And the real head scratcher was that Clinton signed the 1996 WRA. My how times have changed. The current crop of Dems would IMPEACH a President for signing such a bill….whether he was one of them or not. Obama couldn’t wait to write it out of law. Put to a vote of the people I think a work requirement would pass easily.Agreed. Ronald Reagan first proposed welfare work requirements at a Governors convention in 1967. It was voted down 49-1. It took 29 years of constant, dedicated messaging to finally get the heart of Reagan's idea passed through congress.
The successful 1996 Welfare Reform Act was one of the first targets of the Obama administration. Neutered first by various stimulus bills in 2009. It was repealed completely by Obama in 2012.
