I don't remember how many clicks it was exactly but it was a bunch. If memory serves me correct it was like 2 1/2 to 3 complete turns on my scope. It was by far the longest shot I've ever taken and I highly doubt I will ever shoot that far again as I am not a distance guy. I think he set me up to make the shot to show me it is possible if you know what your doing. I however do not know what I'm doing when it comes to long range shooting. It was pretty fun though.

I know my .30/06 is over one full circle at 500 yards, so I'm sure yours was pushing three.

I've not a long distance shooter, but would like to get into it at some point, even at "short" 500-700 yard ranges. Now I'm not talking about hunting at that range, but just punching paper. It is such a confidence booster! ring the bell a few times at that range and 200 yards suddenly looks really close! And just like shooting a big bore does shooting at range shows you any imperfections in your technique.

Example:

My scope on my .30/06 was mounted slightly crooked and I didn't know it. this caused me to mount the gun on my shoulder at an angle to compensate. At 100 yards no issue, at 500 yards it meant pulled shots and misses. fixed the scope and started ringing the target consistently.

243 at 930yds hmmmmm! How many miles did he have to aim above the target?
505 Gibbs using the Barnes 505gr TSXfb at 2300fps will drop 60' at 100yds but still have enough energy to kill you according to the RCBS Load V3 program
Sorry I meant 1000yds. Gotta stop typing at 1:30 in the morning!

So.. Im planning to take the step up over .500 cal now. Just in the process of divesting myself of my trg for this purpose.

Anyone here that has handled a 550 magnum? :)
The caliber really interests me but there doesn't seem to be all that many around so any input is appreciated!

The gun will be built on a granite mountains LH action if that makes a difference :)

You had me at LH action.... :)

Well, I have researched the Import rules and it looks like it is doable from that pov.
Also might have found a buyer for my trg so the cash should be settled unless the buyer changes his mind.

And yes it will be a left hand rifle Royal27 ;) You are not the only one shooting the only correct way!

No one that has any opinions on the 550 mag as a caliber?

There is a 585 nyati LH on gunbroker you should look at.

There is a 585 nyati LH bolt gun on gunbroker

Wouldn't mind a 585 nyati but as I am located in Sweden it is close to impossible to buy anything on gunbroker for me. And the cost to buy that 585 with all the paperwork and freight would be very close to having a new rifle built with a wood stock.
Would have to restock that 585 asap anyways as I am allergic to plastic stocks.

But thanks for the heads up :)
Something for you royal? :)

Unfortunately sometimes you have to look at need vs. want. And right now I need a .300 wsm much more than a Nyati! ;)

In all seriousness, unless I find an incredible offer that I can't refuse I won't be buying an additional big Bore for a while. I will just have to make due with my Lott!

Come join the dark side Royal! Just load your lott with a 300gr bullet and you can use it instead of a 300wsm!

That would be ansolutly awesome matt!
Would really appreciate any input as the info is there but very scarce :)

No way I'm shooting my 500 Jeffery prone. I'll shoot it standing, sitting or kneeling but not prone. I broke my collar bone as a young kid just horsing around, no fun at all.

im about 90% sure you would brake your collar bone if you shot a 500 Jeffery prone... even the 505 Gibbs would run a pretty high risk of breaking something.

Believe you are right, but don't know he has taken possession yet...

I do have some 350 grain bullets for it..... :)

Looking for a light rifle for the mountains, so I'm probably going to do my first ever plastic gun and get a Tikka T3 Lite.

Great gun. Got one in 270wsm

I've thought about the .270 too. If I was going to do a little more sheep and little less Africa I think I'd do it.

It's a plains game killing machine. We killed a waterbuck (here in Texas) with it and it absolutely dropped him in his tracks. Killed more deer and large pigs with it than I could ever count. It's my dads gun but i shoot it a lot.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
