Interested in a speed test...

In my guide shooting test, I did 23 sec for 6 shots there is a mandatory 3 rounds reload. 3 targets from 20,15 and 10 yards then reverse order that included a jam that I fixed. 9.5 lb cz 550 firing 480 gr peregrines at about 2150 fps in my (then) win mag. Bull is about 10 inches round circle and had a full house of hits
A youngster did the same test with a 375 in 17 sec. I reckon this test is close enough to your scenario to count ?

I may try this scenario with my WM, Lott and .375 with open sights. Sounds like a fun shooting challenge?

This sounds very interesting. I'm thinking that this test can be done in twelve seconds with practice...we shall see. Will require perfect reloading and shooting. With full power loads of course to count. What is the starting position for gun and shooter? What color is the bull? How far are the targets spaced out laterally?

Well, I’ll shoot offhand using my sling, and since I don’t have scopes on my rifles, I should get a handicap for using open sights? Ha! Ha! AND, I shoot at those ranges with my Glock. How about, 15, 25 and 50yds?

The start is flexible, you can hold the rifle as you wish. You are in a 1m or so box played out on the floor.they use a practical pistol type timer the targets are about 5 yards left of each other.

Video attached. The targets are at a slight angle so you can see them all as you stand in the circle but at 20 yards,15 yards and 10 yards distances. Black aiming mark is 3-4 inches but the bull (full marks) is about of about 10 inches. I have put up some videos of my shoot and others on youtube. I tried to upload it to this website-not sure if the moderators will allow it but here is a link:

It's an NRA D-1! Four inch X ring, 8 inch A and twelve inch B. Did you get all rings or just the inside two rings?
Start is flexible? Hold it as I wish? Looking down the sights on target is how I'd do it then. Never give an inch of advantage away on a test. Rifle starts safety on or off? I like this game more and more.

@CoElkHunter I'm thinking similar thoughts. You've got to deal with the recoil, but I'm thinking it's doable. It's idpa difficult.

That was fairly quick reloading! I’ll have to practice that.

@Nhoro your reloads are very good. You gave up three seconds on the mount after the buzzer before the first shot. What was the issue between the fifth and sixth shot?

They score it 5 points in A ring, 4 and 3 in the next. 375 scores 5-3-2. Then they divide score by time using an excel formula. Safety on and we weren’t alowwwd to start with the rifle on the shoulder.

Yes I was just concentrating on being methodical and trying to get setup for all the remaining shots. So I was just concentrating on getting a pass rather than fast as possible. There are several other tests as well.

The last round jammed against the chamber mouth. I had been testing the 450 peregrine solids in my rifle and then couldn’t get them so loaded 480 gr solids. I also loaded them in the first canelure instead of the second. I assumed same nose shape would be ok but oal was about a mm different. My rifle doesn’t like shorter rounds. And I think the pressure of the test makes you do things differently- a good thing because a real charge will put some pressure on for sure !

A Major and Minor Power Factor is involved. Splendid! Points over time is a Hit Factor. What was the minimum hit factor to pass?

Are you allowed to shoot any target first or do you have to shoot them in specific order like far to near, reload, far to near? Tell us more about the other tests. I saw the video of the remote charging target. Are you allowed to shoot it more than once?

Where’s the video of the remote charging target? I haven’t seen it. Or is it top secret?

I’ve had the same type of chambering issues with my CZ .458 Lott using factory 500gr Nosler Partitions. The round sometimes hangs up on the chamber mouth. I believe in my case, the magazine spring isn’t strong enough to fully push the rim into the bolt face before the cartridge attempts to enter the chamber?

I don't have this problem...send them to me for testing.

Well you might, if your Lott wasn't a single shot! Anyway, I'd send you some of these if I thought you wouldn't shoot your roof up! Ha! Ha!

What brand of rifle are you using? Just curious?

Shoot my roof up!?! I will have you know that I unload the rifle in the house mainly because if it went off for any reason deliberate or accidental my ears and pride would never recover.
I don't need more than one round at a time. Those partitions are ok accurate. My gun seems to like the discontinued Hornady Interbonds. Bummer. Doing well with the 400 gr Speers too, but anybody looking to adopt/foster another hunter and donate .458 Lott ammo is always welcomed.

Oh Forrest, too bad we don't live closer. Between the two of us, we could re-write the Lott saga! I had my Lott upstairs the other day and was running some rounds through it to check on it's functioning. My wife asked what I was doing, and I told her I was checking my rifle for it's functionality. She said, "Why don't you check the functionality of the lawnmower while you mow the backyard!" I told her that Forrest told me that my rifle's ability to function properly was more important. She told me to tell Forrest to go **** himself! So, I mowed the lawn! True story?

Well it is a shame indeed. I happen to have a 72" Kubota lawnmower and I don't have any problems cutting the grass quickly so I can get back to playing with my toys. Recently I have been tinkering with a .22 and refinishing the stock on another. Fun, but not as satisfying as shaking the Earth.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
