Zeiss - Giving in to Antis

They knew their place, as a Zeiss scope a Nikon most certainly is NOT! 'Had one once-total crap in comparison ('get what you pay for) and pulled many off used guns purchased (and similarly "re-gifted" when selling others!) Crap for my purposes. Fine for the weekend warrior sitting in a stand for deer 2 days a year. Gosh, darn do I miss that Buckmasters sig. series. Cameras? Excellent!!! 'Have 3.
The only connection I’m making is that Nikon was afraid being involved or associated with hunting would hurt their more profitable lines so they chose to discontinue riflescopes.

I suspect Zeiss is similarly situated in the market and would likely do the same. I hope it doesn’t get to that point but fear it’s likely In the future.

It's when we become "retarded," <Borat: Translation-Retired> that we all start doing that, and frankly don't give a damn! LOL (i was supposed to be in ET mode-lol early retardedment last Dec. Now gov't. extensions to client project deadlines were granted for 2 more yrs due to chinavirons.) Chin Up (not liking it!) It seems we might have AH trolls now! :p The result of spankings becoming illegal, no doubt.

all jesting aside (scopes were NOT their primary market, so that decision in favor of the cameras is different.) i laughed at the thought of japanese scopes when i was a kid, but many (and guns) are contracted out to Azn countries these days.

I’m not a Zeiss expert but suppose that sporting optics are likely not their top profit center either.

I would not be quick to lump Japan’s manufacturing in with the majority of Asian manufacturers. Japan makes some of the finest quality glass, steel, sewing machines, watches, cars and other machinery anywhere. They are a very conscientious society….

Retardment ain't bad. Though I do hire myself at slave wages to look after this place.

Did get "schooled" by an electrician today - couldn't get the water heater to heat and he discovered a small hidden circuit breaker box that I didn't know existed after living in the house for eight years. :A Bang Head:

I imagine that many probably most Americans that would consider an African Safari are at least +2 sigma people in their chosen fields. You and I are probably on the lower side of average, though, for AH...

'Not saying they aren't, but the finest scopes happen to be made in the EU and USA. I drive Nissan (made in MS, USA) and Toyotas (TX). They will outlast a Ford and gets 2x the gas mileage. Some differences among the $300 and $1,500-$3,000 scopes that I tend to gravitate toward for success in sometimes dangerous, limited, longer shooting and costly hunts. Now, what I object to is that, once upon a time the exchange rate was $2USD=$1Euro. For awhile now, it's been even-Steven. Why haven't prices been cut in half for all good quality EU scopes? ;) I have an old Leupold JPN knock-off from a Co. named L.E.S. I've used it since a teen as a test scope on any new rifles. I don't invest in the good stuff until i know the gun is (or work is completed, so it's) a shooter. It has shot some great groups in all calibers. It's only a 3-9x (not a DG and not a longer range rig) and the bluing is shinier than a new Ferarri. It's ok. It prob. cost the old-timer that bought it in the '70s $59. Japan makes some of the greatest products (on US, out of WWII reparations, schooling, re-building. It was handed to them by politicians!) Point being the best hunting equipment does not hail from there...Their electronics, btw, come from Mexico for the auto industry. The reason the Kia/Hyundai (ok Korean example lol) suggested that you not park certain models inside garages or parking garages, just this week. It seems they're catching fire! :p I'm a lifelong fan of Honda 'cycles and power equipment. Not the autos. Now...Where were we? African Hunting!!!

That is pretty funny. Your photography is at least 6 sigma. Though if truth be known, I gave pure lip service to all that sigma dogma when I was running my business unit.

that's crazy-but interesting. it's like you found the cask of amontilado in your very own house, but in A.C. form lol was it just a circuit for the heater or do you now have capacity for more gizmos (i.e. jitterbug charger, lift-ez chair, etc.) I'm not laughing. I'll buy used in a few years!!!

Two bleeding circuits neither of which have tripped in eight years. Even have a circuit on the main board labeled "WH" which apparently does nothing. That 20 minutes of education ran $200. The amontillado would have been listed on the credit side of the balance sheet.

Clearly my dear old Dad (RIP) had something to do with this installation. Never, ever listed anything significant on the inner panel labels-we still have one with phone numbers written down (likely consulting with electrician-friends at the time!) maybe WTH? L O L Ours have WTF written in invisible ink on 'em, as a result, at both farms!!! That's a fairly interesting "one thing you learned today!" I would've gladly paid $200 to have his boo-boos redone (i think it took 6 yrs worth of weekends at 2 diff locales.) So glad we can just relax and enjoy outdoor pursuits (that includes lots of working the land, but I just love that sort of work.) His work was so special, my insurance rates dropped after all the re-dos! (it was not his forte-he was West Point then Instructor who married into the fam.) Alright, empty amontillado, still rates these days!

By asking "Do You eat meat?" after attempts at being cornered at the holiday dinner table by non- and even some anti-hunting relatives, that has turned the tables in nearly every instance. One veggie fam had to switch back their diet to meat for the sake of their growing children (Dr.'s orders!) That was a big pill to swallow and they've ALL accepted hunting as a way of life at this juncture. Whenever I show a trophy pic to non-hunters, it's always side-by-side with one of us and the natives putting all that meat to use! It just makes good sense, considering the wayward devolvement of the world's inhabitants today...
That makes great sense @C.W. Richter. We should all try to do that.

INTJ. There are worse personalities out there, but varying degree INTJs you find on Safari (and I'd guess the other 4 percent are E's!) I walk the line...lol

Thanks. I can probably write a (concise) little example defense-of-hunting/conservation-lifestyle discussion (as i've had soooo many over the years-with family, friends, corporate co-workers, etc. etc.) but by getting your silver bullets out (Do you eat meat? How does that come to your table? Well let me explain how it comes to our table, and how it benefits all people who utilize public land, game & non-game species, plantlife, waters. Special taxations on hunting/equipment paid entirely by hunters. Wildlife protection patrols-paid for by hunters. In Africa (and most places in the world,) all of the meat (and sometimes even the hide, tusks, etc.) goes directly to the local peoples (sans one or two good meals for the hunters.) It's been awhile since I've had to have the talk with anyone (likely covid related, but I work out of the home office now and all relatives are happy about my son and I carrying on the great sport of my mom's elders. Even the former anti's children just love to come to the house and walk through our little "natural history museum." My work in that regard is done, but I'd be happy to clean up the above into "silver bullets" sometime in the future. Communication is key, and it goes a long way in non-hunters accepting our way of life...Don't get coarse. Get smart. Deep breath. Be nice. We totally accept that most people today do not hunt. And, we are fine with that. Some fam members began buying hunting licenses (not to hunt, but) just to support the purchase of wild lands and protection of all species!

Isn't a purposeful shying away from tasteful post-hunt photos doing the same thing that Zeiss is doing? When the antis win that ground will they just quit or will they seek the next step and try to take away hunting prose or hunting forum sites. Or field photos of live game? Granted, I don't think any equipment manufacturer wasn't to use bloody, dead animals in magazine advertisements but they shouldn't object if a successful hunt ends with a "game and gun" photo without having to blur out the hunter's face, the name brand of the gun, the logo on the scope or the swoosh on the shoe.
The photos will not go away, and they shouldn't as it is part of the whole aura that is why we hunt. What our sport and industry does need to do more of, however, is positive image creation and affirmation of the health side, for animals and users. That isn't easy, nor is it cheap. Part of it is punting the positive aspects of game fare on the table. So too would be punting the healthy outdoors. The anti's are never going to disappear and neither are we hunters. We just have to manage the middle ground and that is the domain of smart people, not emotional zealots. SCI are doing it, and DSC and several new groups and they all need our support, read dollars. Britt Langoria is a good ambassador of this sport, she is doing her pHD on communication, I am surprised she isn't featured more.

My mother didn't have me tested but I wouldn't be surprised to evaluate as INTJ...haha
i think most are Extroverted E, but some are Introverted (to varying degrees. i apparently close the door don't answer the phone and stay in my cave until whatever impt tasks need accomplishment-i've been scolded for working people for every moment of daylight (not paying any attention to breaking for meals) to get some important job done. but, when in a more relaxed place (holiday get together, party, safari camp/deer camp, big concert-i can relax and enjoy getting the toes wet on the E side.) lol funny how people studied these behaviors (to capitalize upon it in the military, big business, institutions, etc.) My L/T GF is INTJ also!

"INTJ is an initialism used in the publications of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to refer to one of the sixteen psychological types. INTJs are one of the rarest of the sixteen psychological types and account for approximately 1-2% of the population. The MBTI assessment was developed from the work of prominent psychiatrist Carl G. Jung in his book Psychological Types. Jung proposed a psychological typology based on the theories of cognitive functions that he developed through his clinical observations. From Jung's work, others developed psychological typologies. Jungian personality assessments include the MBTI instrument, developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cook Briggs, and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, developed by David Keirsey. Keirsey referred to INTJs as Masterminds, one of the four types belonging to the temperament he called the Rationals." Introverted/iNtuitive/Thinking/Judging (my last name translated from German is Judge, although my very funny local Swiss butcher calls me Scharfrichter-executioner/hangman/life judge/knife judge, obv due to my love of hunting and eating meat! He makes a lot of specialty wursts for me. 'Love it!)

If you read up on it more, it will give examples of just how you are with other people...not factoring in substances people are subjected to (alcohol, tobacco, drugs of any kind.) that exaggerates behaviors. But, i post for educational purposes! The sigma SD/bell curve comment got me Thinking-T. LOL It was devised for others to better understand you (mgmt./coworkers/fam) and vice-versa.

Army tested me (and my wife) during staff college (your tax dollars at work). ENTP. Have no idea to accuracy, but she was essentially the opposite and I have no argument with that.

As steve's personal ass't., he has asked that you run the deals through me 1st, via PM. Thx. lol Any takers (givers) of Z8s??
scopes or the latest corvettes-it's all good (although i heard, sadly, the LS7? 427 engine will be discontinued-lol likely for golf cart motors on all 4 wheels!

LOL my (fmr.) wife of 20 yrs ago was bi-Polar opposite! LOL. Too much of a "good thing" perhaps. The suitable replacement for the last 10 was made for me! I think what you describe (the pairing) is pretty common. I can only thank her in part for the two great kids we raised (both dr.'s now) as well as understanding my passion for hunting. I put some extra $ into TP stocks during covid, so those are valuable assets, too! When i see my test result acronym, it makes me think of all the toxic waste sites i've cleaned up for NJ. Ok to work there. Just get out before dark and don't live there! LOL
