I had a tree planting crew at our farm two weeks ago. All legal workers from Mexico. The lead man, Juan, and I had a long talk. He strongly supports a hard border. It is not safe for him to return to his home in Mexico due to cartel activity. In his mind we need to do whatever it takes to keep the same influences out of the US.
These cartels don't exist to supply drugs to Mexicans. There wouldn't be enough money in that business to keep any of them in bullets. They exist because of a seemingly insatiable demand for illegal drugs from the US. If I was a Mexican, I'd be more than a little pissed at what this demand has done to my country.
