Your avatar and user name

Longwalker, I like your story, I have a similar picture of me from cleaning my driveway after a typical winter dump of snow in northern Manitoba. I have always thought of doing one of those trek's, your story is very inspiring…

In the tradition of @Royal27 bringing up interesting old threads if figured I'd bring this one up and about for the same reason.

Mine is my name, and the pic is the first time I took my oldest son hunting. He was 6 at the time and is now 9. He was watching the deer feeder with binoculars and just loved the whole experience. We ended up shooting a pig at dusk. I was impressed with him every morning, getting up before dawn, never a complaint and a trooper sitting in the blind.

I'm headed to RSA in Sept and figure I'll update my pic then, and I told my son as soon as he saves up $1500 I'll take him to Africa (he's already saved a couple hundred and told everyone he wants cash for his birthday this year!)

My avatar is my hartebeest from my 2014 Namibia hunt. He was the most challenging trophy of my trip and I think the nicest of my trophy photos.

Before I joined AH, I wanted my user name to be something with .308 in it, as that's my favourite caliber, but it seemed to be a bit of an unpopular round on here and I wanted to make friends! Lol. So I just used my user name from our local Saskatchewan hunting forum. It is my nickname since about 1984. Don't know how it came about....could have been because of my awesome red mullet!!!

Well my username is what best I could come up with after 5-10 seconds of thought and being a resident of the Valley of the Sun, the first part seems obvious. On a slightly deeper note, I often wondered who thought that combining P and H together and pronounce it with an F sound was a better solution than just using an F. So why use it twice in my username, I haven't a clue. Just what came to my somewhat twisted mind.

The avatar, that's easy. It's a pic of my wife and I on our first trip in 2010 to South Africa.

Pic is from a large herd of cape buff (maybe 30 of them?) that the wife and I got close to in Tanzania when I was there working (not hunting) in late 2009. I typically use a Jerusalem Cross as an avatar on other forums/social media, but thought the buff was more appropriate for AH.. I am considering changing it to the pic I took with my waterbuck taken with Limcroma recently though..

Username is just my first two initials and last name.. Im neither a doctor/MD, or from the "midwest" like many assume :)

The 2x buff in my avatar were shot within 15 seconds of each other and caused my PH serious heart palpitations as he thought I had fired the second shot in error thinking it was aimed at the FIRST buff which was already down...I had 3x buff on licence so was quite legal in taking the second shot, making my buff tally three!!
For clarity, in the confusion after that first shot, the other two buff ran in a half circle and then straight towards us..not knowing where we were. I was following them in the scope by now snd put the second shot straight into the chest as it ran towards me..maybe a 40m shot?
I was a bit hurried with my user name..should have " Smokin' Joe " after the name given to my 375 H& H by this very same PH in this Tanzania 21 day safari in 2005..

My screen name comes from the love to hunt and to be on the ocean, have done both since I was a kid.
The picture is from my stoep overlooking the Indian Ocean, where I can sit and dream of both hunting and being back at sea.

I picked a photo of me with a guinea fowl on the last day of my safari. Everything I came for was in the salt, and the PH loaned me a .22 and said let's go get some birds for the staff to eat. I was supposed to be shooting them in the head, but one of them was judged a lung shot by the tracker who ran to get it. Great hilarity followed. I thought it was a pretty iconic picture. My user name is first 3 letters of my nickname and last name. I've used it for about 30 years, so it is traditional.

My picture is from Namibia, 2012 when me and my son went hunting, one of the greatest trips of my life. I'll attach the whole photo. My name is me and the town I live in in Northern Manitoba Canada. Other greatest trip was when my daughter decide to hunt while back in Namibia last year.

My Avatar are 4 x shots from my double rifle just after I acquired it and my mate wanted me to prove I could shoot it properly. They were at an old railway sleeper planted about 50 yards off the road, with just the top sticking out the bushes.

Username is something I started using after I bought a Freightliner FLD 120, since most websites want an alphanumeric username or password I thought it would be clever to throw in the 8.

Good to put some reasoning to some of these names:A Hi Five: !

@Bullthrower338 for instance i thought was some serious cowboy who didn't use a rope,
he just wrestled them to the ground.:S Beat Dead Horse:.

Pic is a blackbuck I killed last year on a ranch in west Texas

Username - came from college. My school assigned your email address to you, and the format was always your first, middle, last initials plus 3 random letters and/or numbers.

Avatar is from when I was helping to transport some gators for a friend. I don't have a picture from Africa yet, but will change that soon as we will be there in 10 days. User name is just my Initials.

Mine is a photo of me in the lounge and bar at Afton House, holding either a South African or Namibian beer.

I was browsing the AH forum for years prior to joining it. It is one of the most civilized forums I've found, regardless of the topic.

Username is just a reminder for myself that I should never argue about anything with anybody. The facts discussed that "I know" for sure to be correct and true today, might prove to be false and incorrect tomorrow. Hence, "In Vino Veritas".

I was also considering the 3rd type of knowledge "You don't know what you don't know", but couldn't find a reasonable shorter form.

Avatar - the waterbuck that was not included on my original trophy list. But as Craig Boddington says, “When Mother Nature smiles at you, it’s not a good idea to kick sand in her face”. It's a reminder to go hunting (in Africa) with an open mind.

My avatar is from a holiday I had in Kruger National Park

Name is obviously me, it is in all CAPS, as some of my posts might be, cause that is easier typing for a dummy using his trigger finger to do all the work.

Avatar is a pict my son took of me in Namibia drinking out of a small stream with PH Fred Bezuidenhout in the background.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
