Candidate for reboring to .375 H&H

I understand what you are saying about having to reengineer the 1917. Would it be as hard with a Mauser in .300 H&H?

Candidate for reboring to .375 H&H

I have an Enfield 1917 in .308 Norma Magnum. I am also looking at a .300 H&H Mag up for auction. Which would be the better candidate for reboring to .375 H&H? Or would it be better to leave both as they are and just buy a rifle already in .375 H&H? I should note I'm in the process of building...

    Sako ~ AV Finnbear ~ .375 H&H Mag (Value?)

There is a Sako Collectors forum which has a valuation sub-forum. The folks on the forum in general know more about Sako rifles than most anyone outside the factory. Just put in Sako Collectors in Google and it will bring you there.

    Overdue Introduction

Welcome! My late in-laws lived in O'Fallon, Illinois. My FIL was a civilian meteorologist working for the Air Force at Scott AFB. He and my BIL had talked about a hunting trip to Africa but cancer caught up with him. My BIL and I are going to try and make up for that next June.

What Line Of Work Are You In

My first cousin sailed with the Oglebay Norton line for many years in the late 60s, 70s, and 80s. I’m not sure if he was ever on the Arthur M. Anderson but I know he sailed on most except the Edmund Fitzgerald. I still don’t know how a North Carolina farm boy ended up sailing the Great Lakes.

My friend Grant Cunningham turned me on to their oil and grease. Grant used to be one of the best revolversmiths in the US until his hands got arthritic. He represented Lubriplate at the SHOT Show this year.

    Good Gun Deals This Week

Remington-marked Baikal MR221 .45-70 double rifle. Comes with Nikon 2-7x scope and fitted Browning case. High bid currently is $490 and it has remained there all week. I thought about it but decided to pass. The auctioneer (Swicegood Group) is located in my in-laws hometown of Mocksville, NC...

    Favorite Lubricants 2023?

Given motor oil, sewing machine oil, and oldie but goodie Ballistol have been mentioned, I am a bit surprised no one has brought up Ed’s Red with lanolin. https://www.hensleygibbs.com/edharris/articles/EdsRedRecipe.htm I still have most of a gallon of the stuff without the lanolin in a metal...

South Texas DSC & Warren Wildlife Gallery

I agree with you 100%. I got a chance to tour the gallery last October. You had to make an appointment for a set hour and the gates opened a few minutes after the hour. Given some in the neighborhood hate the place, they aren't open except by appointment. The gallery is fantastic. Even the...

Finally posting pictures of the new double

I can't speak for Buffalo Bore but Garrett who makes hot .45-70 ammo does give the pressure loads for their ammo. Some of it is OK and some is too hot. From further reading, the 31900 HST is the same as 31,900 psi using a CUP measurement. The 2200 is the metric equivalent.

    Politics

As my in-laws lived in Illinois, I was watching the 2004 Illinois senatorial election to replace Sen. Peter Fitzgerald closely. The Republican nominee until he stepped down, Jack Ryan, was the perfect candidate. Local kid made good, Ivy League grad, partner at Goldman-Sachs, gave that up to...

Finally posting pictures of the new double

The barrel on the Baikal-Remington MR221 says the max pressure is 2200 BAR or 31900 HST. I am not sure how this translates to the CIP/SAAMI standards.

Imagine an African country, the size of Texas that might soon have as many people as the US has now.

I seem to remember some criticism of Britain's Prince William when he said the biggest environmental threat to Africa was the population explosion. While with proper agricultural development they probably could support the growth, I think it would a disaster for wildlife.

A local auction house has one of the Baikal .45-70s up for auction. I think the final price will be less than $1000. Hopefully, much less. I am very tempted. I know it is marginal for dangerous game. However, I have read about rechamberings to .45-90 and .45-120. Are there other rechamberings...

Smith & Wesson firearms is moving to Maryville, Tennessee (Near Knoxville)

As I understand it, some manufacturing is remaining in Springfield due to existing machinery and the cost of moving it. Specifically, the forging machines are quite large, quite old, and very hard to duplicate. It isn't like just buying a new CNC machine.

Oh, yes! When even your hometown state reps turn anti-gun despite all the good, high-paying jobs you provide in Springfield, MA, it is time to say goodbye. Massachusetts isn't called the Volksrepublik for nothing. The new governor, Maura Healey, was very anti-gun as AG and who knows how much...
