Big Bore Addiction Group

Unfortunately sometimes you have to look at need vs. want. And right now I need a .300 wsm much more than a Nyati! ;)

In all seriousness, unless I find an incredible offer that I can't refuse I won't be buying an additional big Bore for a while. I will just have to make due with my Lott!
Seems like if you have to "make due" with one truly big bore, the 458 Lott might be just about at good as it gets in a bolt gun! Especially if you also have a 375.

Royal you do need a good long range gun and a good light weight mountain gun. Might as well get both in one package and get to know, love it, and shoot it well! Then go get those mountain species while your still young!

Now, I'm gonna scamper out of here for a bit before Matt shows up to pound me for the blasphemy of thinking you can get by with "only" a 458 Lott!

And of course before he come and scolds us all for discussing something under .375!

too much small bore talk going on here. :E Nono:

if i want to shoot something far away i load my 416 with 300gr TSX at 2700fps.

actually, im going to agree with you. if you could only have a single large bore gun then the 458 Lott is a pretty good choice! the Lott is a very versatile gun that will handle both long and close shots on DG and PG. it can be loaded down to 2150 fps with a 500gr bullet for those times to want less recoil (i actually believe this is more practical then 2300 fps). for PG id load it with 300gr bullet at 2700-2800 fps and the recoil should be fairly mild with decent down range performance.

My 375 is supposed to show up tomorrow. :A Banana: :E Celebrate::E Dancing:Hopefully it does and I will post pics of it ASAP. Now on to the next one. I'm thinking of getting the same CZ rifle in 458 Lott as Matt suggested the caliber but........ I found out a Sabatti dealer just opened up here so I went to take a look. I immediately fell in love with a 400/450 double. I never believed in love at first sight until I saw this gun. Sooooo, for a double, it is very reasonibly priced at around 6k. That's about 3x what I want to spend on a rifle but I may just save my pennies to buy it. The other problem that pops up is that is almost half a leopard hunt excluding taxidermy and airfare. I reaaaally want a leopard. I'm so confused :A Bang Head:

congrats on the 375! make sure to post lots of pictures and a range report here.

as for the Sabatti double rifle... DONT DO IT!

been there, done that, got the headache! save your pennies a little longer and buy a nice new Merkel or Chapuis double and you will be grateful you took my advice.

Matt I really think I will keep saving for my leopard hunt anyway. I'd rather a leopard than a new gun. The CZ is appealing because it's inexpensive.

nothing wrong with getting a double rifle, just avoid cheap and/or used guns. buy a new double with a warranty from a reputable manufacturer.

i hope to some day pick up a Heym in 450 NE 3.25".

Ok so I was walking down the street when I was approached by this little fella. I could tell she needed a home and some one to love and care for her. Being the compassionate soul I am I felt obligated to rescue her.

My CZ showed up:A Yell:

Love it....

Gun is in the nice warm house and the dog is locked out in the cold, staring inside at the gun! :E Cold:

If my wife finds out about it I may be the one outside in the cold.

There are millions of women everywhere but certain rifles are not so easy to replace sometimes.

Very nice, congratulations!
Now how are you supposed to put the bolt back on the right side of the gun?!

Lol no worries, it's the non communist model so the bolt is on the proper side. ;)

congratulations, you now have yerself a new bouncing baby DG rifle! give it lots of love and hunting experience and it will grow up to be a wise strong DG rifle. those CZ's can be a bit stubborn but with proper care and maybe some gunsmithing they usually turn out to be fine rifles.

Thanks Matt. I absolutely love the feel of this rifle. Not that I still don't love my 416 ruger but..... This is a much much better gun. I can't wait to shoot it and see how she runs. It sux I had to come to work today. I wanted to stay home and give it a good cleaning. It has some packing grease on it and such. What load would you suggest starting out with? I will start with some factory loads because I have to order dies and such.

oh yea for you big bore fans out there, I got a package from Australia today!

the mold is a 600gr .585" bullet ill use for light loads in my 585 HE. the book has load data for cartridges you wont see in any other book! its even got load data for the 600 NE and the 700 NE.

as you can see the book had a rough trip, I was a bit disappointed with the packaging. but Its not like I can buy it here in the USA so im happy just to have it.

both the book and the mold came from http://www.castbulletengineering.com.au/

the guy i talked to (maybe the owner?) was very knowledgeable about large bore guns. he owns a 577 T-rex and uses his cast bullets for it. if you do a search for "woodleigh" on his sight, you will find the book.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
