Big Bore Addiction Group

Matt, I simply must interject at this point. If you truely got an instant, "recoil headache," then you most likely received a minor concussion. Repeating the experience will
Most likely result in further concussions. All of this can lead to some serious long term damage to your brain up to and including long term memory loss.

Additionally, detached retinas are a serious concern. Please understand that you can detach your retinas without immediate blindness. You can also detach portions of your retinas without detaching the whole thing. The end result would've to require some serious surgery. If you think a double rifle is expensive then you probably should price out some eye surgery.

Just some food for thought. I'd stick to the lower powered 585 HE rounds. Your health isn't worth the long term damage even if you think it's ok now.

I love me some recoil and big guns but there is a limit. I don't know you but I do know that I like your posts and you can't continue to make them without sight or memory.

Do your own research into the issue or talk to a neurologist and an ophthalmologist.

That being said I positively love shooting my full bored 458 Lott and I'd love to try some bigger stuff.

Let the big bore talk continue and I can't wait to see how your 585 HE turns out. Should be a total beast. I'm sure it will be a gun truely worthy of a nickname.

i plan to have mine done with a satin guncoat finish similar to AHR rifles.

Mine will have a laminated stock so I would assume it will be finished but I am torn as to what kind of finish I should have done for the rest of the gun.
A laminated stock would seem very prudent for such a beast!

@Austinkroe = captain buzz kill!

I have no plans of repeatedly shooting the 150gr load. that's all my friend and he/we are both aware of the potential issues that come with heavy recoil. having said that, he wants to try 155gr of RL-15 now...

hes a grown man (with good medical insurance) and he can decide to hurt himself if he likes.

My Caprivi came in and it is raining again! Sitting here in the office shooting charging Buffalo isn't cutting it, need to stuff this thing full and try it out! Maybe tomorrow or this weekend.View attachment 44266
.458 Lott

That gun is very stunning and beautiful, congrats!

ok here a picture as well as a video of the 585 HE single shot rifle.

here is a picture of my friend with his rifle:

here is a video of him shooting a "light" load from the shoulder (750gr bullet at around 2250fps):

as you can tell my friend isn't a big guy (maybe 130 pounds) but he handles that 17 pound barrel heavy monster of a rifle pretty dang well.

Just catching up.... I'm mixed on whether I'd even like to try that monster!!!

I sit here and think I wouldn't want to, but I know if I was out on the range it would be really hard to not giver her a shot.

That barrel looks like an axel for a land cruiser! Hmmmm, duel purpose, Matt I like the way you think!

Not trying to be a buzz kill but I see how it came out that way. I had a friend not too long ago hurt himself and the concussion really messed him up.

That being said, I'm the guy that watched the you tube video of the guys shooting the 577 Trex at the indoor range and thought to myself, "those guys are sissies. I bet I could hang on to that thing." Sadly I've never met anyone with a Trex and I'm not sure where to find one.

Nice video. I'm glad you all had a mountain to back up your berm. That bullet probably carries some serious inertia.

Now that I have 375 H&H do I need to join the group?? I only ask as my wife has just told me to shut up about my new rifle and how I could now hunt anything on the planet with the right shot placement. :A Yell:

You have passed the test and are now a full fledged member.

Well.. almost.... You actually now have to go back to the wife and convince her of why you need a .458, or bigger. I used the potential of an elephant charged here in Atlanta, Georgia. I took the eye roll and shake of the head to mean she agreed! :E Big Grin:

Acceptance is one of the first stages. You are already one of us....one of us....one of us.....now just post to AH and keep the wife happy. Congrats on the new gun.

It wont just be her I would need to convince. I had a hard enough time trying to convince the police hear in the UK to let me have a 375

I would love to see the crime statistics of crimes committed with 375 and up, handguns withstanding! I'd bet money that it is close to none!
Congrats on the new boomer!

They class it as a high energy round and a reluctant to clear people to hunt with them in the UK. However I could have had it with conditions that would make it so I could not buy expanding ammo or bullets. So I dug my heels in and explained the law to them and highlighted that there job is to enforce the law not make it!!

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
