Best Looking Safari Shirt?

I did it the easy way. I had a number of T shirts in woodland camo in both long and short sleeves that I wore from the middle of May till June, I also had two jackets a light one along with a heavier one. The heavy one never left my room, the lighter one was sufficient for the weather around Port Elizabeth

I got that once too in Zim. I wore a light tan shirt one day, and next day PH told me to not wear that shirt, too light!
I done the same I wore a half button work shirt thinking the cream/tan would be ok with dark green work pants. I use them anyway but had not realised how they stand out in the bush.

I want the shirt that makes me a better shot and a better hunter. If anyone has one that does that and fits the definition of Haute Couture, I'm all in. :A Banana:

My Avatar says it all chaps. I LOVE my old general service issue shirts. I find them comfortable and they still fit me after 20 years.

The useless belt around the middle pure Hollywood
@North American 36 it’s not your shirt with the belt . It’s the chick wearing the belt. I didn’t notice the belt till I went back but she is welcome to wear anything she likes.
You don’t need a fancy shirt for Africa, we no longer live in the Golden Age of hunting and people are not dressed as they seem to have been when hunting was probably restricted to the wealthy.
Some wear Camo it does break up your outline and blend in. If you are not comfortable in Camo find comfortable clothes in suitable shades (Darker seems better)
I had cotton work shirts and a lightweight fishing shirt. the cream colour did stand out. I swapped with my wife and when I looked back she stood out at a few hundred metres. Even sitting on a white Ute.
The same may apply at home. If you are unsure hang something in a tree and step back 300m.
It doesn’t have to be fancy but it is nice to have nice stuff.
My outfitter supplied me a short sleeve shirt with his outfit on it on Arrival. (Brown) and they gave me a Camo cap with the logo on it
The shirt has an inside passport pocket on the left

I heard that several PH`s advice the hunters to not use clothing in Kaki colour,
They say that the Green and brown colour blend is perfect and the kaki colour shine like hvite in the bush, and white is the signal of danger in the world of animal.
Camoclothing is OK in those countrys that allows camoclothing.
Shurt should be a size bigger tha you normally use, because of the movement .

Yes, white is an alarm signal for many big game animals, at least here in the USA and probably in Africa. White rumps or tails of deer, elk, sheep and pronghorn come to mind as they run away. While at Colorado State University, we did research on captive elk being able to distinguish some colors by feeding them with different colored feed buckets. Rods in the eye are responsible for low-light vision and do not distinguish color very much. Cones are active at higher light levels and help distinguish colors. Most animals have a lot more rods than cones. The elk had trouble distinguishing reds, oranges and other bright colors so when hunters are forced to wear fluorescent orange here in the States for hunting, the elk and deer see it more as tan. It is much easier for elk to see ultraviolet colors such as blue, green, etc... To my mind, this is a good reason not to wear blue jeans because blue and purple are easily seen. Green is fine as long as there is green vegetation available. I think the best colors are light to medium browns.

I'll be the first to admit I do not care much for fashion, however I like a nice safari shirt. My favorite is the Rigby one shown here, what is yours?

Is that actual leather? I think it would make me hot.
I’ve used several choices for Safari shirts. Tag Safari is ok. Their style and fit is good for me but they are made in Zim and quality leaves a bit to be desired. Boerboel is a brand I picked up in Namibia last year that I like. In hot places just a T Shirt has been my go to shirt.
There are numerous brands and choices and I don’t think it matters much. Just don’t use light colors. The dark greens or browns are great as well as camo. Looking back at my 1997 Safari pics ,I just wore what I’d wear here deer hunting. I didn’t over think it and buy a bunch of gear!

bought some of these several years ago from Cabela’s, part of their Legendary Safari Series clothing line. I like the pockets and they also have a small pocket on the left sleeve. There is a zipper above the pocket to the left that is a pocket behind the button down flap exterior pocket. Very comfortable and they hold up well. I had the elephant embroidery added.

I have three of these Cabelas safari shirts and love them. I'm not as fancy as @CAustin so no embroidery on mine. :)

I don't. It's spoiling the view...

In seriousness though, I shoot through the summer in a load of green/ grey and dark khaki Craghopper branded hiking shirts. The sort of light weight breathable polyester/cotton mixture ones. I think I pay about £20 each for them. Comfy, breathable, machine washable, UV and midge protection and they pack down small and light. Plus they dry quick.

They're perhaps not the pinnacle of fashion, but functionally they're excellent and they're cheap enough I don't care if I catch a sleeve on a thorn bush or whatever. I'd probably take them to Africa if and when I go.

I also have a couple of Orvis, Harkila and Beretta branded ones which are... honestly, kinda the same, but about 5 times the price.

Multiple challenges for me...

  1. LH shooter (almost all shirts have a pocket over left breast; or no pockets at all; and I don't think i've ever seen one with a left shoulder patch anyway)
  2. 6'6" and 240#. Almost nothing off the rack fits me except jeans, and then mostly western cut (definitely cool with that). If the sleeves are long enough, the rest of the shirt fits me like a sock on a rooster. It would seem they cut the "big and tall" stuff for guys with far more ample waistlines than my 38". Even pants which come unhemmed rarely have sufficient length for my inseam, which is also 38". Buying something other than pants with a "Wrangler" label in the appropriate inseam usually turns into a snipe hunt.
  3. Narrow feet - 14A or 13B, depending on the cut.
I could wear 8-10" boots (Danner and a couple others do make narrow boots) and blouse my pants, but then I look like a fargling soldier-wannabe.

Aaah...The challenges of being "big" without being HUGE.
Wow I thought I had trouble finding clothes at 6’2” , 180! I sympathize with you. Most stuff is cut too wide for me. I have searched and take the time at the shows to try stuff on. My latest adventure was getting ready for Cameroon and wanting some Kryptek brown camo. I finally on the third try with their pants took them to a seamstress who altered them from “relaxed fit” to more of a slim fit. Still not perfect but worked. Kuiu and Sitka usually fit me but it can be an adventure.
Best of luck.

Fascinating! I went to see TAG at their SCI booth two weeks ago and told them essentially: "love your clothes, have several sets of shorts, shirts and pants, great fit, great cotton, etc. Would be perfect if all the seams and buttons were not constantly falling apart and my wife did not have to re-sew each garment one at a time. Not asking for anything, just sharing the feedback with you." Sadly, they were a bit defensive: never happened, never heard a customer ever complain about this, etc. etc. Glad to see WAB, that I am not the only one...

I have shifted to wearing 511 pants and shirts. They have a line called TacLite that offers great fit and extremely abrasion resistant yet very light 65% polyester / 35% cotton ripstop fabric in 5 different shades of brown and green that are perfect for hunting. Their Fast-Tac Urban Pants are also the most comfortable and durable yet elegant-casual pants I have owned in decades. I have been wearing nothing but them for the last 2 years or so, which is what decided me to look at them for hunting clothes.
Yep you have to resew buttons etc from time to time in Tag clothing. However it does look and function pretty good especially for hot weather.
I’d like to look at the 5.11 pants again. I am not sure if they will fit me but I know what you are talking about on the durability aspect.

When we Brits go on safari it can be done one of two ways.....

Just for the record, in my mind I'm picture one, in reality I'm picture two.

As a lefty, I concur. One thing that puzzles me, I guess it is meant to be worn over the pants instead of being tucked in? The pockets down low would be cumbersome. Or is it considered a jacket maybe?

OP - The Rigby shirt is awesome. I have 2. Don't let the haters get to you. If nothing else, a great shirt for camp / dinner.

Darker shades of brown / green are good in natural fabrics. Cammo has its place but a full cammo outfit just make you look like a Teletubby on Safari...
