Big Bore Addiction Group

depending on where you measure the bullet it measures .578"-.583". the wide spots are at the base with most of the bands being closer to .578".

I might do a cast of the bore to make sure the barrel is correct but I suspect the barrel is fine. I believe this is just a case of too much speed with an undersized bullet.

Gents, The 585 HE 's parent case was the 577/500 3 1/8" Magnum. I know because I sold Ed the first few cases for him to work his magic on.

Here's a few better pics of Matt's 450 NE Sauer.

My Caprivi came in and it is raining again! Sitting here in the office shooting charging Buffalo isn't cutting it, need to stuff this thing full and try it out! Maybe tomorrow or this weekend.

.458 Lott

im going to return all my Barnes bullets for store credit (midwayusa). i will likely replace them with 750gr Woodleigh's since i can buy them with store credit.

CEB is an option but to be honest ive never been able to get CEB bullets to shoot accurately. couldnt tell you why but ive tried them in both the 375 H&H and 416 RM without any luck. CEB are also one of the most expensive .585" bullets available which makes them even less appealing.

That sure is a beautiful rifle Bullthrower338.

Thanks, still haven't got to pull the trigger yet, I'll let yall know how it shoots. May load a few rounds tomorrow if I can't find some factory fodder to run through it.

was that the Lott sold on Gunbroker last week ?
Yes Sir it was. Got a hell of a buy on it as far as I can tell. I was really looking for one in a 416 Rem Mag but couldn't pass it up at that price and I needed a Lott anyway.lol

Matt,
Got a good load to start with, I've got 500gr DGS RN and some CEB's that I believe are 500's
Thanks,
Cody

congrats , that is a nice rifle , I was looking at it as well .

I am glad that someone here on AH got it , enjoy and shoot well .

today i found out what its like to fire a gun with so much recoil that you can feel your brain bounce around in your skull. the recoil produced an instant minor recoil headache which took a few seconds to recover from.

this was my friends 17 pound 585 HE single shot rifle firing a 750gr Woodleigh SP over 150gr of RL-15. the velocity estimate is around 2450fps from his 30" barrel which would yield a healthy 10,000 ft/lb of muzzle energy. i personally preferred the 145gr load which we estimated at 2325fps or so. this load kicked hard but didn't deliver the brain pounding that the more powerful load did!

Better you than me Matt!

BTW, when is that shoulder surgery scheduled?

my shoulders fine but I think I might have done some brain damage... well as long as i can remember how to shoulder a rifle. :E Loopy:

Matt did you get any pics and I am very excited for mine to get finished :)

i know other people took pictures but my personal camera is down and my cell phone runs on coal so i don't have any. ill ask one of my coworkers to send me his pictures and i believe another guy got some video of someone shooting the 150gr load.

as a fair warning, Mr. Hubel's Rifles (at least this one) are very simple and fairly primitive. my friends single shot rifle is a barrel blank (my friend requested a strait thick barrel) threaded into a P-14 action on a very simple unfinished stock. Mr. Hubel doesn't finish the wood or the metal and his work isn't exactly pretty but it is effective. my personal rifle will be a little nicer (and much more expensive) but i had a custom stock made for mine and it will have contoured barrel along with a 2 shot magazine.

Mine will have a laminated stock so I would assume it will be finished but I am torn as to what kind of finish I should have done for the rest of the gun.

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
