That’s honestly common practice in areas that go hostile but don’t require immediate evacuation (evac at the discretion of the traveler)…

Definitely not something new to the recent Israel situation or specific to the Biden administration…

Just heard Scalise removed his name from the speakers race, not sure if true.

AP and Reuters are both reporting that. I’m pretty sure it’s true.

Could be, but if we have billions to send to Ukraine, one might think we could spend a few hundred K to get our people out of a war zone.

I don’t mean to make light of the situation. They can just drive or bus to Eilat and walk across the border and take a Uber, taxi or bus to Amman and fly home commercial from there.

One of the best easiest border crossing that I’ve experienced.

I was listening to some character on the news this evening going on about how he was organizing charter flights to "get Americans out." You would think he was talking about Afghanistan. The road distance from Tel Aviv to Aman, Jordan is 66 miles and not exactly through the most contested terrain on the planet.

I would also guess one or two folks have figured that out and the wait in Aman could be a few days - though there are far worse places to hang out.

I guess this Army veteran Congressman must be the "character"? you are referring to.

Just a govt employee trying to do something good.

I think to disparage his efforts is pretty sad actually.

I for one applaud his efforts.

Sure glad you guys have such sympathy for our fellow Americans caught up in a bad situation not of their own making.

Tough cookies guys, walk to some other country or uber your way home. Sheesh!

If you saw that on Fox, I think I watched the same interview earlier today.

Actually no. Didn't see any of the Congressman's self congratulatory appearances. And I admit I am being overly critical on this issue. I am sure his efforts will be perceived as heroic by next November as he thunders about Biden abandoning Americans in a war zone.

Shuttled them through Jordan - amazing. "No one left behind" and "God led him to do it." Probably saved them the cab fee as well as the hotel "until they could book flights home."

Agreed. Connect the dots. Mills supports Jordan for speaker. Trump supports Jordan for speaker. Many closet Dems and RINOS have TDS thus disparage anyone who supports either Mills or Trump. Personally as an American I would not want to be anywhere in, near or traveling though the ME right now especially in Israel and trying to get out of there. Anyone else think this risk situation is overblown...knock yourself out and go for it!

The Cinco De Mayo restaurant in the Intercontinental hotel in Amman is probably the best Tex mex food in the entire Middle East… the rooms are nice as well…

Or the Sheraton and its piano bar is a pleasant place to hang out as long as you can keep the Egyptian and Lebanese ladies of the evening at bay…

I really enjoy Amman… much more than most places in the region…

I even know a pretty good dentist there if anyone needs a root canal while visiting :)

Just sayin… :)

Antique shopping is fabulous as well. I have spent several wonderful official, business and personnel stays in Amman. Wonderful place to visit.

My only point is that the good congressman very publicly did for them what they could have easily done for themselves. Any hotel concierge in Tel Aviv, or wherever they were, could have set up the travel to Amman in about five minutes. And if you read the article, they are still booking there own trips home from Amman.

I haven't followed the events in Israel/Gaza more than a daily update, but my impression is that most of the danger is in Gaza and the area of Israel that borders it, while there is the occasional rockets that go inland from Gaza and Lebanon. Is this the case? and if so, is there an exit from all of Israel?

Amman is a mess at the moment. We have a friend who got dumped there with five bus loads of tourists two days ago and told that they were on their own. No flights, no hotels, no refunds. It sounds like the city and airport are totally overwhelmed.

I guess I am surprised to hear that. In my world travel days, I flew from Sulaymaniyah to Amman many times and would stay in the Sheraton one or two nights before heading onto Paris. Thought Amman was pretty nice during those times.

I’m sure it is. What I am referring to is the current situation of thousands of people trying to exit the region through Amman. Our friend is one of many, dumped there by a tour operator and left without a hotel room or flight. I’m sure it will work out in a week or so, but right this instant, Amman is not the easy exit folks have experienced in the past.

And that Sheraton I refer to was about $300 a night, although my company usually paid for it.

I would assume the heroic Congressman's constituents are dealing with it as well as they "book flights home." All things considered, I think I would hang out at the King David or wherever until a flight was available from Ben Gurion or Queen Alia.

I just don't have a lot of patience for grandstanding from whichever side of the aisle. It looks like the US government is going to start charter flights today which is a good thing. Something they should have had in the works earlier if for no other reason than to deny Mills his five minutes.
