Zeiss - Giving in to Antis

Army tested me (and my wife) during staff college (your tax dollars at work). ENTP. Have no idea to accuracy, but she was essentially the opposite and I have no argument with that.
The Army tested me when I was being considered for a Master Trainer slot at an NCO academy. The test said I am an ISTJ. Don't remember what it stands for but the Army said I had "all the qualifications for leadership positions. I was a perfect candidate." Must have been something to it, they wanted to send me to the Sergeants Major Academy, but I couldn't take six months off work. My big military mistake.

I an a IN - I don't give a darn!
What I am is a Lead, Follow, or Get Out of My Way farm boy, US Marine (retired duty status), and all around good guy.

Assuming it's legit, there could be collateral damage to their other lines. I used to buy a lot of hunting, shooting, fishing and other sports products from Dick's Sporting Goods. Since they went woke on black guns, I haven't been in to any of their stores, shopped online nor purchased anything they sell.
I certainly agree with your assessment of Dick’s and as I previously noted - Yeti. However, in this case, I suspect the hunting/shooting division represents more of collateral damage risk to the overall enterprise than any lost US hunting customers. I obviously don’t have a division/ sector breakdown of their revenue stream, but suspect much is European based with even less tolerance for us than the US as a whole.

They are not a publicly traded corporation, only one subsidiary.

Carl Zeiss AG is the holding of all subsidiaries within Zeiss Group, of which Carl Zeiss Meditec AG is the only one that is traded at the stock market. Carl Zeiss AG is owned by the foundation Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung.

Yes, but I believe they hid that behind their other store, Field & Stream! Good tactic, though. I pass by their very first 1950s retro store all the time (Dick's.) It's now in the hood, in NY!

I'd expect large, successful optics companies to simply re-brand their scopes with a name (and entity-"ScopeZ, Gmbh") other than Zeiss before bailing on the market entirely. "ZeeBestTV 5-50x-56, or Zeitgeist 1-4 AR" <beautiful stag in photo with hunter looking through binos; scope on the slinged wood/blued bolt gun-the Killing is not the primary motivating factor of why most of us hunt> But, on the other hand, industry may be simultaneously avoiding the obvious anti/MSM pressure while trying to educate people that don't have the emotional capital to understand how their behaviors (posting bloody animal pics publicly with tired, old non-sequitur statements that have negative impacts in the intra- and intercontinental diplomacy department.) We are (sometimes unfortunately) all in this world together, so some minor, logical concessions must be made (in someone else's advertising campaign-not yours) to continue churning out the product (in this case, which happens to be damn good). Such business decisions are made irrespective of how some people Feel about it. You can buy Tasco-and get what you pay for! (For most knock-off .223 ARs, that's just fine.)

Here's Zeiss' description of their focus. My interpretation is that consumer products a pretty small potatoes vs. the other product lines:

ZEISS develops, produces and distributes highly innovative solutions for industrial metrology and quality assurance, microscopy solutions for the life sciences and materials research, as well as medical technology solutions for diagnostics and treatment in ophthalmology and microsurgery. The name ZEISS is also synonymous with the world's leading lithography optics which are used by the chip industry to manufacture semiconductor components. There is global demand for trendsetting ZEISS brand products such as eyeglass lenses, camera lenses and binoculars. ZEISS consists of four segments: Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Quality & Research, Medical Technology and Consumer Markets.

My eye doc uses Zeiss for his cataract surgeries. I could buy a LOT of their top end scopes for the cost of that unit.

Try a Rem 760 or 7600 w/ the 18.5" short bbl (and your fav 1-5x scope lol.) They reload at the shot w/o taking your eyes off the sight. We shoot running game all the time, sans the dogs. Great for recovery when someone makes a bad shot! Sitting in stands on big plantation/farm properties along the Savannah (some nicely decorated with Spanish moss). Saw the biggest boar ever bagged in the wild. Could've increased the deer population by bagging 20 of 'em (but it wasn't allowed. 10 yrs ago.) 'Saw white and gray ones that looked like wolves. Be nice to the officials at OR Tambo airport (they love throwing their weight around if any 'tudes are detected.) I'm sure the industry will survive through July...lol Good luck!
This is for you bud. Lol

ok that's the old 740 series semi. nice! what cal?
we have to use the 760 or 7600 here as semis aren't legal for deer/bear, but the pumps autoload when you pull the trigger, if broken in! exactly the same but what you show is rarer! in NY it's legal, oddly. lol Plenty there.

Yesterday a memo was leaked by Zeiss employees and pro staff. Apparently they have been headed in this direction for a a while now.

To me this is just another example of the slow but inevitable erosion of hunting.
Thoughts?

Simple solution...

Don't buy Zeiss products.

The fact is Zeiss was never in some of those markets. Their share of scope sales has been eroding for years. The Conquest was their last ditch effort to remain relevant in the US scope market. You have to pick your battles and they have!

Back in 1996, I participated in a seminar at the SAKO factory, where Rudiger Klotz of Wild &Hund magazine told me that we had very good hunting magazines in Spain, but.....we published too many photos of dead animals.

So, nothing new for us in Europe.

Slippery slope, perhaps, but I read recently of changes in mgmt at Swarovski, away from family was it? They have a whole 'nother line of nothing-to-do with shooting sports or hunting products that sell very well. If it hasn't happened already, the Land Roverish decision-making has already begun there, too.
I was once a sponsored shooter for Kahles. I asked when Swarovski would come out with a tactical scope. I felt Swarovski has some of the best glass (just a small add Hensoldt is the best glass to my eye). I was told Swarovski will never do it. It ties back to the war and I will not get into many details. I will say I understood the answer and respect their stance.

We live in a different environment, when I was in high school we brought rifle to school and hunted afterwards with our teachers. Try that now...Opinions are just that Opinions if you want change and reverse of the trends we are in now? The question you have to as yourself, when was the last time you introduced a new person to hunting or shooting? I'm blessed in the fact we have a little land and I have good sons with good friends. Their friends get intrested in hunting because they see how exciting or boys get. Every chance we get to take their friends we do. In all the deer take I have not shot one, I have had more enjoyment and excitement watching these little guys taking them than myself. If we don't do our part and introduce new blood... in 20 years imagine what it's going to look like. I view this like voting...if you did not vote you can't bitch. Same goes here if you are not trying to get new people involved, well in 20 years remember this conversation.
