What's the next cartridge your looking to add to your collection and what role will it fill?

I am also fairly well covered from 30 to 45 caliber stuff. I was thinking about a quarter bore in 257 Roberts, however a 7x61 Sharpe and Hart showed up on my radar this week and now I’m torn.

Jay, I know the Rem 760 well and it was my first deer rifle, Remington 760 Gamemaster in .30-06 purchased New in 1981 for $219 in KMart. As a lefty - the pump action appealed to me and cycles very fast - gave me some needed follow up shots that a Bolt action would Not have. Accurate “enough” and 1 1/2” @ 100 yrds for 3 shot groups. I recently purchased another 760 GameMaster in .308 - it was mint used condition and worth (to Me) every penny of the $700 I paid....some of these are now considered collectors and have a following, those in excellent condition will be in the $900 - $2000 range depending on caliber - .30-06 were the most popular and cost less then .308. Costing even more are .243, .223, as fewer were made. The .35 Remingtons are easier to find then .35 Whelen - and those .35 Whelen’s seem to cost the most. The newer version 7600s might be found for a little less. I spoke to a gunsmith about quality difference between the two and he felt there was No difference. I’ve taken many deer, 2 bear, one Elk with mine and for shots under 200 yrds I think they are good. For shots under 100 yds., or in thick woods, or a quick “follow up” shot - they are Great !!
Their only down side is a sloppy trigger but that can be cleaned up by a Gunsmith and a couple specialize in this - you can send the trigger assemble out and get them greatly improved....I did that and was pleased.

Well I have to wait for a Sharpes and Hart. I didn’t pull the trigger fast enough on it so it sold to someone else. It was built on a push feed Weatherby. I think I can find a good donor commercial Mauser CRF that I like better to build on anyway.

This is an interesting question. I really don't have any gaps from .22 through .30 calibers and not much between .30 and 9.3. My next rifle should really be a .375 H&H so I can go for dangerous game where the 9.3x62 is not accepted.

That said, I know if something interesting appears and it is just a bit out of the norm, I'll jump on it. How else do you explain having a .256 Newton in my collection other than it came from P. O. Ackley's workshops!

I have a Glock 29 in 10mm, it is the compact version with the 6 round magazine. I love it but wanted a higher capacity magazine so I put a Glock 20 15 round magazin and an X-grip in it and now have a wonderful back country gun for when I am in Grizzly country.
I put it in a Gunfighters Inc Kenai chest holder and it is the cats meow!

I'm thinking G20 myself. Just curious. why did you do the 29 instead of the 20?

I have a G20 and really like it, even killed a couple of deer with it but if I was to buy another 10mm Glock it would be the model that is red dot ready. Damned aging eyes.

Did you change out the factory barrel? I have read that hard cast so not have good accuracy in factory. I have one myself but have not tried out hard cast.

The stock is completed and being bedded now, barrel blank is machined and fitted to action. We are waiting for finishing work to be completed. I'm not sure about the scope yet.

I just finished a Winchester Model 70 300 WSM with a custom walnut stock for plains game/deer.

I also have a Winchester Model 70 pre-war cloverleaf 375 H&H in process with a custom walnut stock for dangerous game, moose, brown bear, large plains game, etc.

Yes, we seem to have the same thoughts. I agree that the ultimate 416 Rigby should be a Rigby rifle. I might consider “settling” for a Hartmann & Weiss or even a nice Dakota. Still thinking it over. Not sure how many more African safaris I will do after this year’s trip to Tanzania if I get my lion?!? We shall see! Also hope to get a roan, topi, Thomson gazelle and Robert’s gazelle. Might not get them all?! I’ve been sifting through rhino opportunists as well but haven’t booked yet.

My biggest issue is I wouldn't know what to look for, or be able to tell a good one from a bad one. Are they all the same? Is there a preferred year or model - does it even matter if all it's going to do is sit in a gun safe?

Good luck with the lion, I just got one in Zambia. Got a roan and rhino in Namibia last year; could have gotten a few more roan in Zim last month but they weren't on quota. Got a gazelle in Tanzania in 2018.

I'm asking myself that same question - how many more times will I be able to make the trek?

After the leopard, my Big Five is complete. Talked with the PH about doing end of season elephant hunts - have to find something to shoot with the 500 when it gets here.

I'll be living in Oz so it will be used for Water Buffalo and maybe scrub bulls.

Forget the horrible little 338WM mate.
Get a 35 Whelen. It will do everything the 338 will then some.
A 225gn Woodleigh or accubond at 2,900fps will reach way way out and thump the living be jeezes out of game.
The 250s at 2,700fps will hit even harder
Or you can use a 275gn Woodleigh or 280gn A Frame to almost 2,600fps for some serious hurt.

For up close and personal the 310gn Woodleigh RNSP or solid at 2,400fps should give you some serious penetration and power.

As you can see I do like the Whelen.
Plus you can load it with pistol bullets so the kids cam pink with daddy's big gun.
Can't do that with a 338.

I had a 7600 in 'O6 and a 7400 in .243. Sold both of them to finance other purchases. Dad had a 760 in '06 also.

Definitely faster than the Whelen BUT a lot more expensive to run and I want to walk around the bush with my rifle, not carry it around in a golf buggy because it's to heavy.
I shot a 300-378 on Saturday. Great round but noisy as all get out and recoil is getting up there. Not my cup of tea, to specialised.

I’m definitely no rifle expert so I’m not qualified to know all the differences in the Rigby offerings. I’ve heard they offer a really nice fairly standard rifle called the Big Game. From there, they offer bespoke rifles that are built to your specifications and measurements. Guys like @rookhawk and @Red Leg are better qualified and informed on rifles than I will ever be. I know quite a bit about different places to hunt but less about fine firearms.

I have taken Grant’s gazelle but not Thomson’s or Robert’s. I’ve taken lesser kudu, gerenuk, fringe-eared oryx and Cookson hartebeest, like you, but not the other two gazelles.

If you want any info on Botswana elephant, let me know.
