Good Gun Deals This Week

I am a Winchester man all the way on a 30/30. The marlins, as fine a rifle as they are, just don’t give me the nostalgia I expect from a lever action.
@Wyatt Smith
You ain't never see John Wayne with a marlin.
I rest my case, but to me both have their merits.

Slight change of subject; dropped the Kimber Hunter (280AI) in to have it sent to the new owner, advertised for less than a half-hour and the phone call came in; Gone.
Then I did the stupid thing; looked at the Italian re-creation of a very nice 1886, in 45/70, but it got worse ... Dakota in 416 Rem Mag, is a locked case around the corner :((( Left, almost in tears ...

My hunting buddy has a "Montgomery Wards" (Winchester) .30-30 from the 1960s that his dad gave him. He shot a number of mule deer and one spike bull elk with it in the early '90s before he graduated to a Browning BLR .30-06. He has a scope on it, but of course it's offset due to the top ejection port.

Well, I went out and bought the Ruger No1 in 270WIN, left the others behind. I posted about it in the thread "Allure of the Ruger No1"

@VertigoBE
I'm glad you left the 243 there because of your dislike of it.
The 22/250 is a great long range varmit round but when loaded with the 70gn speer semi spitter it is a fine deer rifle up to fallow.

@VertigoBE and other europeans. There are some good guns lurking in Europe for which you may not be aware. Heym bought many Ruger #1 actions in the white years ago and made very nice semi-custom rifles out of them. Only a handful found their way to the USA and they typically go $3000-$4000. I suspect the average European wouldn't know what they were looking at if they found one over there. Suggest you look for old falling block heyms!

Thank you for the tip @rookhawk, are there any specific marks on those Heym No1’s that I should look out for? Or just simply the Heym logo?

Edit: just found one:

Another model to search for: HEYM MODEL HR 38 N DELUXE

This double rifle has a fair price in today's market. While not a super bargain, the price is at the low end of what I have seen for these during the past year.
I have no financial interest in this. I do however own an 88B...

Heym Model 88B Double Rifle chambered in .470 Nitro Express

Not a terrible price at all, although it does have a few “issues” that need to be sorted out.

It’s a very old Heym, retailed by Paul Jaeger back in the day. As such, it could have been regulated with about any ammo from old Federal, to Wolfgang Romey, to Norma, or British Kynoch. This isn’t a big deal, but it means that the gun needs a custom load developed that will regulate properly as none of the factory loads I rattled off still exist in their original receipe. (Arguably, the Kynamco might be obtainable until they run out of Woodleigh bullets)

The other things is that it is so old it doesn’t have any scope mounts whether pivot, claw, or even a dovetailed groove for a reflex sight. Not a big deal if you’re an iron sight shooter, but it is a consideration.

By my way of thinking, it’s a $10,000 gun because of the additional labor involved to deal with the points above versus a typical $13,500-$14,500 newer heym.

I do think the engraving and checkering are quite beautiful and the gun is certainly a unique specimen.

There's a lang double in 400 express on guns international today for 8500$ which seems a fair price for a double these days also a prewar m70 in 375 straight barrel for I think was 4200$ which is really cool.id be a player but holding out for a 257 roberts

Hilarious asking price for the gun. It’s a circa 2000-2010 J. Roberts & Son built on a single square bridge with the name ”Jeffery” applied. They built roughly 80 of these during that era. There is no way to assign a $40k price tag just because a guy owned the trade name “Jeffery” for a period of time. Not a “real” Jeffery.

Sorry I can’t paste the link for the exact listing, but if you scroll down there’s an Alex Martin 7mm with a short LOP for $2750.

What say you gentlemen? Would it be a decent youth rifle once you mounted a scope?
