45-70 for dangerous game?

I'm assuming he advised solids because there would be no loss of energy for max penetration?

I believe penetration was the consideration, yes. Both could not possibly have gone better, so I believe he absolutely knew what he was recommending.

Fortunately it doesn't take an expert in grammar to know where a then or a than goes. And please enlighten us all on what uniformed comment that I made concerning your favorite dangerous game cartridge? As far as hundreds of buffalo killed and charges stopped, I must leave that to you and you 45-70 who's feelings I obviously hurt.
I admit you got me on the recliner part. But I didn't have to get up.....thankfully.
OK DEGOINS, we posted this down to a “draw” and independent judges have ruled YOU Lost - your humble apology is accepted. As a prize for You being a “good sport” AH is sending you a Free .45-70, please post photos of All the DG you take with it!

I will gladly accept the 45-70 but I've barely got better sense than to try it on anything more dangerous than a wild pig.....and not in Africa at all.

Referring to future posts... a spelling error that could easily have been a mistake caused by fat fingers (like mine) is pretty low hanging fruit. Pettiness usually ends up biting you in the azz.

This thread is a laugh... so much so, that I just picked up a box of 480 DGX, just to see what my .450 Marlin Bolt Action Ruger can realistically do with that bullet... this rifle was built on a Long Action, so I can seat the bullets out as far as possible with this bullet. I have no intention of using it on DG, this rifle is solely a black bear rifle and more for guiding than hunting, although I have shot a couple bears with it. I may try a 480 DGX on a bear this spring or possibly hand it off to a client to use... although it is far too tough a bullet to be ideal. I will post the chrono results once I get to the range.
Anyone want to run the QL numbers for this endeavor??? Just ain't no info to be found... I've been looking (roll eyes!)...
Ruger M77 Mark II 20" 14 twist barrel, let's say 2.900' (?), 480 DGX, powders on hand in this range, H4198, H4895, 62K Max PSI.

Thanks HOYTCANON for the vote of confidence but my spelling & grammar are lacking, even ‘spell check’ can’t figure out what Word I’m attempting

Dear Mr. Hank Buck,

My previous posts regarding spelling and grammar, 3+1 finger pointing and black pot's speaking to kettles, was referencing distinguished member "Degoins" TTS, "Teacher Tourettes Syndrome."

You, sir... are a gentleman and a scholar... I wish you all the best and good health!

What is the ultimate stopping rifle?

1. Marlin?
2. Henry?
3. Rossi?

I mean, if the "chips are down!"

You sir obviously didn't get my attempt at humor. As far as biting my azz, you're welcome to it.

Just an observation - or maybe an opinion... I don't think even the mighty .45-70 (with solids!) could stop this thread. :p :ROFLMAO:
Yup, not a "stopping" cartridge...

It's all good... have a great evening.
