What do you think of Tiger and Jaguar being hunted in South Africa?

couple of weeks ago when l was down at south pacific taxidermy
there was a lord derby eland and a full mount bongo there and l told gary peg the owner that I was going to that dream hunt oneday .
he just laughed and asked if l was going to sell the boat to finance it

Forget about "can't" and "never". Marco Polo Sheep was on the top of my "never" list and guess what, this fall it is actually happening. This animal was on my "never" list right up to just a few months ago so never bank on never. I have seen Lord Derby 7 day hunts offered (very rarely mind you) for 12k including LDE trophy fee. There is a lot to be said about being in the right place at the right time, it was not the right time for me with the LDE but MP is another story...

it was just a joke. not a judgement. whatever floats there boat.

My wife and I plan to go back to hunt. my 2nd, her first trip.
She has has list of 4 african animals she wants to hunt.
But, she has wanted an Indian blackbuck since the first time she saw a picture of one and she also wants a fallow buck.
Fallows run over $2k in the US and blackbucks about or almost $2k.
If After getting all our african animals there is time left, We'd definitely look at getting her one of those as she loves the look of the blackbuck.
Neither are indigenous, but if she wants one, and can hunt one for not too much money, we'll do it.

LOL what is it with women and Blackbuck? My wife wants one badly too, she will be hunting one in Texas in Feb for her birthday. Gorgeous critters.

I would rather go bongo or Lord Eland Derby hunting anyday :daydreaming:.

Me too!!!
I think my biggest hunting dream is to hunt those two with my bow.

I also would love to hunt Black Buck and Asian Water Buffalo with my bow.
And I couldn't care less about on what continent I hunt them.

Hunting pen raised Lion, Tiger or Jaguar in small enclosures is nothing for me, but I don't condemn others for doing it.
And as long as the animal is farmed, it doesn't matter if it is a Lion, Tiger or Jaguar you hunt in Africa in my opinion.

Diamondhitch, Good luck on your MP hunt. Are you going after a mid Asian ibex as well? Which country are you hunting? I definitely want to read your hunting report when you get back.

Save your money the goal is within your reach. You will be heading to Argentina, SA.

Jerome really knows how to pick the topics, eye opening to read peoples thoughts about this. From what I am seeing, I still think it comes right down to the individuals idea of hunting. I also commend everyone, a topic like this could have easily gotten out of had anywhere else (anywhere but AH) that's why I love it here.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

I always consider AH, a part of my family, there are a bunch of good people on here that love hunting and nature in general.

Jerome just started the topic. Now he is just setting back smiling at what he created not adding anything. He doesn't want us getting bored.:thumb::nice::master:

Thanks, it was originally supposed to be just Ibex but morphed into MP and Ibex. I will be hunting in Kyrgyzstan and will definitely post a report on my return. Less than 2 months to go!!!

An MP hunt is something I would like to do someday. I don't know if I want to work as hard as it would take for me to get into the kind of shape I would need to be in for a hunt like that. I can't think of any hunt as tough physically as an MP hunt. All the best on getting great trophies. I certainly want to read your report and see pictures!

Well the horses really do most of the work, from what I have heard other than no oxygen it is actually physically no harder than a Bighorn or Dall Sheep hunt. I did tell him that I am fit and willing to go to whatever lengths to get to where the big boys live and do what it takes to kill a cranker! I may regret those words but I do love a good mountain hunt and sleeping like a sled dog curled up with my head tucked out of the wind in a snow storm is no big deal so I don't think it will be too stressful.

it certainly sounds like your ready for this diamondhitch.
hope it goes really well for youse fellas .
cant wait for the report and all them photos
hope you get this cranker of crankers mate

I was not sure if I should post this picture, I got a phone call of a tiger with a kidney problem, he was only given a few months to live, would I have a client interested, I actually laughed it off until I saw a video of him, man was he lively and cunning. So I booked the tiger and we hunted him, this was all done on foot, tracking him in the sand, I know a lot of lions are hunted on the same property(I have even seen lion on AH from same place). My client and myself were not disappointed with the hunt. It felt real and realistic, a lot more excitement than lions, as the tiger was a lot more wary. Hunting is about conservation, that money paid for the tiger went back into the right places.

For me personally, and just speaking about me, a canned hunt of any type is off the topic list. The problem with hunting these animals on a private outfit is where did they get the animals in the first place? Jaguar are not as much a problem with me personally as are Tigers. I never hear any encouraging reports on their numbers due to poaching and habitat loss. The tigers had to be acquired from somewhere, and if so, at what monetary cost, and if it turns out to be a big seller of a hunt, how many more will be purchased for future hunts? I am definitely a hunter, and have no quarrels about a government putting up an animal to raise funds like the Black Rhino which was bid on by DSC. I think that is great! I just become wary of private individuals who miraculously found some endangered cats and said, why not? If India or Argentina sold hunts I could afford and the money was used to benefit the game, then count me in! I would like a Tiger full body mount! :Woot:

If you build it they will come....this applies to tiger hunting. I don't know if you could import it to the USA though?????

Panielsen, I can understand your sentiments but you also need to understand there is a big difference in canned hunting and animals bred for hunting.
