I have been hoping for this for years. Affirmative action has always seemed one of the most blatant infringement of the 14th amendment possible. We fought a Civil War for equality, not equity. Hopefully it will inform judicial decisions in other areas besides university admissions where affirmative action has also run amok.

I am with you good sir.

I was listening to a piece on it on Morning Market Place on NPR, on my drive to work (it is the only radio station we have). They had a fellow who was explaining how this was going to have tragic results for big business in our country, as large companies who have sunk a small country's GDP in equity research will have a much harder time finding leadership candidates who aren't white. Frankly, seldom have I listened to someone put forth an argument that made less sense to me.

Trump picked up tons of moderate and ‘new’ R voters. He converted the party to the American worker party. He got the most minorities ever. The most votes for an incumbent ever. He’ll get plenty of non traditional R voters. The real question is if the Dems and their propaganda convince too many more that he’s the devil before election season so we lose too many more pubs and conservatives. By many on here it’s a real possibility that happens. I’m voting for anyone we put up to oppose the liberals and Biden and the run to socialism. Anyone. It’s the easiest decision I’ll ever make.
You’re right, he did the first time around. He appealed to the average American voter that wants good jobs, pay less taxes and have less government in their lives.

But in my opinion he lost too many of those voters the second time around.

He needs to convince the middle of the road American Joe and Jane Voter that he is supporting them and is going to make their lives better. Without driving away base party supporters….

I find it interesting that Trump supporters give him a pass on pandemic.

Covid truly was not Trump's "fault." But he absolutely owns the nation's response to it. It is those decisions that played such a huge role in tanking the economy. I also don't buy the "he had bad advice" excuse. Competent executives are expected to insure they have good advice.

Trump made the decisions that shut down the economy, he made the decisions to let governors mandate their own responses (creating both the New York and Florida responses among others), and he very much owns the vaccine - something he still proudly claims saved 100 million people.
Yes, bad advice......from Dr. Fauci.

As far as operation warp speed, I think that big pharma screwed us all with that poison concoction. I was foolish enough to get the shots, and have dealt with some strange health issues that could very well be negative side effects?
I wont ever take shots again.

Based on running a pretty large business following my army career, I suspect most corporate leaders would be ecstatic to simply hire and promote the most competent regardless of race or ethnicity. That would be the very definition of non discrimination.

I hope the same applies to the military, but I have my doubts.

Have to wait and see how narrowly it was written. But it does establish a precedence that the left have been dreading for a long time.

The decision was apparently 6/3.

This is part of Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson's dissent. In her view we have clearly come nowhere and only race-based remedies can offer solutions.

Clarence Thomas concurred with the decision and offered Justice Jackson a blistering (by collegial court standards) response.

Accordingly, JUSTICE JACKSON’s race-infused world view falls flat at each step. Individuals are the sum of their unique experiences, challenges, and accomplishments. What matters is not the barriers they face, but how they choose to confront them. And their race is not to blame for everything—good or bad—that happens in their lives. A contrary, myopic world view based on individuals’ skin color to the total exclusion of their personal choices is nothing short of racial determinism.

JUSTICE JACKSON then builds from her faulty premise to call for action, arguing that courts should defer to “experts” and allow institutions to discriminate on the basis of race. Make no mistake: Her dissent is not a vanguard of the in-nocent and helpless. It is instead a call to empower privileged elites, who will “tell us [what] is required to level the playing field” among castes and classifications that they alone can divine. Post, at 26; see also post, at 5–7 (GORSUCH, J., concurring) (explaining the arbitrariness of these classifications). Then, after siloing us all into racial castes and pitting those castes against each other, the dissent somehow believes that we will be able—at some undefined point—to “march forward together” into some utopian vision. Post, at 26 (opinion of JACKSON, J.). Social movements that invoke these sorts of rallying cries, historically, have ended disastrously.

Unsurprisingly, this tried-and-failed system defies both law and reason. Start with the obvious: If social reorganization in the name of equality may be justified by the mere fact of statistical disparities among racial groups, then that reorganization must continue until these disparities are fully eliminated, regardless of the reasons for the disparities and the cost of their elimination. If blacks fail a test at higher rates than their white counterparts (regardless of whether the reason for the disparity has anything at all to do with race), the only solution will be race-focused measures. If those measures were to result in blacks failing at yet higher rates, the only solution would be to double down. In fact, there would seem to be no logical limit to what the government may do to level the racial playing field—outright wealth transfers, quota systems, and racial preferences would all seem permissible. In such a system, it would not matter how many innocents suffer race-based injuries; all that would matter is reaching the race-based goal.

Worse, the classifications that JUSTICE JACKSON draws are themselves race-based stereotypes. She focuses on two hypothetical applicants, John and James, competing for admission to UNC. John is a white, seventh-generation legacy at the school, while James is black and would be the first in his family to attend UNC. Post, at 3. JUSTICE JACKSON argues that race-conscious admission programs are necessary to adequately compare the two applicants.

As an initial matter, it is not clear why James’s race is the only factor that could encourage UNC to admit him; his status as a first-generation college applicant seems to contextualize his application. But, setting that aside, why is it that John should be judged based on the actions of his great great-great-grandparents? And what would JUSTICE JACKSON say to John when deeming him not as worthy of admission: Some statistically significant number of white people had advantages in college admissions seven generations ago, and you have inherited their incurable sin?

Up until a year ago, I worked for a company that promotes diversity in employment.
I was the next in line, as well as the most qualified, for a position that was opening up.
The powers that be, chose a younger unqualified minority for the position instead.
I saw the writing on the wall, and put in my 2 week notice. On my last day, I sent out an email blast to the hierarchy, including the CEO/owner, letting them know how I felt about the favoritism/ nepotism, that was so rampant in this company.
Not one of these gutless wonders had the courage to respond to my email.
3 months later, the unqualified minority they promoted instead of me was terminated.

Hire the most qualified for the position. Skin color should have no bearing on the hiring process

The dissenters are being consistent- afterall, they would never have been appointed but for the policies that enabled them to do a job far beyond their understanding and knowledge.

The NYT has released a video from a reporter embedded with in a medical triage facility near one of the frontlines. The facility was setup in October and has treated 13,000 casualties in nine months. This is just one such facility with lots of gruesome injuries.

We need to get off our asses and give Ukraine the more advanced arms and aircraft it needs to get out of this bogged down war. Otherwise, this trench warfare will persist for years.

You want a shithole country (like the places we all like to hunt in Africa ;)) then apply affirmative action in the USA. You can see how well it works here.

Simple fact, the best candidate does the best job. Hire that person.

Affirmative action has been in effect here for generations. The decision that came down today related only to race in regards to college admissions but hopefully is the pebble's ripple upon the pond. Time will tell.

You’ve got that right! As a senior executive I refused to promote or hire on the basis of race or gender. The best candidate got the job, period. I made HR nervous, but they worked for me, not the other way around.

Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy found not guilty for his lack of action during the Parkland School Shooting.
Probably not guilty because the HR policies etc were followed to the letter. Don't want an injury on duty even while kids are getting murdered.

I feel for all policemen around the world but like nursing, some are in it for the paycheck not the calling.

That’s how we got Obama. He admitted as much today.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
