Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

I changed my mind
35Whelen then
35Whelen
then for backup, 458 win mag

Sorry guys on some Belgian Wheat beer tonight. Just having some fun. For those that don't know me, I like the 35Whelen

looks like you have wheat intolerance :biggrin2::beer:

If we didn't have the stupid limit on how many hunting guns we can own in Norway, I would build myself a 375x62 :)

Going to a .375 bullet makes it legal for DG in all African countries, and you can use it in any long action like a standard Mauser action and have good magazine capacity.
The ballistics will be the same as a 9.3x62 and as far as I know you will have lots more bullets to choose from when using .375 bullets.

yes i know that but it just seems a lot to do for little gain. if you get around to it let me know as it would be interesting. i will just stick to my standard 9.3`s for the time being and let you do the experimenting :D

9.3x62mm
.45-70 Government
.308 Winchester

.222 Remington
.30/06 Springfield
.458 Winchester Magnum

Closely followed by the .350 Remington Magnum!

If it,s game killed then in the US,it would have to be
30-30
45-70
45 cal ball
as far as me
I hunt with
223 Ruger Varmmit bolt gun
44mag,,Ruger auto loader Carbine
308 Savage 99f lever

270win
308win
375 H&H

22lr
17HMR
223 Rem
243 Win
270 Win
308 Win
8x57 JS
28 Gauge
12 Gauge
9,3x62
44 mag
45-70

Like women, is never enough and the next one is the one you do not have, I let you choose the three you like the most...

But I probably if I can not have them stay with 22lr, 270 win and 9,3 x 62

I know it says 3 however I can't decide , so here's my 4 :

416 Rigby
375 H&H
9.3 x 62
338 win mag

I was able to buy from a very good price a Winch 70 SE .416RM so , now :

.270W 120 to 330 yds (150grs , 130grs)
9.3x62 (20" CZ550 synthetic , handy) 286 grs :50 to 160 yds
.416RM : 400grs 50 to 130 yds (DG and Heavy games) else 300grs 100 to 200 yds exit .375 H&H

If we didn't have the stupid limit on how many hunting guns we can own in Norway, I would build myself a 375x62 :)

Take the .376 Steyr ( 9,5x60 ) in a Steyr Prohunter. It is the 9,3x64 shortened to 60 mm and opened to .375 dia. Ammumation produces Hornady - 225 gr and 270 gr Hornady Interlock.

Mannlicher

Just three huh, that's pretty tough ;)

My top three favorite cartridges are:

338-06 on a Mauser 98 action
358 Winchester in a Savage 99
375 H&H in a Ruger RSM

I know its a little overlap, hands down, these are three of the best cartridges ever designed. If I could add two more, I would take a 30-06 and a 22 LR. Sounds like a perfect battery to me!

I have refrained from posting in this thread, because I really want to put 4 down...but I will play by the rules:

.375 H&H
.300 H&H
.22 Hornet

Honorable mention to the .308 Winchester.

Is that cheating?? :D

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
