Who has a blaser?

Well sir, you win. Which GRS stock do you you have and how do you think it handles recoil vs. a standard stock? Those are very interesting indeed.
I’ve the GRS sporter and when you love accuracy this is a perfect stock. I use it with my .243 with heavy barrel so recoil is not an issue.

O my goodness, somebody said the magic tomato stake word. Here comes Bob

If you were ever to swap barrels, what would be the biggest barrel you'd put on that stock?

I’m very interested in a blaser r8 kilombero or r93 selous. Really any of the calibers 375 and up. Would someone be willing to make a video review on theirs? I can’t find one anywhere, thanks.
I would stay away from the R93. The R8 has an improved bolt head and lockup. At **NOT**PERMITTED**, I saw Jeff Cooper’s personal R93 .30-06 jam up so badly that their gunsmith had to bang the action open with a hammer.

I actually do have,.... R93 in .45 Blaser, K77 in .308 Winchester and B810 in 6,5x57R.

All working flawlessly....

I agree that the R8 is a superb refinement over the R93 - but every R93 I have used was extremely accurate and performed flawlessly.

Would be interesting to know if the good LTC's 30-06 round originated from a factory or reloading bench.

Mine is a R8 pro success in 6.5 x 55 which is fine for the UK

Also a .22LR iron sighted barrel and bolt head which is brilliant for practice

If oneday had posted his comprehensive assessment of the R8 a few years ago I would not have gone back down the Mauser 98 route but would have gone for the 9.3 x 62 and enlarged the stock channel to take a 22mm heavy barrel and (if it existed) gone for a 404 jeff barrel and bolt head

I thought, wrongly, that the lighter action and metal would not accommodate the heavier calibre

Of those that have R8s at and above .375:

Does anyone find the sight radius limiting?
Looks very short.
Has anyone actually scoped a. 458 Lott barrel?
The one in the video looks lively.

Not sure I am interpreting your question correctly - distance between rear and front sight?

I have three R8 (and 3 F3). Sight radius is not a thing. People have scoped all calibers. What are you looking for?

Yes. The barrels with sights appear to have a short sight radius. Due to their position on the barrel I'd imagine they come up fast but are limited in effective range being so close together.

I am debating a .375 or something both heavier and lighter like the. 300/.458 combos.

The radius on the Ruger #1 is 17½" and these sights look a tad closer together. Just curious.

On R8 they are roughly 27cm apart (under 11”) on the standard length barrel and roughly 34.5cm (13.5”) on magnum length barrel.

Never had a problem shooting the rifle open sighted although I did upgrade my sights to the HIViZ version on both my barrels with sights.

Longer radius should provide more accuracy but it seems that for open sighted hunting distances these are accurate enough and I never felt them lacking. I admit I do most (though not all) of my hunting with R8 with a scope. I do however practise open sighted shooting at the range and have not noticed decreased accuracy vs other rifles with longer radius.

The only barrel I have for the Blaser fitted with iron sights is a .22LR

Standard length and a joy to use off hand on 8" gongs at 100m

That is technically true, but the positioning also makes them more forgiving for eyes that are less than perfect - a predominant case I should imagine, considering the average age, among those who purchase them. When you eventually order your bespoke Rigby Rising Bite of Holland Royal ;) , the positioning of the rear sight and size of the front bead is an important consideration. The older we get, the farther down the barrel it needs to be placed.

I should also note, the positioning of the sight on both my R8's and S2's are essentially the same as a Westley Richards .318 and Cogswell & Harrison .318 that happen to be here in the room where I am typing. They are both between the wars rifles. The radius is indeed quite a bit shorter than a No. 1 but the sights do not require a hinge to mount a scope.
