Trijicon credo or Leupold vx6 lpvo?

I saw that video, I didn't know you were on this forum. Great video but the Swaro is a bit more than what I'm willing to pay, it's awesome glass just beyond my point of diminishing returns. I'm thinking I need to go with another Leupold. Thanks for your input and the video.

    Stock/barrel contact matter?

No is not like that I know Weatherby has a pressure point towards the front of the forend but this is from the left side.

    Stock/barrel contact matter?

Hey guys on my new Ruger African 416 the barrel is free floated all the way to the action but there is contact at the very front left side where the tip is. The barrel is huge looks like a stovepipe, to a first time big bore owner anyway, so does this pressure matter enough to effect accuracy on...

    My first 416 finally!

Scope and rings yes, probably a Leupold vx 5 or 6 1x6. Idk about a mercury pad I don't think it kicks bad enough for that unless I try some of those Buffalo Bore 350's at 2900. My M70 375 scoped is a lot heavier than the Ruger is

    My first 416 finally!

Does Warne make qd rings that attach directly to the receiver like the Rugers do? I don't rely want to add a rail to mine. That Lupo vx6 is what I'm looking at too. That it a Trijicon

    My first 416 finally!

Finally got a few shots in before dark, she's a bit snappy but not unpleasant at all. Damned LOUD though

Trijicon credo or Leupold vx6 lpvo?

What are your experiences with these scopes on dg rifles? I just got a 416 Ruger that needs glass, I'm familiar with Lupo and I've talked to Mark about the vx 5 and 6 but the Credo looks really good too. Anybody have experience with both? Thanks for suggestions

    My first 416 finally!

    7.8 lbs. A bit light for 416 I've heard
  9. Axle2010

    My first 416 finally!

Yes sir dead piggies are hopefully right around the corner. I'd like to get my H&H to SA first but it depends on how much I like this 416. I'm trying to decide on the scope, most LPVO's seem to be geared towards the AR crowd and honestly I just can't see $1500+ for a short range scope so the...

    My first 416 finally!

It's not the Rigby I've been wanting but it's a first step. I got the Ruger Hawkeye African in 416 Ruger, the smallest of the 416's but she'll do for now and has a durned nice trigger for a dg rifle. Does anybody with experience with these have any advice? Do I need to look at getting it glass...

    28 gauge youth?

You can hunt turkeys with a 22 in Tx?
  13. Axle2010

    28 gauge youth?

That Savage looks good but is a 13" lop, I don't know if that's gong to be short enough for her
  14. Axle2010

    28 gauge youth?

BTW I know it's not a shotgun but here's my little hunter with her first kill.
  15. Axle2010

    28 gauge youth?

I think she needs a lop of around 11-11.5. The mini bantam goes down to 10 but it's only available in 410 and even that's scarce.
  16. Axle2010

    28 gauge youth?

Does anybody know where I can find a 28 gauge for my daughter to start in? I found a 410 Mossberg mini bantam that will fit her but I'm reading that 410 is a really difficult gun to hit with and I can't 410 shells ANYWHERE. I'm reading that the 28 is a great starter gauge but can't find a gun...

Mr Crank what do you have so against the 458 Lott?
  18. Axle2010

Project Goal: Ruger No1 in 460WBY for Speer AGS Tungsten Solids

Would the shallow holes hold a dg type scope under the heavy recoil? I think I'd prefer to have a custom barrel anyway, maybe a bit heavier one too take the beast a bit...

Project Goal: Ruger No1 in 460WBY for Speer AGS Tungsten Solids

Forest why you gotta laugh at me bro? Trying to hurt my feelgoods? I can't help it some of us have more psychological issues than others, do yall think "cartridge attraction" is a thing? I love the 416 Rigby cartridge and all those that are built from it I think. Then ole Roy took that brass...

Project Goal: Ruger No1 in 460WBY for Speer AGS Tungsten Solids

I love the idea of a No1 in 460 Weatherby So can I assume if a 458 Lott can be turned into the 460 that a 458 Win Mag can as well? They're much easier to find than a Lott is and is the same cartridge just a bit shorter yes?

    LOP question

Lol you sound like me, I'm going to find something wrong with the gun cause that'll mean I'm not to blame
  23. Axle2010

    LOP question

Here in south GA my hunting season can run from 82 to 22 degrees. I just wanted to see if it would make a difference going from a 13 1/2" on my M70 to a 14+" on a CZ since I can't try one before I buy. It sounds like there's no noticeable difference so when I find the right rifle I'll jump on...

    LOP question

For you boys that have experience with different make/model/style big bores tell me what you felt. I love my Model 70 375 with 13 3/4" lop and my Weatherby in 300wm is 13 3/4 so I assume that's the best lop for me but the CZ 550's that I see are 14 1/4-1/2". Is the half inch extra going to throw...

CZ550 vs Ruger Hawkeye African in 416?

Yeah good luck with that one. I've looked for the Brown Bear too but they're def few and far between.

CZ550 vs Ruger Hawkeye African in 416?

Tokoloshe you mind if I ask an ignorant question? Why no 416's in Zimbabwe? My guy in SA has the 375H&H and 416Rigby, just curious.

    Starting a cartridge collection...

Bert it looks like you're off to a pretty good start to me, I don't have a third of that. I've only got what I shoot so far; 223, 243, 270, 3030, 308, 30-06, 300wm, 338wm, 375H&H, and 45-70. I have LONG way to go hopefully I'll be adding 35 Whelen 375 Raptor and maybe a 416 or 458 this year.

    Starting a cartridge collection...

I how this is the best place to put this thread. I'd like to start my own cartridge collection and I know a lot of you guys have extensive sets over the years. So what is the best way to get a good collection with having to buy a box at a time in each caliber? That would be EXPENSIVE! I've seen...

They're exactly where it would go. Couple cases of ammo and couple boxes of skeet to break her in with. Maybe a new Patternmaster to go with

    Rem 870 fail to feed...

No offense at all like I said it was a trade that I honestly wasn't all that interested in and you're right the finish is pretty sorry. I'm thinking about getting the tools and using it to learn how to checker stocks. Idk why but it looks like fun. I serious sell it but I don't think I could get...

    Rem 870 fail to feed...

Bee it wasn't easy to spend the extra on the silver when the standard Monte itself is a really nice gun and shoots great but I'm kind of at the point where I'd I can't get what I want I'll just go without and I wanted a purty shotgun. Should be here in the next week or so and I can't wait.
  34. Axle2010

    Rem 870 fail to feed...

They don't get to the feed ramps. When I take a couple shots at birds I have to check to see if it chambered anther round and several times I'd track the slide and it just said "click". I always heard the 870 was a great gun that's why I took the trade, I didn't edit want it but it was to help...
  35. Axle2010

    Rem 870 fail to feed...

I'm not remotely attached to it other than the laminated stock looks fairly nice. I already have a Benelli Montefeltro Silver ordered to replace it but I don't want a gun sitting in a corner collecting dust so I'd like to fix it. I'll try the spring upgrade and see what happens. Thanks guys

    Rem 870 fail to feed...

Hey guys I've got an 870 Epress I got on trade about 10 years ago and never shot more than a couple boxes through. I feel in love with tower pheasant hunting last month so been using this thing lately and got a LOT of failures to feed. Never a problem with light target/skeet loads but with the...

    338-06

Ok, HOW? I'm not arguing I certainly don't know enough to contradict so how do you get the same velocity in the same caliber and same weight bullet from a 30-06 case as from a 338WM (375H&H) case? Seems like if you push the WM case the same amount you push the 06 case you would maintain at least...

3.5 12ga vs big bore rifle

Yeah I've tried to find some 3.5" slugs to shoot out of mind just out of curiosity but never found any. It's hard to even find 3.5" buckshot anymore.
  40. Axle2010

3.5 12ga vs big bore rifle

I'll agree that my Model 70 375H&H is noticeably easier on the shoulder than 3.5" 00 buck or turkey loads from my Mossberg. Much more muzzle rise from the 835 too even though it's ported. I haven't shot anything bigger than 375 so can't help when it comes to those. Good luck on your safari I've...

    404 Jeffrey at 1019 yards!!

Oh OK my bad I misunderstood
  43. Axle2010

    404 Jeffrey at 1019 yards!!

The Jeffrey was originally a military cartridge? That's a helluva bullet for a human
  44. Axle2010

    404 Jeffrey at 1019 yards!!

I like the looks of that cartridge... Yall think 375H&H, 416Rigby, 404J, 458 Lott, and 460 Weatherby would be to much overlap? The Lott and Jeffrey would be optional I think

I'm sure some of yall follow Mark and Sam After work on YouTube but if you don't is a man and wife in Australia I think that are all about llooonnnggg range shooting I mean 2 and 3k yards. I just saw a video where he uses his gunsmith's custom 404J with a dg scope to first sit 600 them 1019...

458 Lott instead of 416 Rigby?

I've been thinking of the best way to build a moveable standing bench for when I do get a big bore. I can only shoot out to 230 yards at home but that's farther than I need for a Lott or NE double. I'm with you 100% in the long range baboon or nuisance critter, I'd love to connect with my 375...
