Good evening gentlemen, I have a conundrum and was hoping so of you gentleman could share some wisdom.

in early October I will be best man in a wedding, I have invited a date and am wondering if it’s appropriate to offer her money for wedding attire? It would be done with the best of intentions but the way the world is now I’m unsure if it will be interpreted as such.

@Skinnersblade
Mate it is a two edged sword.
One is saying you don't have anything I like so I will get you something
Two she may have already picked something to wear.
If'n it was me being the old fashioned fart I is I would let here wear what she wants and just buy her a nice corsage to go with her outfit.
In this strange world of equality we live in where we have been castrated by the me to movement I play it safe and do it the old fashioned way.
Bob.

I will assume you have an interest in this woman...possibly beyond just a wedding date. It would be an act of courtesy to give her some cash for a dress. Or you could take it another step and go shopping with her. Set a limit with her beforehand and see how it goes. At least you would get to see your money at work and earn a little good faith by being there for her as well.

+1 on the double edged sword. Could backfire as well. Never know. You know her best and will have to make the final call. Good luck.

@Skinnersblade I agree with both of my fellow hunting brothers about it being a double edge blade. Now me being the fruity chap I am I would say you pick what you want to wear but I'll provide the under garments!!! Best of both worlds and you have made your intentions clear too. Failing that take the gal shopping or get her a nice piece of jewellery that always goes down well.

Ps does she shoot if so should be worth the effort even more if she is a reloader

I should of clarified gentleman she’s a friend of my girlfriends whom Is just standing in because my girlfriend will be out of town. She has to take her father to an appointment with a specialist.

I’m in no way looking to gain liberties with the lady simply not looking for her to be out of pocket for what’s accentually a favour to me. Adding to that the wedding is an expensive affair that seems to be getting worse with every passing week. I’m over a grand into a suit now which I’m told will this week require a hat.

@norfolk shooter my gal hunts she’s already laid claim to the 25-20 @Bob Nelson 35Whelen has been trying to talk me out of.

Based on that I think it is very clear my dear chum. You should offer to get her a nice outfit if she takes it then she is lady if not she is one of them modern thinking gals which is also ok as it takes all sorts to make the world revolve (I may look (or seem it)) I'm no dinosaur.
As for your gal claiming the 25-20 thats a good thing if you ask me. Doing things that you both love together makes for a strong partnership.

Skinnersblade,
Nice thread to ask for advice. But, “I’m over a grand into a suit now”. Dollars? And a hat? Seems a bit much. I personally wouldn’t purchase your girlfriend’s friend any wedding attire. Just my 2 centavos.

I'd cover her expenses for the trip, drinks, etc., but maybe not the attire. It seems like a stretch to me. I'm just a simple country boy, but I've e been around a bit in social situations, and this seems like a short ride to Trouble City to me, hahaha .
+1.

Its probably too late for this recomendation, but I'd probably go by yourself. Being part of the wedding party, you are going to be busy and she will either be bored to death or drunk in the men's room all night.

Unless this is a uber high class wedding, she should already have an appropriate outfit or she can buy it on her own. If dress request is formal, then I would buy the dress but have your girlfriend send the money on your behalf

Here in the states, almost everyone RENTS a tuxedo if need be as a member of the wedding party. I’ve known ladies who will buy a wedding outfit (not the wedding gown itself) for the wedding as brides maids, and then return it to the store the next day. Just saying?

Ask your girlfriend.

The brides father is on of our major suppliers , She’s also turned. Into so kind of other worldly creature of nightmares from what I can see.

so yes a 1000$ dollars into a suit and yes a hat more specifically a very percise shade of gray on gray plaid flat cap to match the braces and pants... :A Bang Head: I’m hoping to pass it off as a business expense.

“Other worldly creature of nightmares”. Your scaring me. Sounds like some of the members on here? Ha! Anyway, yes, try and write it off as a business expense.
