Sometimes they do, and a weird "side clip" feed orientation on the original mausers. I'm not a WR gunsmith, but those are the things we look for on earlier WR rifles to assess value.

Dang. What a deal. What would the group recommend for a rifle scope for a $600~ .300 Win Mag and quality binos for hunting Idaho mulies and elk, plus African game?

Whit, I'd save your money, use your service reputation on guidefitter or the other site, get a pair of Leica HD-R 10x42 binos for $1000. Nothing comes close.

For the leupold part of the equation, get a 1-6x24 and use it hard. When you're done with it if you find it lacking, sell it and get all your money back.

Honorable mention, the 2-7x33 leupold is one of their cheapest products and works great for lever guns, stalking rifles, and all sensible uses.

Doesn’t the 425 require the slant magazine box?

The only modern 425 WR I have handled was in a takedown rifle and I don’t remember anything peculiar about the magazine. Scarcity does not always mean value, but I bet to the right guy, that 425 is worth twice what the seller is asking. Then again, he may be hiding a hogback stock.

Normally my friends find me to be the turd in the punchbowl. I never buy a weird caliber looking for trouble because indeed, the .425WR is an underpowered caliber that is expensive to feed. But @Wishfulthinker580 is correct, at $1500 per rifle, I'd take all the CZ550s they want to sell. Just back the truck up to the door and I'll cut a check.

Investment grade my friends. Go shoot it, have fun. Sell it in 90 days for double that amount if it pleases you.

@Aaron N beat me to the question. That 425 is unique but I wonder how it feeds. Thats a gun someone would do well picking up if they could feed it

Love my VX5 3x15x44 with fire dot. Have VX6 which bumps up the top range to 18 power and adds dial windage but it’s a little heavier and not worth the extra money as 15 power is plenty and I hold for windage

I always Recommend a few rules to collecting. 1.) know the value of what you’re buying, always trying to buy things that appreciate, 2.) only buy something you’d be proud to own and use, even if it loses 95% of its value.

To use an example, R8s will be worth a fraction of current value in 20 years, but nobody is going to think it’s a crappy gun. It’s not junk now and it won’t be junk later. It’s just not an appreciating asset. It honors my point 2, but not my point 1.

An R8 is a wonderful piece of cutting edge, German engineered technology. So was the predecessor, the R93. The value of the R93s plummeted in value when the R8 came out, because newer, bleeding edge technology wins the day. When the "R9" or whatever they are going to call the newest iteration comes out, the R8 prices will plummet.

Nothing wrong with a Blaser, but its not an appreciating asset, its a piece of technology. Eventually an R8 will be the same as an iPhone 4, still functional, but not the top of the heap because new models come out all the time.

Again, I'm an old soul, the guns I'm buying for functionality plus collectibility are all either bespoke, or bespoke made by now dead people. The thing that protects my preferred guns from devaluation is that more cannot be made. If people bought brand new Blasers for $100,000 each, I assure you that Mr. Blaser would find a way to meet infinite demand and make billions of them.

Don Allen cannot rise from his grave and make another Dakota. Anson & Deeley cannot reanimate and work for Westley Richards again. Seymour Griffin cannot make another Griffin & Howe.

Please note: I'm not ripping on high quality guns like Blasers, I'm just explaining why I don't view them as an alternative asset class.

Well not sure how many of the firearms you listed are in most of our gun safes. I don’t have any, so can’t reply, but none of them are mass produced so don’t believe you are comparing apples to apples. For those of us who want a super dependable, flexible rifle that can be used for everything from mice to Elephants nothing out there like it. I would encourage you to look at those R93 prices 20 years from now and let’s talk then.
