    How To Avoid A "Ringer"

When I hunt here at home, I first decide if it’s an animal I want to take, and second, concentrate on making the shot. In phase 2, I do NOT look at the horns. Instead, I focus on as tiny a spot as possible and make the shot. In Africa, I explain to the PH what I’m after well before taking...

Maybe, don’t shoot while the guy is “riding” the bull…

Shooting’ a Buffalo is like shootin’ a cow. What’s the big deal? I’ll keep this video to show the next guy who tells me that.

SOUTH AFRICA: KoringKoppie Hunting Safaris *Warning* Stay Away

About as much value as buying a hunt at SCI or DSC banquets. They don’t vet the outfitters who offer auction hunts. Caveat Emptor.

    Collapse Coming?

One thing’s for sure, the American economy (sometimes called market) has generated a lot of wealth over the last 100 years. The corrections have offered tremendous opportunity to make money.

HAS ANYONE EVER TAKEN A SHIP

I have a friend who holds a captain’s license. Unlimited tonnage. He sells yachts. (Sound of wheels spinning.) If my friend can’t go, how about this captain?

HAS ANYONE EVER TAKEN A SHIP

The idea sounds great. Something out of an earlier time. For some reason, my mind quickly jumped to the posts I’ve read where people complained about their bad experience in coach class on one of those “long” flights to Africa. :giggle:

    Dove Hunting in the US

I’m also an “out of Texas” guy. I’ve had great dove hunts in Seymour TX with Ranger Creek Ranch. I’ve hunted them in George West and near Raymondville. Also, check out Texas Dove Hunters Association. They are online and there are adds for numerous outfitters who specialize in dove hunts.

SOUTH AFRICA: KoringKoppie Hunting Safaris *Warning* Stay Away

There are bad apples in every industry. What’s particularly galling is that not only thie guy is a member of PHASA, but they sold you the hunt.

    Collapse Coming?

Berkshire’s sale of Apple makes sense, for two reasons. First, they’re overvalued given their P/E ratios. When Buffet bought into Apple their P/E was something like 12X. Now it’s 33X. The other reason is the corporate tax rate is 21%. That’s down from 52% in the 1960s. Berkshire knows that...

    Good Gun Deals This Week

True. The rifle would be far more valuable if chambered in the Rigby caliber. For sure, I’d hate to have to scrounge for Remington rounds in Africa. As for the Ruger cartridge, forgetaboutit! You can’t find them in the US!
  15. Doug3006

    Good Gun Deals This Week

I don’t believe there’s a nickles worth of difference between the Rigby, Remington or Ruger 416s. All 3 send a 400 gr bullet at 2,400 fps. Any other difference between them are just difference’s….not plus or minus really. The Remington got a bad rap initially because it operates at higher...

Planning My first African plains game hunt

I don’t think you can go wrong with any reputable Namibian outfitter. Several of the best are members of this forum. If you have a 30 caliber rifle that shoots well, bring it. If you’re planning on hunting Eland, then you might consider taking something larger. A 338 Winchester Magnum or 375...

    Dove Hunting in the US

I did some consulting work for Winchester back in the day. If I remember correctly, one of their marketing folks told me the National average was 4 birds per box! Needless to say, the Winchester folks love dove season!

Another thread of trophy shipping costs..

I understand the reasons people skip the expense of bringing trophies home. I surely do. Just like I understand the reasons for traveling without one’s own rifle and using a camp gun. I just can’t bring myself to do either. I’ll bring my rifles to Africa and ship my trophies home until I...

    Dove Hunting in the US

In about a month, I’ll be back in Seymour, Texas hunting doves with my buddy @Jeff505 and several more friends. The early dove season is the start of our high social season. This year, I’ll take my tried and true Winchester Model 101 12 gauge, and a newly acquired Rizzini BR 550 side by side 20...

Need a scope for my CZ 550 .404 Jeffery

Easily my favorite DG scope. Simple as can be. Clear. Precise windage and elevation controls. The current version from Leupold have clicky things and geegaws that are of dubious value on a DG scope. In a set of Warne or Talley detachable rings, which when detached allow the use of the iron...

Namibia offshore oil & gas exploration

Sadly, their discovery comes too late. The whole world is on the verge of eliminating fossil fuel usage. Soon we’ll all be driving Teslas, heating and cooling our homes with solar and wind power, eating bugs, and voting socialist. :p Honestly, this is great news for Namibia.

Ruger Hawkeye African .375 Ruger as Dangerous Game rifle?

My Hawkeye African was in 416 Ruger. I say “was“ because I sold it to my good friend’s son when I acquired an American Hunting Rifles gun in 416 Rigby. I had absolutely no complaints with it. In fact, I took my first Cape buffalo with it. However, I had originally bought a Hawkeye Alaskan...

Should I add a mercury recoil reducer to less than 9 lbs 458 win mag

I do think it’s a good idea. In fact, I did just that with my Kimber Caprivi in 458 Lott. The gunsmith also calculated the amount of weight to be added inside the forearm. Actually, both the weight and position within the forearm fore and aft. He calculated it perfectly. The balance point is...

    .375 H&H

I’ve owned a Winchester M70 in 375 H&H for over20 years. Three safaris and hundreds of practice rounds. Not a crack to be found. Also never heard of a stock crack that wasn’t caused by driving over the gun with a Landcruiser! Not saying it has never happened but not anywhere near being a...

    Rare/expensive plains game species

I agree that it would cheapen the experience. I’ve always tried to hunt game in their native habitat when that’s possible. I’ve hunted Oudad, Scimitar Oryx and Axis Deer in Texas, because they aren’t available in their native range. I plan on hunting black buck in Texas someday for the same...

UPS Customer Centers & Shipping Guns/ Ammo

Same here in the St. Louis metro area. The stores in the county won’t dirty their hands with it. So you have to drive into the city to ship it at the distribution center. That means you‘ll need 2 guns just to ship one! One to ship and one for the walk to and from your car.

    Rare/expensive plains game species

Not to take this thread off topic, but does anyone know why lesser kudu haven’t been introduced to SA high-fence ranches? I’ve never seen one on any list of available species in any brochure. It’s an idle question because I plan to hunt them in massai land someday. Just curious about why...
