Gun Control - The Debate, Argument Or Whatever ...

IMO, Dick's has never been a hunting store, but a soccer, biker and running store. If they stop selling all firearms and related items tomorrow, I would never know unless I read it in the news!

to be honest.. I didnt even realize Dicks sold guns..

I might go in there once a year to pick up some socks or a pair of athletic shorts, etc..

Im going to guess that very few people that are serious or regular gun buyers hit Dicks first when they think "I want (or need) a new gun"....

Dicks discontinuing the sale of AR15's I will predict will have somewhere between no, and an extremely tiny impact on the market...

and has potential to actually be harmful to Dicks (I wont be shopping there again anytime soon... and many other gun owners I know that would have never shopped there for a gun, but might have gone there for a new basketball wont be going there to make their purchase any longer.. )

I think Dick's is appropriately named. But I thought that even before this, haven't shopped there in a long time.

T ball where everyone is a winner we teach our kids that every one is a winner then when they reach adulthood they find out that not how life goes. This is the greatest nation to live in but there are still winners and losers and if you don’t know how to deal with the losses it will get to you.
If you go through your youth not experiencing defeat you have no idea how to pick up the pieces and try again.
Shawn

Last week I heard a radio commercial for an online university say, "did you go to college and not get a degree? You didn't fail, the system failed you"

Bull sh*t. You failed because you didn't have the drive to do what needed to be done. This modern culture doesn't take responsibility for its own actions. We blame others for not giving us something for nothing.

IIRC, didn't Dick's pulled their AR15s off the shelf shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting, saying they wouldn't sell them?........at that time, I decided I would no longer buy anything from Dicks. Not so much because of their decision not to sell, but other reasons (most notably very poor customer service). The other big box stores are not much better; I tried to look at a derringer at Dunhams, and the refused to take the cable lock off the gun (I wanted to see how it closed, how well the lock up was, etc.). The sales woman didn't appear to knowledgeable about firearms, and told me it was "corporate policy", so I opted not to buy......and I won't buy a firearm there anymore. I think a lot of this is nothing more than pandering, as they want the 'soccer moms' to shop there to buy their kids supplies for little league, school, etc.

So have at it......I think it wiser to go to a "mom and pop" gun shop for a firearm; they (and many other smaller businesses) are closing their doors because they cannot compete with the big chain stores, and they need to feed their families, too. I much rather go there and get great customer service and pay a little more than have someone who was stocking bicycles an hour ago try and figure out how to fill out the proper forms necessary to appease the govt.

The Dicks near me have really scaled down the size of their hunting/fishing dept, yet increased the size of their stores............I think the whole "no AR15 sales" is nothing more than a sales gimmick and pandering.
Just my 2 cents............after taxes!

I was told at a big box store once that they couldn't remove the trigger lock for me to try the fit in a holster because "federal law." I kept my fifty bucks and never went back. Put people behind the counter who know wtf they're talking about.

My son brought up an interesting point about the 21 years age requirement for buying a gun. You don't trust an 18 year old with a gun but you let them vote?

They just let them vote because they my need to draft them. With the 25 year war we been fighting volunteers my not be enough.

Don't know who the young man is above and I don't own and have never own an AR type of weapon, but unless you are bumping me up to business from main cabin.......I don't care about travel discounts either!!!

Looks like Logan Stark... (although I’m not completely certain from the pic)..

He is one of the creative content guys at Black Rifle Coffee Company and does a lot of their ads..

Exactly!

I'm actually fine with raising the age to purchase ALL guns to 21, but only if all rights, such as voting, go up to the same age.

And defend the nation!

One of the problems is after something happens, the outcry of the masses, call for something to be done about it. The elected class either (1) react and pass something to tell the masses: see we've done something -- we passed a new law or (2) use the something to pass legislation that supports their personal beliefs onto the masses.

A good point Bullthrower. We allow 18 year olds to take up arms to fight and perhaps die to defend the Constitution whose rights we deny to them because they are 18 and can't be trusted with guns. Makes perfect sense.

No one wants to disarm you. But not every idiot needs to get a gun.
What goes wrong in a society that prefers to sacrifice a dozen children a month instead of thinking about antiquated rights?
18 school shootings took place this year in the USA (we have March now !)
Today in a school in Dalton /Georgia a maniac's shooting around himself again.
I know the victim statistic in Europe very well and this is also a reality, but yours is unique .
Thoughts and prayers are much to less.
Jerome,it's a mystery to me why this controversy runs under the thread "Humorous Jokes" ??
What does that look like to our opponents?

Dave your post made me come up with a thought. I already mentioned that IMO Dick's is not and never has been a gun/hunting store. If I have ever bought anything there, it was a pair of athletic shoes some years ago. Never bought guns from Walmart and other big stores either. I believe that every firearm I have ever bought, except 3 or 4 off of Gunbroker, were bought in gun shops/dealers. Point of this story is that since I never considered Dick's a place to go for guns or ammo, why should I care the least bit that they stopping the sale of ARs. They are making this decision as a business, the government is not forcing this decision. What many shooters or hunters (if they are old enough) don't remember is that Walmart stopped selling handguns in the 1990s. In the area I live in Pensacola, there are I believe 7 Super Walmarts. Only 1 or 2 sell long guns, but I think they all sell ammo ????? Who can figure that out? Point is if a business doesn't want to deal with a particular item, so be it! OK I'm done....just a thought!

@Foxi Perhaps we should leave the discussion about the US Gun laws to the citizens of the USA?

I doubt you would appreciate me proclaiming to be an expert in an unrelated subject started to criticize the politics and constitution of Germany.

Just a thought.

This is the thread for the discussion of gun control opinions/and arguments so that it is not thought that we think it’s humorous.

IMO
The reason we are even having this discussion is that liberals in their infinite wisdom believe that they alone have all the answers. They instead have created areas where there is no protection for our children. This idea that when a fox gets into the hen house that you blame the cow and goat and shoot them is crazy.
This is a group that pretends to have so much love for our children that they must be protected them at the cost of the 2nd amendment. But also fight to kill those same children before they are born.
This is a group that believes that the first amendment is only to protect speech that they agree with and if you disagree with them you are a bigot racist or nazi and will stop at nothing to destroy you.
And to top it off they will also defend the criminal who is sentenced to death for the shootings.

@Foxi the 18 ‘school shootings’ included suicides, murder (which seems to happen in gun controlled areas, at least poor places) etc. not massacre which were 3
We're not even two full months into 2018, and there have already been at least eight school shootings in the US.

The parameters CNN followed in this count are:
  • A shooting that involved at least one person being shot (not including the shooter)
  • A shooting that occurred on school grounds
  • We included grades K through college/university level
  • We included gang violence, fights and domestic violence
  • We included accidental discharge of a firearm as long as the first two parameters are met
Accidental discharge! Gang violence (*cough*. Chicago *cough* unarmed *cough*) These numbers were pulled by anti gun biased people, who put stuff like burns and hearing loss (suppressors are hard to get-NFA) in gun injury! If there is a European gun law I like, It is allowing easy access to suppressors

The amount of gun violence in gun free zones are extremely low, unfortunately the results are devastating. I would suggest if you want to see a real problem, just look at the total number of arrest for drugs in a "drug free zone." But you never hear about that.

You don't have to be an American to question the humor in dead children.

There is no humor in dead children. There is no humor in the shooting. The joke is the hypocrisy in blaming guns. The joke is the same people that support abortion (which is responsible for 3000 deaths a day) is saying that if we can save one child it is worth it. The joke is that we can't trust an 18 to year old to own a gun but we can give him a gun and tell him to go die with a gun fighting for a country that won't let him own one. The joke is that everyone says you have the police you don't need guns, when the police were hiding.

Don't think of it necessarily as humor but political satire at how we cannot come up with a rational solution to how to solve this mess and the hypocrisy of blaming guns for the tragedy. Just like how the kids of today are raised, there is no personal responsibility and there has to be something to blame for what went wrong.
