Talked to him at DSC - gentleman for sure with true passion.

Was that your Kudu that hit the magic number? Ryan posted one social media last month I believe.

I just got back to the states from an absolute amazing bow hunting safari in Zambia. For a long time, I’ve imagined what it would have been like hunting Africa in the early 1900’s. So, I decided to find a hunt that would bring me as close as possible to the early hunting adventures of africa. After a number of shows and research I landed on Dzombo Hunting Safaris in Northern Zambia in the Luangwa River Valley. I wanted a truly wild African hunt and that’s exactly what I received and more. This hunt I would be strictly Bowhunting.

After, we unloaded the plane and passed out candy we took off towards camp. During the drive we went through a couple of villages which was an eye opening experience. We also saw a few plains game and small group of elephants.

Here’s a few pictures of the camp. It’s very comfortable and nice especially considering how far away we were from anything. That night I heard lions and elephants right outside of camp! I mean close close to camp

My PH, De Bruin, the trackers and scout left early that morning to try our luck at a hippo. To be honest, I was a little nervous about the hippo because their such a large animal with a bow. I knew I only had 1 shot at a hippo and if it didn’t work it would have to be finished with a gun. Personally for me that would be disappointing but we can’t have anyone getting hurt.

We worked the 1st group of hippos but couldn’t get a good shot on a good male. So, we moved to another group of hippo’s. After, waiting and getting into position a good hippo presented a broadside shot at 47 yards. I pulled back my 80lb hoyt and placed my pin on the lungs. The arrow hit its mark and buried to the fletchings.

The hippo took off towards the water and immediately started to spew blood from its mouth and nose. It dove into the deeper water of the river and submerged itself for about a minute. All the sudden it stuck its head out of the water trying to breath but instead spewed blood everywhere. It went back down into the water again. Less then a minute later we saw the hippo up the river coming out of the water tanning away but was spitting and pouring blood from its side. At this point the water was covered in blood. It ran about 50 yards and started to sway back-and-forth and fell over dead.

I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
