New USA requirements in addition to the form 4457

Amen

Ok so with the help from SSI ( can't say enough good stuff about them, truley awesome folks) I got my EIN #!!!!! With their help it was a breeze. I'm still pissed at the Feds over this but SSI made this easy and at the end of the day, nothing we can do about it. So hopefully here shortly I'll have my rifle permits and will be done with all this nonsense.

Unreal how worked up everyone was and in some cases still is.. I said it was made so simple by SSI...

I have to say it was very simple with the help of Ssi. That being said when I tried to do it on my own I found it the most frustratingly rediculous process a man could ever try to take on. I spent hours on the phone with the it's and aes and no one knew what the hell they were talking about. Now in their defense this was thrown in the laps of the irs and aes with no direction other than to enforce this mess. It's been a snafu from the get go.

You really have to appreciate people like Robert, Rosella, and Tara at SSI for doing this for us.

Robert is going to make a lot of extra money and get a lot of new clients out of this mess.

You know what impresses me the most though? That isn't why he did it. He took care of this because he thought it was the right thing to do. And now he is being rewarded. Funny how that works....

Ok...got my EIN, registered on AES and passed the stupid quiz. I now have two new usernames and passwords...to add to the 3,000 I already have!

Waiting for an email from AES where they tell me what I have won! :)

You have won, your name on a list of gun owners. Your rifle is now registered. Congratulations.

I am quite sure I am already on several lists!

I believe that I have read all of the replies and might have missed this, but has any one figured out, do we need to have the weapons inspected by Customs greater than 8 hours or with in 8 hours of flight time.

As I understand it it means no less than 8 hours from flight time.

From what I have read the inspection thing is still all up in the air. One reply suggested that it will be a TSA inspection when you declare the weapon upon check in.

That is one of the problems as I see it. All these regulations are pointing to are those who are doing business dealing in weapons but us hunters are getting caught in the middle of it because of the way that it was written and is being interpreted.

Thanks, I finally got on the right site and see where it says more than 8 hours prior to departure.

I have gone the ITN route that I have secured from FF custom brokerage. Yet, with all hand, ITN in the system, I have grave misgivings that all will go well. MTG

Lets see, by the time we get our paperwork back our passwords will be out of date and dead? "-)"-)

Thank you Royal.....
I want to bring this up....
This is not about the money... It's about the 2nd amendment!!!!!!!
The brokers that are charging fees to do the filing are exploiting our second amendment and will NOT be there to help save our gun rights. They have no skin in the game when it comes to hunting, firearms or conservation. If you don't believe me, go to any of their websites (if they have one) and see for yourself WHO is an advocate for hunting and conservation. Please go to my website and click the Conservation & Giving Back tabs.....Let me who else does this?

Now for the business side of this requirement: The reason we do not charge for the AES filing for our current clients is because we are doing the filings to begin with for the import of the hunters' trophies so another filing is part of the paperwork for the clients who hire us regardless.

This is exactly why I am going with this company for my 2015 Safari!

Thank you RTR....
It's a brother hood and we need to band together or we will perish.....

My turn today to jump into this mess.

Made a visit to a smaller airport and with two very helpful Customs guys, walked out with a ITN.

I have reservations as to how all this will turn out, but I'm still going to NZ in May.

Thank you Royal.....

That is a little harsh. They are providing a service for which they are charging a fee which, in turn, is driven by the demand for the service. We have plenty of enemies without creating them among those who service our sport. Why not throw Gracy Travel in the same bucket - making money off our need to travel to shoot something in Africa - or how about the the meet and greet business that clears your rifle on their side of the pond. Again, why not spend our energy on the real bad guys..

Hi Red Leg…I am curious as to why you believe I was a bit harsh….I thought about this all day as my intent is not to offend, but to educate. I either was not clear or you misunderstood. Your comparison, by bringing up the name of a travel agent in this discussion is clearly incorrect. 1) The travel agent collects your information and provides the service of finding you a ticket based on your criteria with the responsibility of getting you to and from your destination 2) The meet and greet business is the service that clears your firearms upon arrival to the foreign country with the responsibility of making sure your firearms travel with the appropriate government approvals 3) We provide the service of being your personal importer from the minute you book the hunt until your trophies are in your game-room with the responsibility of legally stepping into your shoes for all importing matters including clearing the trophies. 4) A regular broker is a person who is licensed by the government to clear your trophies leaving the responsibility you, the hunter to make sure all is correct. Most brokers are NOT hunters or active in the hunting industry so it is important for you to be properly informed.

Who are the ‘real bad guys’? The government imposing these gun control laws under the disguise of requiring an ITN filing every time you leave the US with your firearms now. My point is that it took this situation to cause yet another way to make money by charging for a filing when the filing requires no fee…why?....because brokers have no ‘skin in the game’ and are exploiting a government imposed situation to make money.

Thank you for the opportunity to explain.
Robert

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
