    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

T Yes, most certainly. I purchased all of mine in the last 7 yrs. Expensive yes, and I didn't buy them as investments, but they've outperformed just about all other markets so I consider the money well-spent.

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

Rolex have been aggressively thinning the indirect AD herd (ie private jewelers) recently and those were the guys most heavily engaged in the leveraged sales of watches with the "buy some jewelry and I'll get you a Sub" deals. Bucherer Europe is now owed by Rolex so they can control their sales...

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

To add a little necessary perspective to this thread......yes, the current Rolex market is crazy, frustrating and challenging no doubt, however, the biggest factor to keep in mind is that Rolex hold their value and in most cases, increase in value because they are not so readily available. It's...

    2023 Model 70 win ...in .375 h&h..upgrades?

These rifles are fabulous as is, don't be in a rush to go looking for issues prior to shooting yours seriously. My .375 is a 2019 model. I'd be very careful with changes and "upgrades." Not to say that issues can't happen, especially with big bores, but before tearing the rifle apart, I'd buy...

    Flying with KLM Airlines

I'm a 1M Diamond flyer on Delta (KLM partner airline) and still have nothing but trouble with KLM connections/flights in-out of Europe. All good until it isn't with KLM and then they're unreachable when it comes to lost luggage etc No way I'd trust them with a firearm. Like Air France...

My taxidermist in South Africa just let me know that Delta is apparently not accepting any Big 5 taxidermy for freight transport back to the USA. (I have 2 euro mount buffalo skulls there along with a variety of plains game euros, flat skins and buffalo hide leather.) Aside from the...

    Tick clothes spray

My PH last summer also suggested bringing canine flea and tick shampoo for the evening shower. Figured it couldn't hurt. Seemed like a good second line of defense along with the various sprays/clothing treatments. Amoxicillin was what they treated me with in the past. Seemed to fix me up in...

    Sellier and Bellot Blue

Full disclosure, I work for S&B. The XRG Blue projectiles are indeed a Czech Barnes-style, tipped copper bullet typical of the category. It's one of my favorites in our line after using it extensively in Africa and America in 6.5 Creedmoor, 30-06 and 308 for just about all of the plains game...

My 2024 resolution is to get a load developed for my Ruger No 1 300 H&H. Wonder if anyone could suggest bullets & powders they've had good experiences with in this rifle/caliber combo, (or just 300 H&H in general)? 180gr and 200gr Partitions are my go to's for 30 cal, but obviously plenty to...

What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

If you can stretch the budget a bit, step up to something from the full Seiko diver line, they'll have screw down crowns vs the push detents found on most of the Seiko 5's. Not that the 5 Sports are bad, but water resistance is significantly enhanced with the screw down crown set-up

What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

Wear what you like or nothing at all, but why do people feel the need to denigrate those who enjoy fine watches? It shouldn't be difficult to see the commonality between enjoying and appreciating nice rifles, optics, cars, pens, watches etc.

You guys with Ruger Africans in .275 Rigby take notice of this!!

I guess I've never owned a wood stocked M77 that was truly accurate by modern standards and that's going back into the 80's. All good, solid 2 MOA game killers, but that's about it. More or less the same as my No 1s. Love them both and they always get the job done. I wish they still made the...

    Best Soft rifle cases

The Hawkeyes are thin enough to fit inside of your Pelican hard case without removing foam, which I find makes for a great protection system. Does anyone recognize this style of scope ring?

Looks like late 80's vintage Burris tip-off rings for standard grooved rimfire rifle receivers. Used to sell them by the boatload at the gun shop I worked in back in St Paul. Great quality and, at the time, they were -30% lower priced vs Leupold rings.

why do people not use premium bullets?

Agreed, some rifles can be very sensitive to bullet design/material. My new production Win Mod 70 375 would not shoot the Norma 300gr Bonded Oryx loads well. 2-3 MOA. I started to wonder if something was wrong with the rifle. Tried the Barnes 300gr Triple Shock and it was like a new rifle...

why do people not use premium bullets?

Just got back from a hunt in South Africa. Used that same bullet in a 308 (Steyr Scout). Flattened everything from impala to wildebeest and kudu with one shot. Upsets recovered from the kudu, wildebeest and warthog. Great performance from the 300gr Barnes on my buffalo at 110 yards.

why do people not use premium bullets?

As I said, for large tough dangerous game, I agree, I'd certainly use a heavy duty bullet, but I've lost count of how many problems I've seen with soft "premium" bullets fired from magnum cartridges and then conversely, tough copper bullets that didn't open up on small-medium game when paired...

why do people not use premium bullets?

For larger, tougher game, there's no doubt a heavy duty bullet like a Barnes, Partition, A-Frame etc is the ticket but when it comes to small and medium game, a simple, accurate cup and core bullet can be a great choice. There's a ton of marketing fluff that goes into selling folks expensive...
