AH legend
IMO, Dick's has never been a hunting store, but a soccer, biker and running store. If they stop selling all firearms and related items tomorrow, I would never know unless I read it in the news!
T ball where everyone is a winner we teach our kids that every one is a winner then when they reach adulthood they find out that not how life goes. This is the greatest nation to live in but there are still winners and losers and if you don’t know how to deal with the losses it will get to you.
If you go through your youth not experiencing defeat you have no idea how to pick up the pieces and try again.

IIRC, didn't Dick's pulled their AR15s off the shelf shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting, saying they wouldn't sell them?........at that time, I decided I would no longer buy anything from Dicks. Not so much because of their decision not to sell, but other reasons (most notably very poor customer service). The other big box stores are not much better; I tried to look at a derringer at Dunhams, and the refused to take the cable lock off the gun (I wanted to see how it closed, how well the lock up was, etc.). The sales woman didn't appear to knowledgeable about firearms, and told me it was "corporate policy", so I opted not to buy......and I won't buy a firearm there anymore. I think a lot of this is nothing more than pandering, as they want the 'soccer moms' to shop there to buy their kids supplies for little league, school, etc.
So have at it......I think it wiser to go to a "mom and pop" gun shop for a firearm; they (and many other smaller businesses) are closing their doors because they cannot compete with the big chain stores, and they need to feed their families, too. I much rather go there and get great customer service and pay a little more than have someone who was stocking bicycles an hour ago try and figure out how to fill out the proper forms necessary to appease the govt.
The Dicks near me have really scaled down the size of their hunting/fishing dept, yet increased the size of their stores............I think the whole "no AR15 sales" is nothing more than a sales gimmick and pandering.
Just my 2 cents............after taxes!
Don't know who the young man is above and I don't own and have never own an AR type of weapon, but unless you are bumping me up to business from main cabin.......I don't care about travel discounts either!!!
My son brought up an interesting point about the 21 years age requirement for buying a gun. You don't trust an 18 year old with a gun but you let them vote?

Dave your post made me come up with a thought. I already mentioned that IMO Dick's is not and never has been a gun/hunting store. If I have ever bought anything there, it was a pair of athletic shoes some years ago. Never bought guns from Walmart and other big stores either. I believe that every firearm I have ever bought, except 3 or 4 off of Gunbroker, were bought in gun shops/dealers. Point of this story is that since I never considered Dick's a place to go for guns or ammo, why should I care the least bit that they stopping the sale of ARs. They are making this decision as a business, the government is not forcing this decision. What many shooters or hunters (if they are old enough) don't remember is that Walmart stopped selling handguns in the 1990s. In the area I live in Pensacola, there are I believe 7 Super Walmarts. Only 1 or 2 sell long guns, but I think they all sell ammo ????? Who can figure that out? Point is if a business doesn't want to deal with a particular item, so be it! OK I'm done....just a thought!to be honest.. I didnt even realize Dicks sold guns..
I might go in there once a year to pick up some socks or a pair of athletic shorts, etc..
Im going to guess that very few people that are serious or regular gun buyers hit Dicks first when they think "I want (or need) a new gun"....
Dicks discontinuing the sale of AR15's I will predict will have somewhere between no, and an extremely tiny impact on the market...
and has potential to actually be harmful to Dicks (I wont be shopping there again anytime soon... and many other gun owners I know that would have never shopped there for a gun, but might have gone there for a new basketball wont be going there to make their purchase any longer.. )
You don't have to be an American to question the humor in dead children.@Foxi Perhaps we should leave the discussion about the US Gun laws to the citizens of the USA?
I doubt you would appreciate me proclaiming to be an expert in an unrelated subject started to criticize the politics and constitution of Germany.
Just a thought.
