After the first few months of the war, the only Russian troops that seem to be regularly equipped with them are the VDV and Naval Infantry, certainly not the Storm Z formations making up most of their current casualty lists. Would seem they have not sourced the Taliban yet. Somewhere deep in the pages of this thread, I mentioned that was the "left behind" that caused me the most concern.
Yea I would agree, the average units are probably more equipped like late 90s early 2000s US, squad leaders and above or something like that. The boat assaults have been interesting to watch, the Ukrainians have had several of these boat raids go terribly wrong, this one seems to have been executed very well. Speed, Surprise, Violence of Action.

Keep in mind how quickly we were able to change this though. We went from a handful of 7Bs to everyone having a set of PVS14s pretty quickly. The Russians could also start snagging "good enough" nvgs from the Chinese by the truckload for cheap (or expensive) and nobody would know.

Working class people know better than believe the government B.S. Layoffs are widespread across industries now. I’ve worked in the electric utility industry my whole life and have never seen involuntary severances and we are cutting now along with another large neighboring utility.
If you look at the jobs report that the government is siting over 200,000 added the very same report shows 60% added were government jobs and healthcare. The same report shows if you use the household survey technique that the jobs count is in excess of 680,000 jobs lost.
No-one I know believe they are better off.
Yes, this recent "good" economic news is a "mirage". We have an artificially exuberant stock market with companies buying back their own stock to inflate their numbers and satisfy investors. Stock buy backs used to be illegal until recently and should be again. Our manufacturing index has been in contraction for the last fourteen months. As you've pointed out, most of the "new" jobs have been created by our Government's reckless spending. When we still have 10 million available job openings and only 5 million even looking for a job and still one of the lowest job participation rate since WW2, that's what has created our artificially low unemployment rate and has fueled inflation with ever increasing wages for the workers still employed and/or looking for a job. Like Trump or not, we had a "true" record low unemployment rate with HIGH job participation at the time he was in office. When the commercial real estate market faces the renegotiation of thousands of properties at a much higher interest rate soon, there will be a cascade of bankruptcies with most of that risk held by banks. It doesn't matter though, because the average braindead voter will "group think" with their fellow braindead zombies on social media and vote for Brandon.

Depends on the region. Texas is experiencing a 7% growth in GDP and Georgia is 10.1. Very little of it has to do with build back better. North Carolina and Florida are both growing at 4.6. Wisconsin and California on the other hand are 0.7 and Minnesota is 1.7. You would think someone would note and discover a way to articulate that difference.

Mirage or not this how capitalism works and it has nothing to do with Brandon or Trump.
Presidents have a very little to do in a capitalist, free market environment.
Biggest power is in the hands of the Central Bank which has the mandate for employment and inflation and both Trump and Brandon worked with the same guy.

It's looking like 12 UN workers were involved in the Hamas attack on Israel October 7.

It looks like Abbott and Paxton are prepared for a fight. It is doubtful Paxton would word his letter this way if he didn't know who had fee simple title and easements.

I respectfully disagree on some parts of your post. It's not TRUE Capitalism or a free market when the stock market is skewed through stock buybacks from the same companies inflating their worth to investors. The same holds true when the Government becomes the greatest job creator or when the Fed buys billions of mortgage securities and bonds to keep the economy from tanking. Brandon and his Democratic allies are directly responsible for the Government job creation through the Inflation Reduction (scam) Act and Infrastructure Act. Brandon's "build back better" is based on nothing more than Government spending. It is where we're at today, but it's not true Capitalism. It's more "revisionary" than anything else.

The Jake Sullivan way war - act timidly whether in Ukraine or the Middle East - has now cost a 100k ton tanker actually sunk (I wonder if the environmentalists will even notice?) Considering the range from the coast, the Houthis are almost certainly getting targeting from an Iranian ship loitering in Gulf of Aden. That would have seemed a logical target to any other administration in our history.

Or from Somalis

Or the Somalis. I would hope we would have some fairly good SIGINT.
Can't catch everything. Also the Houthis have a vast network of their own informants on the water in fishing Dhow's and whatnot, not everyone involved in the political movement is carrying a gun. Plenty are everyday dudes with normal day jobs but have allegiance to the cause, and may even get a reward for their info.

The planet has had 5 major extinction events. 99% of all species that have ever lived here are extinct. It’s man’s arrogance that lets us believe we can harm this planet. It will be here doing just fine. Long after we have killed ourselves off.

George Carlin explains it better than I in this hilarious video. Be forewarned to turn down the speaker. Warning. Contains foul language

Avoiding killing ourselves off is very much the point: We're desperately trying not to be part of the 99%, and don't want to be the first of the 99% to do it on account of our own actions, rather than being drawn the short end of the evolutionary stick or subject to a cataclysmic volanic eruption or impact event.

On one side of the argument we have what amounts to a remarkable and rarely seen, overwhelming scientific consensus from those in the relevant sciences, statiscians, etc; along with the mounting evidence that we're in a self inflicted extinction event.

On the other, barring few exceptions, we have comedians that have been dead for fifteen years, petroleum company executives or lobby groups, and right wing politicians and right wing think tanks whose legacy is largely that they couldn't break free of Austrian economic theories long after they were disproven time and time again by statistical evidence when it came to economics, and who are similarly challenged now when it comes to the overwhelming amount of data that suggests action is needed.

It's simply baffling to me that someone who hunts, who should have an acute understanding of how external pressures can impact a habitat or ecosystem, and who generally understand the delicate balance that species have between food, habitat, climate, predator, and prey; could ever think that 8 billion (and counting) humans could fail to have an impact in the world we live in.

In these complicated matters, I use a simple trick to make up my mind: “watch what people do, not what they say”

The politicians, leaders of this world still continue flying their private jets, buying beach front property and prefer buying secondary residences where it is already hot (and should get hotter). (And even worse, insurance companies and banks still allowing loans and insurance on such properties!)

The younger generation, standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Saint Greta of Thunberg, still have no qualms booking a quick weekend away using air travel, because “tickets are cheap”.

The so-called scientists warning us of urgent and immediate doom due to climate change, and it can only be staved of if we welcome a new bright future of wind and solar power and producing H2 and RFNBO’s, while completely laying aside Nuclear power.

With governments wanting to stop the use of artificial fertilisers, “to reduce the emission of CO2”, where the most basic chemistry textbook shows you that higher CO2 = higher yielding crops, thus allowing for a bigger human population.

And I could continue on…

Yes I find it very clear on what side of that question I fall on…

As a hunter and a conservationist I am much more concerned with pollution, efficient use of resources, habitat protection and diversity of species, than I am with millennia-long and never ending changes in the climate.

@OxfordTheCat You’re living in a dream world if you think that climate change can be stopped. 95% of the world’s people are just looking for their next meal. Have you not traveled the world? 95% of the people don’t care! You and your guilt-laden ilk are NOT going to change that or stop the climate from changing.

How about you accept the inevitable and then start doing something to prepare yourself and others for what is coming instead of trying to stop something you will never stop? Keeping me from buying a gas stove or a washing machine that will actually clean my clothes in ONE washing instead of having to wash my chore jeans twice (wasting more energy) isn’t going to do a darn thing! Ever driven on the smog-choked roads in Africa and Asia behind a Chinese made truck spewing hydrocarbons into your air intake? Ever seen how 1/2 of Eastern and Southern Africa grass is burned every year while your ilk won’t let me burn my trash?

You’re darn right the climate is changing! It always has! Have you ever done any reading about the past periods of the earth when it was incredibly hot? Incredibly wet? Incredibly dry? Incredibly cold? And yet the earth still survives. How the heck do you think a jungle that deposited vast amounts of hydrocarbons was ever located under Gillette, WY at one time or under Alaska’s North Slope or the current Saudi deserts? Get a clue! Do you not understand that the climate has been drastically different in the past and that is what caused these hydrocarbon deposits? Wake up!

And why is it that your ilk automatically assumes that a warming climate will be bad, let alone a disaster?! Many species and plants will BENEFIT from a warmer climate. It has happened many, many times over the earth’s billions of years of history! Then it will cool again! Species of plants and animals that thrive in the warmer climate will then be on the losing end as the earth cools. Meanwhile, your descendants will then be screaming about the coming cooling!

Release your guilt that you are ruining the earth and just get ready for the change! How about putting your energy and emotions into that???

The climate is changing. My point, and Carlins point is. Humans can’t stop El Nina or other weather patterns. Which is the major factor in the earth heating, cooling, storms, volcanic activity. The major influences are not controlled by humans. That does not mean Scott or I do not care about water, air or dirt. Actually I would guess CWO above spends more time in the wild places per year than most. And cares as much about natural things as you. His living comes from wild things.

Now that does not mean we can’t do everything in our power not to be abusive to natural resources and actually try to clean up abused areas or pick up a can on your way out.

overpopulation in certain areas and stripping vegetation, removing native species. That is on humans. And there are people that believe humans should be removed or at least reduced in population. And there are conspiracy theories about groups testing how to reduce the population with viruses without killing everyone. I won’t touch that one.

Since we are talking pie in the sky, fantasy land stuff here. Why isn’t human trafficking and the child sex slavery crime against humanity this planets number one priority. The reason is politicians can’t get rich from that.
We actually have far worse, more urgent problems than climate change. Our country is becoming the new Sodom and Gomorrah

And you know how well that ended the last time.

Trying to be a bridge between Eastern and Western schools of conservation.
From India, based in Hungary.
Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
