Big Bore Addiction Group

meh no offence but shotguns dont really count...
Not disagreeing... However the biggest bruises I ever got shooting was shooting pigeons (the kind with feathers) on the farm as a kid with an old Montgomery Wards 12 gauge pump with steel but plate. Of course that was over 100 pounds ago!

I find my 375 recoil pretty mild compared to that old shotgun. And even the 505 never left a bruise on me.

I have a theory on why shotguns are more painful to shoot then large bore rifles. shotguns use the fastest burning powders available to accelerate small/light projectiles quickly. this fast burning powder gives a unique felt recoil which isn't unique in a pleasant way. while the actual ft/lb of recoil is much lower then the big bore rifles, the recoil faster and sharper feeling. it also doesn't help that most shotguns are very light guns designed for ease of aim.

Yeah I didn't think they would count but the slugs are .765 cal diameter and leave a hell of a sting on the shoulder.

bullet diameter is only part of the big bore rifle cartridge. bullet weight (SD) and velocity are the other two key factors one must consider.

the 10g falls short when it comes to bullet weight and velocity. a .765" bullet would need to weigh 1250gr to meet the standard .300 SD for most DG bullets. im not sure what velocity would be needed but im guessing 1800+ fps. some people have gotten away with lower SD but they made up for it with higher velocity and the use of mono-metal bullets.

The .600 NE double I mentioned was comissioned by a customer in Norway. The action is made by a former Rizzini employee and it will be stocked and regulated here.

I will come back with pics when it is finished....hope to send a few 900 grainers downhill those pipes..

sounds neat! I look forward to the pictures and a range report.

any idea how much the completed rifle will weigh?

at some point I may seriously look into a rifle chambered in 600 OK (will load to NE levels) and im wondering how heavy it should be.

I'm sure the weight of that gun will be countered by a much lighter wallet!

. And that is with the mercury tube in the stock. I bought it used but can hear it sloshing in there.

that sloshing noise is one of the most annoying things to have right next to your ear after hours of following a buff or ele and you are thirsty and no water........the .500 nitro bolt heym rifle i used to have had one in the stock but i didnt know that, and i thought i was hearing things as i was thirsty....:E Crazy: it was only after looking around to see that nobody had a water bottle, and me shaking the rifle i found where the sloshing noise was coming from......really p-ssed me off listening to that for a couple more hours!!! made you really want a :D Cool Drink:

This one hasn't irritated me yet. I really have to listen for it to hear it... of course that could just be my hearing going to hell!

BTW Mike, when have you NOT wanted a drink? LOL

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
