Politics

@Brent in Az , I could not disagree with you more: The days of civility and playing Mr. Nice guy ended when Trump took office. Trump became the same sort of candidate as Hillary, lots of people loved them, but they both had huge negatives with lots of people hating them. People didn't vote for Biden in 2020, they voted against Trump. If Trump was a corporate executive of a publicly traded company or a high ranking officer in the US military, he would have been fired or court marshalled for his behavior (and yet, I still voted for him).

Also, mean and nasty is dividing this country. It needs to stop. The Dems are not the enemy. China, Russia, N. Korea and Iran are.

So the Republicans (my party) did the mean and nasty for the last four years and voters, particularly women voters and young voters went for Biden. Better change the delivery...........not the message, just the delivery. Also, need a new messenger, unless Trump tries for a Grover Cleveland second term.
I don't agree. Granted, Trump needs polishing in certain areas, but his popularity was gained by his "take no shit" attitude, against the media and the establishment.
Are we to just sit back, and let the Democrats just steamroll us at every turn, while the GOP sits in the background twiddling their thumbs?

There are 2 reasons why Trump lost this election.

1.) The medias nonstop 24/7 attacks on Trump, and the negative propaganda designed to brainwash the low information voter

2.) The Coronavirus, and the media's nonstop 24/7 attacks on Trump, as if he unleashed the Virus all by himself on purpose.

If it wasn't for that, none of us would be having this conversation.

Despite Trumps occasional crude behavior, I like an ass kicker, and name taker. I understand that doesn't resonate with everyone.

If we had more ass kickers in the GOP, maybe the Democrats wouldn't get away with everything that they do.?

I may not be as glib as some, but I come from a line of no nonsense, hardworking people, that don't fall for lines of b.s from politicians, or the media lapdogs.

Unfortunately, the oversensitive brainwashed snowflakes ,that vote with emotion, instead of common sense, won the day for Joe Biden. They just voted the proverbial Fox into the henhouse.

What will the Democrats have in store for 2024, to retain control?

Political Barbarism, has worked for the Dems.

I do agree that the GOP needs to step up, but hopefully in a way that doesn’t alienate independent voters. The problem is that mainstream media is fully against the Republican Party.

Honestly they just need to get smarter. Beaten by a loophole in Georgia, seriously? They don’t seem to see things coming and have no contingency plans in place. If I led business like they lead our party, I would have had a very different career. How can they be surprised by Obama’s use of social media, a vote harvesting loophole in GA, failure to follow court ordered procedures in PA? The party needs a complete overhaul. They appear to have no strategic capability, no scenario or contingency planning, and are continually in defensive/reactionary mode. It’s embarrassing.

Let's not be Doomers. This is not just another 4 year election. Nothing can Stop what is coming. The trap was set, and has been sprung.
Sometimes you cannot tell people the truth.
You must show them.
Enjoy the Show!

@Red Leg I don't agree with you re the "generational damage" the Dems will do, or your comments regards mail in voting. Having said that though, I want to say that I really appreciate your considered and articulate views and commentary. If you would like to expand on your thoughts concerning mail in voting I would be interested in reading them.
So a few of things.

If the Democrats take both houses they will be able to enact legislation without the need for compromise. Several areas concern me. The first is energy independence. For fifty years we have had an obsessive focus on the Middle East due to our economic dependence on Arab oil. That has dragged us into a series of regional adventures that also acted as an accelerant for the anti-western elements in those societies who have played out their passions as terrorists. We are net energy exporters now due to fracking. Wind power, solar, nuclear plays a tiny role in that independence. The Democrat Party seems hell bent on reversing that independence. It won't happen if the Republican Party retains the senate.

The Trump tax cuts and corporate tax cuts specifically. Until this administration, we had a corporate investment environment that was genuinely hostile when compared to other nations of the developed world. My own former corporation (35 billion in sales annually) spent for too much of our profit in overseas minority partnerships and through stock by-back strategies because it simply made no sense to invest that money in US-based growth. That has reversed dramatically over the last 36 months bringing hundreds of thousands of real jobs back to this country (along with those jobs' tax generation). It will reverse again, if Biden's regressive corporate tax plan is enacted.

Similarly, the pairing back of the Obama era regulation environment spurred all sorts of development that again makes no economic sense if new production investment ids hamstrung by new regressive regulations.

The judiciary remains a plumb for both parties and the trajectory of our republic. Lose the Senate, and the Democrats can fill every federal vacancy with the most radical possible jurists and Republicans will be able to do nothing to stop it.

Biden promised as recently as last night to "end systemic racism." What we will see is open borders - and not just for hard working Mexicans, but also a wave of refugees from the Middle East. Our children and grandchildren will be brainwashed with revisionist historical nonsense as exemplified by the 1619 project. We will live in a hiring, promotion, education and recognition environment that will make affirmative action look benign.

So yes, I think Democrat majorities in both houses can do serious generational damage to the economy and fundamental institutions that make our nation so special.

With respect to mail-in voting, I should note my criticisms have nothing to do with absentee voting. All states have well established procedures to handle them effectively with little chance of fraud. Mailing ballots to very eligible voter in a state, however, is a very different thing.

First of all, it creates a wedge of ballots that were mailed by mistake due to voter role errors. More damaging is ballot harvesting. In many large urban centers, community organizers are tasked with get out the vote efforts. That can be quite successful in normal times. With mail-in ballots, the organizer merely has to go around his "community" collecting them. He can fill them out as necessary and then get signatures or simply sign them himself. Of course he is his own walking witness as well. I have no doubt this was exploited to the full in large Democrat controlled urban areas where huge number of Biden votes eventually swung the election in at least three states.

Covid made the technique possible and it is unlikely to go away with this administration or with the arrival of a vaccine.

Thanks for your reply... OK, so this is one of those posts I am going to have to consider at length...
Regards 'ballot harvesting', don't mail in ballets simply get mailed in? Like into the mailbox?

Ballot Harvesting allows people to walk up to doors and pickup ballots, and turn them in. But this breaks any chain of custody, and allows these individuals, who are not vetted, to be bad actors.

Well for starters it’s not an effective process when the number one Google search following final presidential debate was “how do I change my vote”. I doubt it was so they could vote for Biden according to polling following the debate. How many more people regretted the vote because they changed their opinion after voting by mail? Also, there have been more fraudulent claims against absentee ballots than voting in person. I won’t speak for Red Leg, but my view of “general damage” would be the current news cycle. Americans don’t hold the same faith in the validity of our elections in outsized proportions this year. Why? By the evidence I have, the only thing that changed in the voting process was adding general mail-in voting.

I also failed to see the reason for voting by mail due to COVID. If I understand the mainstream media, they support BLM/ANTIFA protests/riots. Voting in person or going to church, according to them, risks lives. The CDC conveniently announces voting in person should be encouraged on Election Day, but prior was not promoted.
With regards mail in voting; I totally agree with you. But the paranoia surrounding COVID and general laziness influence the acceptance of this method. I do banking on-line, which for me is way more important than the vote. Perhaps if nothing else universally satisfying comes from this election, a modern method of online voting can be created.

Between the constitution the courts systems, and 14th amendment the implementation of that system was legal--that statement is my problem--only the state legislatures can LEGALLY change state voting procedure. Late balloting, etc. was not changed in the only way the constitution mandates. You made the above statement, which is not legal or factual--you are complicit in letting this happen, that is all.
I have gotten carried away with anger...I apologize to Red Leg...

Online voting will never happen. For four years we heard the Russians influenced an election through memes on Facebook, for the Dems to say let's vote online would be to admit Russian isn't meddling.

Republicans won't do it, because they know better. Hard to do a physical audit.

At somepoint there will be a block chain solution but I think we are two maybe three election cycles from that.

Colorado had a election back in 2006 that was a complete mess. In 2013 or around there they came up with their version of mail in ballots, the way they do it is the right way to do it.

You can mail or drop your ballot off at a ballot box that is under 24/7 surveillance. The ballots are collected by two people, a Democrat and a Republican and then delivered to the county clerk's office.

On the ones that are mailed they have to be in the clerk's office by 7pm on election day, any later and they don't count.

There is a lot more involved in the process but that is the basic process.

Tthe hodgepodge methods that other states came up with this year is enough to drive a person to drink.

Now I believe that I'll get a stiff one now

As much as American politics is important for the world at large and warrants dialogue to maintain awareness of everything about the nuances of truth and justice (as well as it is interesting to follow), it has no place in this Forum (nor does any countries' politics save that which has a direct bearing on African or other international hunting destinations travel, safety or planning logistics particulars - for example, emerging or new policies on firearms or trophies transport, CITES, etc.).

As a First Principal, please note the mission statement of the Forum: "World's most popular community & resource for hunting in Africa."

Moderator, why are you allowing this Forum thread to continue?!

Thank you for your opinion. It is valued here.

Now since you don't think this thread needs to continue please feel free to enjoy the rest of the forum at your leisure.

P.S.

There is also a humor thread here on AH. Hope that doesn't offend you too deeply, this being a hunting forum and all. And, I'm sure that if you point it out to them, the moderators will agree that humor has no place here.

Might want to add the Cigar thread to the list.. . it's ruffled a few feathers.

If I'm not interested in a thread, I don't read it.

American politics is vitally important on this forum. After all, one of the lefty Commucrats main points is firearm restriction and/or confiscation. I'd say that has a direct bearing on our African hunting.

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
