Good Gun Deals This Week

I once owned an Interarms .375. The Monte Carlo cheekpiece clouted my cheekbone whilst sighting it in. I shaped that down, and the wood was about 4 shades lighter than the sprayed-on finish. I had to strip and refinish the blondish stock.

I called about this rifle at 9am as soon as they opened and it was sold.
If it’s any consolation, I called about 45 seconds before you and was giving my credit card information to the gun library manager when you called.

Mr Rookhawk is quite correct, when you come across one priced this ridiculously low, you buy it right now! I paid about 3 times the price of this one for my present CZ 416 Rigby.

A friend who desperately wanted one recently asked me to keep my eyes peeled for one. He did have concerns about the potential cost. It shall be a gift now.

Yes that’s it. I tried he is firm. Thank you ActionBob. I just wanted to make sure I’m not missing something or should be on the look out for anything specific to this mftr, etc. im not looking to resale - I have a gun hoarding diagnosis- and the wood grain does something for me. If no apparent red flags I might go with it. I also have a new M70 on order - rep says November build date expected but we will see. One or both are going to Zambia next year.
I believe that is the same action as the Zastava and Remington 798. I picked up a nice 798 from Cabela's last DSC Convention. My father in law used it on his hunt this last July. It worked flawless for him. Seemed to fit him really well. All one shot kills except the buffalo he kept shooting although the first shot double lunged it. I checked the iron sights before mounting a scope and they were right on. It proved to be a tack driver when scoped. Feeds and functions wonderfully. These are Mauser actions. With that wood, what is not to like.

BTW, I predict you may come to like it better than the M70. My new model but M70 is a tack driver and easy to shoot. Very smooth action. However it is heavy to carry all day;)

Bullet availability may be the death of the gun's value. What's it worth without bullets? In the 1970s there were no bullets or ammo for all the double rifles and best guns sold for $250 as wall hangers. Obviously, times have definitely changed, but that gun's value relies upon dies, brass, and bullets in huge supplies. I believe Woodleigh made bullets for the .476 but it’s unclear if they ever will again considering its probably one of the worst sellers amongst their 500 product offerings. For now, they are focusing on building up supplies of their best sellers like 375, 416, 458, 470, etc.
Could one have custom brass and dies made fore it?

Could one have custom brass and dies made fore it?

Yes, for certain on the dies. (it comes with a set it appears?) But even if not, you can get a set of dies made for $500 and 12-18 month wait. So time-value-of-money needs to be calculated into how long a really nice gun is a wallhanger.

As for making custom brass, you'd have to order an unholy sum to get them made just for you. Like $10,000-$20,000 of brass. Otherwise, you're scrounging around or waiting years to decades for enough demand for Qualcart, Jamison, or Bertram to make up a supply.

As for bullets, I can't recall if the 476 is proprietary diameter, or proprietary grain weight? If yes, you can have softs made but it will take a year. If solids are required, you may be SOL, you may be able to spend a grand on swaging dies and draw down something close to work...maybe.

I'm not dissing the gun at all, I'm just explaining all the baggage that comes with a double rifle in a non-standard caliber. If they were asking $22,000 for the gun, it would be easy, you'd just assume it will take 5 years and $8 grand to get the gun operating which is justifiable if you have a $40k gun at the end of that journey and you put in the sweat equity. But at just shy of $50k USD as it sits....not a good plan in my mind.

Unfortunately, you don’t and GB doesn’t do a good job of vetting. I simply won’t buy or bid on a NR seller item or one with little history, it’s just not worth it IMO.

Send the seller a private message and get his phone number and have a facetime call with him. Otherwise, I'd pass and look somewhere else.

That's a very nice and classic looking rifle. Great wood, red pad, rear sight island. Good buy;)

What scope are you thinking?

Thanks! I am excited to put some lead down range and get it dialed in. After reading much info here, ideally I am thinking a used Z8 1-8 or Z6 1-6 if I can find one. Otherwise, if I have to buy new I will likely have to "settle" for a Leupold or Trijicon. my scope budget is $1K-$2K.

Better hurry! the z8 1-8x24mm is also now discontinued in the USA! Yup, the 30mm version that takes scope rings is discontinued here, but still availabe in the EU. The only z8i 1-8x24s available in America now are the rail mount 30mm and the rail mount 34mm.

So in conclusion, the z8 straight tube will shortly be a $5000 used scope just like the 1-6 EE.

The website still gives the option of ordering Z8i+ 1-8x24 with a ring mount? My cart defaults to a USA address with free shipping. What am i missing?

If its the 30mm tube, they only let you pick rail mount. If its 34mm, I think you can get rail or ring mount, but it is an unattractive optic for fine guns and there are very few "refined" scope rings in 34mm whereas infinite options exist in 30mm.

I believe the giveway is the word plus. If its a z8i-Plus its 34mm. The regular z8i in 30mm, the option for ring mount is greyed out on the US site.

I see! Got it. Well it looks like I will probably be going with the Accupoint or VX6, although I am not crazy about the aesthetics of the Accupoint, and I have no interest in the CDS on VX6.

Swaro Z6i 1-6x24mm illuminated is still in production. Amazing scope.

If going Leupold look at the Patrol VX6
1-6 FireDot. It's basically the VX6 CDS 1-6 without the CDS. I have bee running it on CZ 458 Lott with great success. Over 200 rounds and no issues.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
