.458 Mannlicher Shonauer

Thank you Withold, not all credit can come to me..Johan Greyling( my mentor) assisted as well. I think if a person is taking his time and figure out different options, there will be a good solution at the end of his contemplating process...It is good to look at solutions and perspectives other designers have, but on the end you have an idea of what you want that gives the break through...I believe this is maybe the best route to go now. Will keep you members up to date...

The next step will be the construction of the ghost ring. I discussed construction options with Von Gruff ( member on forum) in this regard and will make use of his suggestions. This is what makes a building project worthwhile to do, input from members on a forum is really valuable.(y)

Why not an original three foot claw mount.
Maybe expensive and a bit high but classic.

Peter, good day to you. Peter, it is just too expensive for me in South Africa to fit this type of scope system. Every component need to be purchase from countries abroad, with our weak Rand currency it just is too expensive.

I need to design a ghost ring aperture sight that can be fit to any Mannlicher Schoenauer by substituting the flag safety and fit a ghost ring aperture sight like the one I am designing currently. I think the Lyman /Rigby ghost ring rear /cocking piece fit ghost rings are the only ghost ring /peep sight you get for the split bridge currently...with this design it will be effortless to fit a adjustable ghost ring sight without butchering the Mannlicher Schoenauer ...I am currently working on a fully adjustable ghost ring sight to fit in the flag safety housing...will keep you up to date with progress made...

It's not my rifle.I tried to find a good picture of the clawmount but couldn't find one.
I would like to have one,a friend who is a hobby gundealer have three in his shop.
One 9,5x57 and two smaller caliber but we can only have max six hunting weapons here
and I like the ones I have and don't like to sell any.
Super nice and interesting rifles!

Update:
I need to shoot the .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer on Saturday and decided to complete a ghost ring that is simple but functional to complete. Johan Greyling assisted me in constructing this ghost ring. I will when having more time construct a ghost ring with finer adjustable threads and different aperture diameters. Although this is a simple design it is accurate and functional for the time being . I will shoot the .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer on Saturday to see how accurate it is out to 8o meters. Here are photos of making this ghost ring:

Ready to shoot on Saturday:

Need to drill/tap to secure in the dove tail slot. Blue it and ready to use..easy, simple and functional...

Thank you Peter
It really is nice to shoot this rifle with the ghost ring , I shot a small grouping in the tunnel today, will take it tomorrow to the range....I really like this ghost ring , it is real accurate...I am contemplating color casing the firing pin nut as well, the same color as the ghost ring..

It is fun to realize good ideas!:)

Members, I am back from the range. I asked family members and other hunters on the range to shoot the .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer today to see how they experience the ghost ring...I had excellent feedback from every one who shot the rifle. All agree the only change to the set up is to substitute the front sight bead with another 2.5 mm diameter ivory front sight bead that is larger than the current front sight bead.
The sight picture through the ghost ring is wide and a lot of detail can be seen, so the target is clear and quite visible.(y) I will upload videos about the shoot...

I am still working on the technique to cycle the spoon type bolt as fast as possible..with frequent shooting I will be able to do it right..

I shared it now, let me know if you can access it now.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
