How did you get your handle or user name?

As I peruse those many threads on AH Forum that interest me, I often wonder about the story or meaning behind the handle or user names of the posters. Many are intuitive to me, but with others, I'd just be taking a wild guess. I've had the good fortune to get to know a select few on here really well and have their back stories, but for the rest, I'd love to hear how you got your name - please do share.

Ku-winda, by the way, is the name of Otto Koehler's Journal detailing his safari to Kenya and Tanganyika in the mid 50's. It means "to hunt" in Swahili and was the source and inspiration to many of us in South Texas and directly responsible for setting me on a path to adventures of my own on the Dark Continent.
I was named after.my dad, so to save confusion they just went with my middle name. Doug is how.my friends know me. I figure that AH members qualify.

I so much would love to say it was in reference to a certain part of my anatomy, but alas "that" it is not.
It was given to me by some traditional bow hunting/shooting friends when I was experimenting with /using some extremely long 7-inch fletching on my arrows

Mines pretty self explanatory. I'm a Whelen tragic and love promoting it at any chance I get so I'm told.
I think 243 HATER would have been a bit much and may have given people the idea that I think it's a horrible little cartridge. Oh that's right I do.

The Whelen is a bit like me,
Misunderstood, and underrated, but has a lot of good qualities. Gets in gets the job done without the fanfare and goes home.

Three decades as a Field Artillery officer.
@Red Leg
In Australia we call artillery cloud punchers as the targets are so far away the shell goes into the clouds before landing on some distant target

Mine was just sort of an afterthought, because back when I joined, the screen name, “Aardvark”, was already taken by someone.
But soon thereafter, that person promptly disappeared from the forum.

I am fond of antique firearms.
The Velo Dog revolver and all of its variants are somewhat collectible.
The full model designation was “Velocipede Anti-Dog”.
“Velocipede” was what bicycles were called well over 100 years ago.
Cars were not invented yet or if they were, they were at the least, not very common.
Bicycles however, were very common and stray dogs (including mean ones) were also very common, in large European cities back in those days.

That said, I sadly have never owned one of those tiny revolvers.

Beginning in the first grade of elementary school, the other children began calling me “Aardvark”, due to my last name being Ard.
That monicker has stayed with me to this day, amongst my friends.
By now I’ve become accustomed to “Velo Dog” here within the AH forum and so, that’s all there is to that.

Blah blah blah Zzzzzzz.:ROFLMAO:
@Velo Dog
I remember have that conversation with you in a PM a while back. Y'all need to get a velocipede revolver for your atv.

We ride BMW motorcycles and when we were in New England on a trip a guy called it a beemaa.

We laughed about it and then I started using as a screen name on a motorcycle forum. Keeping it simple means using the same one here.

Our 2006 GSA sidecar rig with the BEEMAA plates and Mr Happy in sunglasses. We were on a trip to Sedalia, MO for a rally.

@BeeMaa
That's been the nickname for BMW cars and bikes for years.
I can see you in the side car three sheets to the wind(pissed) while Mrs BeeMaa years up the highway

I got lawn darted by one too many ranch broncs as a kid. I used to be 6’ but now I’m 5’6”.
@Neophyte
That would have been easy fix in my house. If'n you gave the old man any sass you would get a size ten boot to the arse. Guaranteed to make you grow. Could explain why I'm 5'18"

I guess mine is self explanatory..and I have shot a few ele..

We had a ton of fun on that rig.

When I started archery in Wyoming the club there was a NFAA and my bow fell into Bow Hunter Free Style (BHFS). I wasn’t the best around with guys that shot 300’s and 60 x’s at most tournaments. I did shoot some 300’s and the best x count I had was 52 when on the second to last target I put two x’s in the same target in a 5 spot, ended up with a 295.
So I put the BHFS together with the perfect score 300. I have used it for a long time, license plate email Etc.

I guess it’s too late to change mine to
243 SAFARI?

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
