Thoughts on Tuskless Hunting

I’m not sure if I like tuskless hunting. I’ve shot just 8. But I will find out.
Fantastic. Do you repeat with same operators or move around some?

DAMN, IF MY MATH IS RIGHT, THATS TOTALS A FREE TUSKLESS HUNT.

We are NOT enjoying the sport to the same extent compared to our parents and grandparents already. Hunting a rhino in the wild is no longer possible. Ditto for Jaguar, tiger etc..
My personal experience is different and I am enjoying Hunting as much - likely more - then my parents or Grandparents ever did. My family - like most families, never had the means (or desire) to hunt Africa, hunting was enjoyed but only when time permitted and cost was always a big factor. A big deal travel-away-hunt would’ve been a drive down to South Jersey for the 6 Day Firearms deer season and a “safari” would’ve been a deer or bear hunt in PA. Work always came first, there were No paid vacations for my Grandparents so if you took time off you didn’t get paid. Hunting a few days a year or for a few hours after work days was their recreation, any game taken went on the table not to the taxidermist. My family was from central NJ, maybe further South or out West the amount of time spent hunting was greater.
I do understand what you are saying - some game animals are no longer available to be hunted...but there were never a lot of Rhino, Tiger, & Jaguar hunters in most U.S. families anyway, certainly damn few in middle class NJ. A friend of mine from Canada use to say that the “Golden Days of Hunting” were from the 1870s to 1930s: modern & powerful firearms, plentiful game, few regulations....but you still needed some money & free time.

Wonderful. I look forward to more tuskless and non-trophy hunts. Chifuti, CMS, Dalton & York, etc...serious operators doing a lot of tuskless hunts.

Dear Good Fellows,

I apologize to the OP and all others for derailing this thread.

At the end of the day, regardless of hunting elephant cow or bull, deer buck or doe, etc., I believe the haters will hate.
They are bullies and inflicting pain is what bullies love, in this case it is psychological and intellectual pain.
Bullies hate their victims for fighting back and they hate their victims for not fighting back.

The anti-hunters are from my observations, pretty much 100% not the type of people that anyone can reason with.
It’s like trying to teach a pig to sing.
You’ll just wear yourself out and it annoys the pig.

Much of the general public are not haters but easily led for sure.
And I estimate that, many if not most, don’t care wether we bag a cow elephant or a bull elephant.
What sways them is the screeching anti-hunters telling the average masses their passionate lies, such as, “Elephant numbers (or name your species) are dropping fast, due to hunting and elephants are in danger of becoming extinct, if we don’t stop the hunting of them”.

Average people are usually not malicious but they are for sure easily influenced.
And they tend to shy away from our hunting culture when we crow about our “trophy hunting” / “my horns measured whatever inches” / “I shot a gold medal something or another”, “I got a trophy whatever animal into the record book” and all that.
Plus, I agree with those who say we should not be delivering ammunition to our tormentors by posting pictures of our memories in certain open public web sites, such as Face Book and their ilk.

This is especially true if when the general public reads about our critter/s being a huge “trophy”, with whatever inches and / or whatever “score” the horns measured up to and so forth.
The times they are a-changin’.
And IMO, if one must launch their dead critter photos straight at the unwashed masses, it might be a good idea to post how we prefer the preparation of same for eating, favorite game recipe/s and such likes.

We are totally loosing the “information war” but, we don’t have to loose it.
We evidently just choose to loose it I guess.

Tuskless elephant hunt ?
I am envious of all those who are blessed with such a grand time in the African bush, carrying and using a large bore rifle for what they were designed and all the rest that goes with elephant hunting.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.
While I greatly respect that…I could care less what they think! In my life I have truly never cared what the crowd thought. I did what I thought was right as my parents taught me. I was always amazed to see the crowd follow me in my life without my asking in any way. To me like water off a ducks back

Hello Tanks and Rare Breed,

Just like yourselves, I do not care if the real loonies hate me or not, I just don’t.
For 28 years I was a Cop.
And, all the hate directed at me, including verbal and written death threats, did not stop or even slow me down from doing my job.
Water off a ducks back ?
Ya, me too.

However, I evidently failed to state my thoughts clearly ….

So I repeat, the haters will hate, and there is not a dern thing we can do about it, except ignore them.

It is the hundreds of millions or more, easily led members of the general public who, might otherwise be on our side.
All we need to do is …… well, I’ve already detailed that in my previous posts within this thread.
And so, out of respect for the OP and others interested in the original topic of hunting tuskless elephants, I will stop flogging an off topic dead horse here.

Let’s all three of us big tough guys have ourselves a great day and remain on friendly terms, in spite of our occasional differing opinions.

Kind Regards,
Velo Dog.

Did you eat any? Looks tasty
I have in the past But not this time. It is a very grainy meat that needs to be slow cooked ideally. Of course the main problem with meat in Africa is the lack of dry aging in a walk in cooler for 7 days which is the ideal. Some game farms that have nice facilities will do this but it is not very practical in the bush camps. We get by however.

If you want a trophy bull it would probably be a very good time to discuss it before it gets taken. They probably have a good amount of extra quota available now since they were unable to hunt until just now over the dispute.
Actually their bull quota was cut to 1 sadly.

We ate some tuskless blackstrap that was cut into steak fingers. It was coarse grained but I thought it tasted good. The muscle fibers are just real coarse…different texture.

I am obsessed with the thought of Elephant Bacon. LOL

One of the cooks at CMS knows how to cook elephant meat as a stew. Delicious, I requested him again for my hunt this coming October. Not to mention he fixes the best soups I have ever had. Amazing what these guys can do with a wood fired stove.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
