Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

30-30 Win (took my first deer with it)
7x64 Brenneke (taken elk, Barbary sheep, and plenty of deer)
348 Win (fun underrated caliber)

Depends on what big game I’m likely to hunt and where, and no doubt there will be overlap, but for a general three cartridge-based battery of rifles for the USA, to include the big stuff in AK like caribous, moose, and bears:

1) .30-06;
2) .350 Remington Magnum;
3) .404 Jeff.

For a three cartridge-based battery of rifles for African plains game and the various DG:

1) .300 H&H;
2) .375 H&H;
3) .404 Jeff.

The 260 rem 338-378 Weatherby and 416 rem mag .I have had a good tome with all three. I needed the 338 win mag in there I hunted with it 35 years

300 Wby
375 H&H
475 No 2 Jeffery

7mm and 30 diameter cartridges. You don't need magnums unless you want to. If you don't reload, find a great factory hunting round and you should be good. As for specific caliber.... Just pick one that you like and can handle the recoil.

270
30-06
375H&H

The 375 WBy thread got me thinking of my favorite hunting cartridges off all time.

Here are mine:

22 LR
9.3x62 (followed close my a 375 wby--less bark with the 9.3)
450/400 3" (really it was the gun it was in--but was a sweet shooting as they come)

Ed
Interesting…my observation is you can see the North America hunters who grew up like me with 22 LR and 30-06 versus African hunters who grew up with big bores

7MM Weatherby Mag
30-06
338 Win Mag
375 H&H

I initially left 7MM Weatherby off but the list needs something less than 30 cal, and that's my favorite under 30. Couldn't eliminate one of the other 3, so I guess I have 4...

257 Roberts
Tie between 30-06 and 300 Win Mag
375 H&H

I hate these, if I have to include small game then it has to be:
22 LR
8x57
12 Ga

If it's just large game, that's easier, it would be:
6mm ARC
303 British
8x57 (loaded to proper spec in modern rifles)

Beyond that, I personally love all things that go bang, doesn't matter to me at all, I'll shoot it all!

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
