    7mm Rem Mag

They might be the opposite of monometals, but I'm pretty sure you'll have predictable success with CoreLokt 175's through the 7mag. They seem to shoot well enough through most rifles, I've experienced.

    Rifle for daughter

I agree with this concern completely. The availability of small frame rifles, and shotguns, too, is fun these days, but I get concerned for potential recoil when I see manufacturers putting muzzle brakes on .308's and even 6.5 CM's. Small and light can end up being a handful off the bench.

    Rifle for daughter

Both my daughters shoot .30-'06 with "standard length" stocks and do well with them. Biggest factor is setting up a scope for proper eye relief. Nothing wrong with .308, .270, or any of the classics. '06 us just what I made available to them when they started, and we made sure recoil was manage...

    375 RUM Any Fans?

That 1.75-6 would be excellent. Low to 4x is all you'll usually need. Let the big dog eat.

    375 RUM Any Fans?

Should be fine as long as you're comfortable with it. I'm sure your PH would appreciate no muzzle brake.

    Rem 870 fail to feed...

I'm taking a guess without knowing the symptoms, but there have been some runs of 870's, probably around the vintage of yours, that had defects in the elevator/trigger group. Some would be finicky about certain brands, or the true length, specifically, of 3" shells. Most of the folks I knew with...

    Wyoming Winter Kill

Pronghorn numbers were looking significantly depressed before this winter where I guide east of the Bighorns in north central Wyoming. Disease, drought, and high antlerless harvest over the past several years combined to take the population from overabundance down to a finite, dwindling...

    Do I need a 7mm Mag

The decades-old 7mm Rem Mag vs. .300 Win Mag debate always seems a lot like, or perhaps identical to, the .270 vs. .30-'06 debate. I'm fortunate enough to get to see elk and deer taken with all four chamberings practically every year. While the magnums have the trajectory edge, the personal...

    Nosler partition

I agree with BeeMaa's well-spoken advice above. That said, my experiences as a hunter and professional show Partitions performing effectively on non-thick-skinned game. If you're not after big, heavy and dangerous, NP's old-school cup-and-core (with a hole card) performance is a fine option, IMO.

    Hornady 375 h&h 270 gr SP-RP superperformance

I've used them on elk, muskox and moose, where they are efficient and reliable, but that's their wheelhouse. I would not use them on thick-skinned animals from the jacket separation I saw.

My first 375 H&H... What do I have?

If you can find the one-piece base that matches the original three-hole d&t, it should be plenty sturdy with properly torqued and loc-tited screws. If you don't want to re-drill, that is. What a find!

    Opinions on 30-06

150's in robust bullets don't get the credit they deserve. I'd imagine the elk, caribou, gemsbuck, zebra or even moose won't know the difference in 150 vs. 180 TTSX.
  43. Waterbuck2008

    Opinions on 30-06

All the above-mentioned setups are sweet, but you'd be cutting yourself short if you didn't look at a Browning A-Bolt Medallion. Mine is my go-to '06. I understand the X-Bolt is a fine choice, too. Both can have some pretty lumber, and iron sight options, too.

I'm surprised to see the even numbers on the poll so far. Now I don't feel like such a minority as a lefty. From selling a few left-handed firearms in the past, I always laugh and walk off when an appraiser ignorantly says "left hand rifles and shotguns are tougher to sell." I've found the...
