    Is Capstick real or fake?

It would be interesting to see the number of African hunts that took place since 1900 because of hunting books or stories written by PH's and others that were clients.

    Is Capstick real or fake?

If you want to get the hair raised on the back of your neck and laugh yourself silly both read Col Patterson writings of the Tsalvo river killer lions. At that time Lions were hunted as vermin so he has some stories very worth reading. I found it in pdf format on the internet. And am certain...

    Is Capstick real or fake?

In another thread a man/fellow PH piped in about being with Capstick in one of his escapades. I've read and heard the same things about Elmer Keith but I doubt any of those people were standing with him when the things he wrote took place. This is kind of like the naysayers about landing on the...

    Progressive press

It is common for shooters and reloaders to spend money on convenience or wants rather then essentials. :) The "shortage" has probably directed funds more to essentials but it always comes around to buying for 'some day' when X will be back to normal. I had no use for a progressive loader but...

Arizona DR shooters wanted General Phoenix area

That charging Cap buffalo was a fun experience for me. I messaged PR&G to see if that shoot was planned again and am awaiting a response. I watched a video of a safari shoot at a PH gathering, probably Africa, where they had two charging lions on opposite sides that came forward on a rope or...

New double rifle maker in the USA

I think that question came up about whether Teddy's 03's had been converted before he got them. I was personally thinking they were 06 revision but might not be remembering correctly. The 03 220 grain RN ammo might have been better then the 06 for Africa.

Arizona DR shooters wanted General Phoenix area

I've not known Ben Avery to hold a big bore or Safari rifle shoot. Phoenix Rod & Gun used to but have to find out if they are thinking of one probably 2022 before it gets hot. Otherwise was considering an informal gathering on public or private land.

    Progressive press

At Dillon one day a salesman was showing presses to a customer and he said when loading with stick powder use a hesitation to allow time for the powder to drop. I imagine that would be a substantial hesitation if using the magnum charge bar with slow burning stick powder. I use RL-25 which is...

I need to toss in a couple things here. I have my 550 mounted on a portable stand with a seat. When getting too great of powder charge variation I realized some primers...

What is the best car you have ever owned?

Trucks are the modern day passenger cars whereas they used to be used for work. In Phoenix trucks have lift kits that could ford the Mississippi river and tires big enough to float them but the owners wouldn't dare to take them off road because they would get dirt on them. So why would any...

    Progressive press

There may be an answer, like a ground wire, but I found several ball powders have way too much static cling in my dillon 550 measure to weigh accurately. As far as accuracy goes, I load all my 223 on the 550 and get sub moa easily out of two AR's. I usually check 10 drops (They must be in load...

No fun would be disallowed. :) At a match I attended I think it was the 9.3x62 that was in question as a 375 H&H equivalent. Unless an actual match is available it will be an impromptu shoot to have fun.

A Sabatti was my buy in for a poor man's DR. There were some sad days post purchase as I assumed anyone building a 500 NE DR would not under build for the cartridge even if the presentation part was lacking. But I have one and it took hunt money to get it. At least a PG hunt and airfare. If I...

Arizona DR shooters wanted General Phoenix area

Arizona DR shooters wanted General Phoenix area

This is an inquiry to see if there are DR/DG rifle owners in the general area of Phoenix AZ, but not limited to, that would be interested in a Safari rifle match or gathering among friends for an informal shoot. Theses are usually 375 H&H equivalent or bigger. Things have went by the wayside...

Sometimes a bullet will have rub marks similar to throat rifling marks when fed from the magazine. In general the things you describe should not be present. What is the dumbest thing you ever did to damage a brand new gun?

Be carful what you loan to whom. I loaned my new truck to a friend to haul his engine block to a shop for repairs. When he returned my truck the front bed rail was bent to the cab and dented below from sliding forward on braking. It seems he didn't bother strapping it down and wasn't worried...

My reloading experience started late 1970's and 1980's. Even then data between loading manuals was sketchy. 7mm broken???!

It sounds like a tight chamber so having it checked by a gunsmith, if you are keeping it, should be next. I once owned a M70 varmint model 243 with a match chamber and a Rem 788 in 243. A load that was fine in the 788 would swell the brass at the base in the M70.

A few years back I believe at a AZ old west shootout reenactment one of the participants was found to have real cartridges in their gun. Seems like someone was shot but don't think killed. 338/30-06 Barrel stamp

I've wondered about such details. I built a wildcat 375 using the 300 Win Mag case so is headstamped as such with a 375 bullet. Win mag brass got hard to find so encountered a deal on a bag of RP 375 H&H brass and tried reforming them. They worked but took more effort to blow out the body taper...

If you ever look at the extractor on a 1903 you will find the gas vent hole there. I believe it was an add on for a vent. I think the bolt had a matching hole in the lug. The 03A3 vent hole is in the left side of the receiver with no hole in the extractor and must be a later revision. The...

The original 1903 Springfield fired the 30-03 cartridge that used a 220 grain bullet. It was short lived in favor of the 1906 revision to a 147gr bt-fmj bullet but was to operate at 50,000 CUP pressure. According to Wiki SAAMI is still 50,000 CUP so modern ammo and load data still conforms no...

Very interesting how far back proofing firearms started. At that point of fired projectiles I would have thought they would have been more concerned with other things. I read that somewhere recently about the 1903 and 03A3 springfield rifles. 1903 rifles I believe S/N# 800k and under are not supposed to be fired due to improper heat treatment of the day. It may also have been tied to the alloy of steel in those actions. I am certain they say not to fire them...
