This is an inquiry to see if there are DR/DG rifle owners in the general area of Phoenix AZ, but not limited to, that would be interested in a Safari rifle match or gathering among friends for an informal shoot. Theses are usually 375 H&H equivalent or bigger.
Things have went by the wayside under Covid-19 which means some ammo might be getting old and shooters rusty. :)

I’ve been known to attend a couple of these friendlies at the Phx Rod and Gun Club

I did one a few years back but my Sabatti was on the disabled list at the time so used my bolt action.
I intend to inquire if they are thinking to do it this year. If not maybe a private gathering of some sort.

Depending on my schedule I might be able to come up for a shoot.

I might be able to make it as well if you allow 9.3x74R. ;)

Nice Sporting Clays ranges in that area as well so could make a shooting trip out of it.

No fun would be disallowed. :)
At a match I attended I think it was the 9.3x62 that was in question as a 375 H&H equivalent.
Unless an actual match is available it will be an impromptu shoot to have fun.

at Ben Avery?

at Ben Avery?
I've not known Ben Avery to hold a big bore or Safari rifle shoot.
Phoenix Rod & Gun used to but have to find out if they are thinking of one probably 2022 before it gets hot.
Otherwise was considering an informal gathering on public or private land.

I know a few places by Florence (south of Phoenix) where we could shoot on BLM land.

I found a couple of web sites that sell African animal targets. It would be nice to have a moving target.

The gent that held the previous safari shoots at Phx R&G had a rig at the last one I attended a few years back. Just a wooden frame that would hold a "charging" buffalo target that was on wheels. Someone behind the shooter would just pull it with a rope.

I've forgot that gent's name now.

That charging Cap buffalo was a fun experience for me.
I messaged PR&G to see if that shoot was planned again and am awaiting a response.

I watched a video of a safari shoot at a PH gathering, probably Africa, where they had two charging lions on opposite sides that came forward on a rope or cable. Two shots required on each made reloading under charge necessary.

Here is the Safari Shoot at PRGC that I have run for about 10 years, we skipped 2020-21 for the usual reason, probably run it again late march early april 2022.

I am the proud owner of a pith helmet from this event a few years back. Look forward to doing this again.

I’m in Vegas and would be interested in traveling to the event. Looks like a fun time!
