I hunted the Karamojo region several years ago. I took 2 buffs one a typical cape and the other a flat horned Nile type. They now say all are Nile. Tremendous buffalo then but saw no other game besides baboons in 10 days. Between Lord's resistance and regular poaching nothing there.

I also use 270 grn Barnes. The load was developed for my by Barnes. I sent the rifle to them and got the recipe. When I am using for plains game I sight it 3" high at 100m it is plus 4 at like 160 yards then starts dropping. I forget where it is minus 4"

Toby, my statement was concerning my Model 995. I am not sure of the difference between the 2 models but I am glad the problem you mentioned has not happened to me.

I read that report, all I can say is on 3 different occasions I have fired 3 shots absolutely as fast as I could work the bolt and had no problem. I have had a Leupold VarX3 3.5x10 since 98 and never had that problem.

I use a Pachmayr F990 pad on my 500. I store it muzzle down to prevent the pad from depressing.

I used the 2.5 on my 500 A2 for several years and it withstood the recoil perfectly. I changed it because I did not like the lack of higher power. I have attached a Nikon Slughunter which some say is the toughest scope made.

I had trouble with my 500 A-Square bending my Warne rings. It is built on a BRNO 602. I had a buddy attach a steel picatinny rail and I now use TPS steel rings. No problem now but I had to add a cheek piece to the stock to be able to cheek the rifle correctly to see through the scope

I have taken well over 100 animals with Barnes bullets, 210 grain 375,270 grain 375, 500 grain .458 in 450 Ackley and 570 grain .510 in 500 A2. I have recovered many bullets and they all have looked picture book as if fired into gelatin.
