More thoughts on 9.3x64

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the replies.

I have loaded some 286 A-frames and hope to get to the range soon.

Also in my experience I haven't seen such a big difference between 62 and 64.
The main difference is that you can easily find a longer barrel in 64, the difference in velocity is 60 m/s for 286 grain bullets.
In my case with the A-Frame I would like to push the load up a few grains.

I am currently working on the Norma URP, any suggestions to increase velocity?

Antho9364, nice load, where do you get Degol bullets? What powder did you use?

Ballistically there are some differences between the cartridges 9,3x62 and 9,3x64, no matter what is written on the ammunition boxes or what is measured at the shooting range. I can report from practice. I used the cartridge 9,3x64 and the 19g TUG bullet in open areas, in the steppes and also in the high mountains of central Asia, for hunting heavy game species and shot some of them at longer range. Since I also have experience with the cartridge 9,3x74R which has similar external ballistics to the cartridge 9,3x62, I can hardly imagine that such shots at such distances would have been possible with the cartridge 9,3x62. The cartridge 9,3x62 has an aura in the circles of African hunters that unfortunately the 9,3x64 never achieved and that is primarily the reason for their reputation.

I spoke to David Bertram (Bruces son) today about the availabliity of 9.3X64Brenneke brass. He walked to their storage shed and confirmed that they have 4,000+ pieces in stock, that were left over from a contract they had. They are not stamped as B B (Bertram Brass) they have a German Co stamp on them? Guess I will find out which company soon, as I am placing a order for 100 pieces.

Brass arrived today and it has the Bertram Brass headstamp.

I just listed some new HDS 9.3x64 brass in the classifieds.

I spent a hour after dinner tonight deburring and annealing the neck and shoulders on the 100 Bertam Brass cases. I cobbled up an induction annealing machine from watching a few Youtube videos. The 3 modules that make it up I bought off Aliexpress for about $100.

I got Wim Degol's email on AH.
I contacted him and he was able to send me the warheads to France.
I used RS60 powder from Swiss Reload.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
