I think the Mauser is an extremely unique action in that it's design is absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful lines and mechanics.

And despite claims to the contrary it has never been improved upon. Just as the original Mannlichef Schoenauer Stutzen has never been improved upon. Some things are perfect marriage of function and form.

The 9.3x64 is a fine caliber and is as good or better than the 375s...The 9.3x62 with todays powders will come real close to walking on the heels of the 74 or the 375s. Most mm caliber are loaded in the manuals at 40,000 PSI when in reality most will do just fine at 55,000 to 65,000 PSI in modern firearms, and that changes the picture....Id be satisfied to hunt with any of the calibers so loaded..Today components are available in abundance..9.3x64 is a bit shy but can be found.

The same goes with the Whelen mate. Loaded to appropriate pressures it leaves nothing to be desired with a 250grain bullet at 2,700fps. You don't need no 338 win mag when you have a Whelen.

Often on AH there are difference of opinions re calibers & performance , and which is the best rifle to have . For me the solution is simple , just have a rifle in each caliber

Haven't seen to many 338s putting out 225 grainers at up 2,900 fps and up to 4,300fpe of energy or 250s at 2,700fps and 4, 000 for of energy and you can load up a 275 in the Whelen to around 2500fps as well. To me it seems the 338 is lacking a bit.
But who cares in reality ALL 3 are great calibers.

Hey folks. I'd always prefer a 9,3x64 over a .375 H&H. There's no reason for me to use a cartridge with the technically totally needless belt. And why should I run a magnum system for a job that can easily be done by a standard sized system?
I wish there were more new and modern guns and ammo available for the 9,3x64. At the moment, most of the hunters might see the 9,3x64 unreachable because of the need to reload and the limited selection of factory rifles, thus rather depending on custom rifles (which doesn't need to be second best selection independent of the caliber of the rifle anyway..).
The .375 H&H also gets the job done of course...

LIke you I used it on Safari one time and found it an excellent choice, however and that said I believe the .375 is a better choice for a number of reasons..

Hi, i have recently bought a Muaser 66 in 9,3x64 and i would like to use initially for wild boar night hunting.
Until now, i have shot some RWS facotry ammo and a "training" load with Speer 270 grains.
Does someone has data for reloading with Norma powder as URP/MRP/204?

I played around with QuickLoad and it looks like 203-B, URP & 204 would be best of the Norma powders for 250gr - 300gr bullets.

Is the RL15 the same of 203b? Is the unique one in the list that i don't have.
Can you wirte me some data with URP & 204?
My bullet list is:
Accubond 250 gr;
Speer 270 gr;
Swift A-Frame 286 gr;
Norma Alaska 286 gr.

Unfortunately BT for 9,3 are discontinued....

Thank you. Yes I think so. As you say most of the over/under are attached but correct me If am wrong this solution has Krieghoff used for the more heavier calibers.

Very beautiful rifle. Did you shoot it already? I would assume not being the heaviest one and the scope seems to have an iron ocular. A combination which could be very lively in 9,3x64 and you might have some "proof marks" after shooting it on your eyes . Might make sense shooting it first without scope with iron sights only.

Thank you. I Haven’t shoot with i yet. Due to very slow administration I have been waiting for the license for months and got it just today. I hear what you say about the scope and being a lighter build. I have two other rifles with iron oculars and i haven got a blue eye from them yet My other Krieghoff model Tiflis was not shooting straight at all when i got but with some adjusting its shooting very well. So we will se how this one works.

A fatherly friend of mine (RIP Kurt) was in 1955 the first time in Africa, in CAR.
On his license were 4 elephants and 20 ! buffalo.
Those were still times........)

I once knew a rich good-for-nothing.
Who stayed with his brother two,or three hunting seasons in Mozambique, when the Portuguese still had that to say.
They shot the big game up and down with the 9.3x64 and were very happy with it.

Here’s my 9.3x64 Brenneke. It was made for Brenneke by ESHA in Germany about 100 years ago. It went to Africa, then England. Plenty of charm and small stock dings, but the bohler Antonit barrel is still exceptional. Love the plum brown barrel and the shoulders on the stock.

it has a side safety for stalking and an intercepting safety on the bolt shroud. just was putting a bit of fresh stock oil on it as it was hot and dry last week.

Unlike most people? I really like the look of those paneled stocks.
Any way you could measure the thickness of the stock over those side panels?
Some day I’m going to try my hand at making a stock,and I’d like to make one like that.
