.458 Mannlicher Shonauer

HWL you have a beautiful Mannlicher Schoenauer ...I really would be afraid to hunt with it since I always will think about the possibility of damaging the beautiful engraving on your rifle...(y)
 
The vid above was obviously shot with a very light load. Recoil was about like a .308!
 
Do not worry..... the rifle has seen Africa (in the 60's) two times without damages of engraving .... in the hands of a lady!!!

Then the rifle spent about 50 years in a safe.....

Then I bought it,..... and she kissed me!!!

Next, we should have a "Mannlicher-Schoenauer hunt, iron sights only"

HWL, it seems like a plan, I would like you to spend some time on my .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer going through it and set the rotary magazine at the correct strenght..please. I will see if we can hunt two giraffe bulls in the future, the meat can be sold and use ..if we hunt two Buffalo bulls the meat are not allowed to be remove from the property although the price on the Buffaloes are excellent..it definitely will be a hunt in the near future..(y)(y)(y)

Ses, no sir, that load was exactly the same as the loads shot by all of us brothers..that girl started hunting at five years of age, she has her own .375 H&H Magnum when she hunts with her father...she can shoot a big bore rifle ..caliber does not matter to her, she has a brilliant technique shooting these heavy recoil rifles...(y)(y)(y)

I know another young girl, 22 years of age who loved to shoot a 404 Jeffery, she shot my 404 Jeffery , 400 gn at 2150 f/s as if it is a .243 she was shooting, and she shot it accurate...also a great technique when shooting the 404 Jeffery...big bore shooting is technique only...noting else ...practice makes perfect..:A Banana::A Banana:

Meeting Mannlicher-Schoenauer enthusiasts, admireing their rifles, hunting with iron sights, sitting around the camp fire and telling unbelievable storys.....

Well OK, but I have shot enough big bore stuff myself, .458 included and I know how much it kicks, so just saying I find it hard to believe seeing the very light recoil of that load, that it is anywhere near full bore .458 Mag. Here is a big stout lad shooting a Ruger 458 and it rocks him lots more than in the vid above.

Ses, looking at this guy the first thing I notice is that he has never shoot a big bore rifle in his life, he is very much afraid and started flinching long before he try to pull the trigger. He has a horrible stance , stands upright, he is doing everything wrong..look again at the video of the young lady..notice how se "rides " the shot, absorbing all recoil ..(y)(y)(y)
 
I agree the lad is a bit of a boob, but the girls rifle has virtually no recoil. Looks like she is shooting a .308!
 
Good day to all members, I recently shot /handled a .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer in Johan Greyling`s gunsmith shop..it is identical like my .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer the prominent difference is this .458 MS has a full stock ...man this is a beautiful rifle with it`s full stock, will take some photos Monday and upload on this thread..I decided to go the same route..I will take this stock and duplicate it in the rifle stock duplicator ..Johan Greyling build this full stock for the .458 MS , I really think it is a master piece..(y)(y)(y)

Melvin, I shot my .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer yesterday again, it is just such a pleasure to shoot this rifle ..to me it is a perfect walk /stalk rifle in any hunting scenario, and even better so in a dangerous game hunt where you need to get up very close and personal with the dangerous game animal you are hunting, as the perception is that you hunt an elephant with your "feet" walking about thirty kilometers a day on a track this rifle will be a breeze to carry, it is short, slim and light weight...
