Here goes:
308 Win for its overwhelming ubiquitousness. Is there any other cartridge that compares to the number of sporting, military, and precision platforms the 308 Win has been built in? Ever?
243 Win. Easy shooting and mountain climbing in lightweight rifles deadly on anything from fox or coyote to medium game from 0-500 yards and Steve Whidden regularly spanks all the Creedmore fan boys at the 1000 yard Wimbledon with his SAAMI spec 243s.
And from there I’ll jump over the classic 270 Win and 30-06 to my personal favorite, the 35 Whelen because it is Mr. Rifleman, Townsend Whalen’s legacy, originally chambered in the 1903, and pits the smack down on anything in N America from muzzle to 400 yards.
I’m not an African hunter so the big bores are absent in my list.

The 6.5x55 could be subbed out with the 7x57. Its toss up.

I have them - and thats how it started out a non shooting friend was shooting my 303 Brit and said is that how calibres work ? 303 404 505 - so 18 months later those are the rifles I own !
