I don't know what it is about shooting pigs with rediculously large things that is so fun but it is. I love to watch them vaporize like shooting prairie dogs with a 300wm. Maybe it's because they cause me a couple thousand dollars in crop damage a year or maybe I'm just a little off but it's loads o fun.
The beauty of hunting at my place is it can be as up close and personal or as far and precise you want it to be.
Don't worry Gizmo,
Matt will be along shortly to tell us what the drop is on a .505 Gibbs with a 500 grain tsx at 1000 yards.
The only thing you may have done wrong was mention a .243, at any distance!
243 at 930yds hmmmmm! How many miles did he have to aim above the target?Don't worry Gizmo,

I don't remember how many clicks it was exactly but it was a bunch. If memory serves me correct it was like 2 1/2 to 3 complete turns on my scope. It was by far the longest shot I've ever taken and I highly doubt I will ever shoot that far again as I am not a distance guy. I think he set me up to make the shot to show me it is possible if you know what your doing. I however do not know what I'm doing when it comes to long range shooting. It was pretty fun though.243 at 930yds hmmmmm! How many miles did he have to aim above the target?
505 Gibbs using the Barnes 505gr TSXfb at 2300fps will drop 60' at 100yds but still have enough energy to kill you according to the RCBS Load V3 program
I've had a few clients that were competitive distance shooters. One shot a turkey at 1208 yards and a hog at a little over 800. It was pretty impressive to watch. Both were 1 shot clean kills. Another set up on the porch and was shooting water bottles at over a 1000 yards. He walked me through it and I was able to actually hit at 854 meters with a tricked out 243 that I have. I proally couldn't do it again unless I had someone dope the wind, figure the ballistics, and set the turret for me but it was pretty cool. I managed to hit it on the 3rd shot but the first two were pretty dang close too. I am NOT a long range shooter by any means but it was neat to have someone walk me through it and manage to get even me to hit at those ranges. Sorry Matt, I got us a little off topic.
Yeah, I'm thinking that my .375 H&H is my limit for prone. It isn't bad, but I do imagine that a .416 might be just a little bit snappy!!!
