Update COVID rules

I’m confused about FOUR jabs. That would be the initial 2 vaccination shots and a booster. Then one more booster? I know it is possible, I just want to make sure I am understanding correctly
Forget about it! Get the PCR and go hunting!

Some countries are requiring a vaccine within 6-9 months, this could bring on a 4th booster. South Africa is not one of those countries. Also, our CDC is beginning to push a 2nd booster.

I have come to the conclusion that the person who started this has some issues.

safe travels

Just e mailed Elize at Afton…her reply….. they had not any problems and totally not aware of any entry issues. Where is FWB with any updates….seems FWB ???is not our FWB.
I was thinking that yesterday as I was in contact with people in South Africa that had picked up clients and they all said this is BS.

Safe travels

I was in the air. Elise knows very well our problems. Mr X waited two hours, then left airport. I called when we got escorted from JNB and she asked “ where are you?” Joseph came and collected us quite late. Happy it is over. Although we all had PCR’s they were more than one day old, and not accepted. We are in Newark. Just told the other hunters of comments above saying that this is bogus. It isn’t. They are shaking their heads….FWB

Just got a hold Mr X. The issue is not with South Africa and coming into South Africa from the USA directly. The issue is for all people coming from Namibia, you need an Antigen test to enter South Africa.
So, no matter what nationality you are, if you are heading to Namibia, and returning to your home country VIA South Africa, make sure that get an antigen test before departing Namibia.

PS: If you are planning on overnighting in South Africa, you will need another Antigen test at the airport before you leave for the USA, since the first one would have expired.
There are plenty of sites at JHB airport to do both Antigen and PCR tests, whatever your country require.

Thank you, Marius for sifting through the mud and resolving this mystery. Your secret life as a superhero crime fighting investigator pays off once again.

Perhaps we can all just start to imagine some other eventualities that could occur during international travel before deciding to search for the aluminum foil hats!

@flatwater bill Thanks for sharing the sad part of your adventure in international travel and warning your fellow members.

@KMG Hunting Safaris thanks for jumping on it and helping provide supporting information.

Without FWB posting other hunters could have been caught in the same mess.

It certainly appears the IP address log supports FWB trip. Yesterday and then this morning.

Though not South Africa, just did trips to Argentina and Spain. Everywhere is different and things change constantly. Another reason to use a competent travel agent.

Argentina required proof of vaccination, a PCR test, and the completion of an online form to enter the country. Flew American Airlines and masks were required. Return from Argentina to the US required an Antigen test within one-day (not 24 hours - important distinction) of departure. We took those at the airport. Turn around time was approximately 15 minutes. Easy.

Spain (and the rest of the EU) was even easier. No test is required if carrying proof of vaccination. A simple on line form was also required. It is also possible to enter unvaccinated with a a neg PCR test or proof of recovery from Covid (not sure what would be acceptable as proof - though likely more than a note from the doctor). :E Shrug: Return trip required the US mandated antigen test. Young tech came by our room in the hotel the day before departure and administered it. Test and results took all of maybe five-minutes. Very short on-line form to transit Amsterdam. Easy.

Lucky on flights as well. Outbound on Delta was first day after the mask mandate was overturned. Very comfortable in business class without masks, though typical Delta interpretation of food. Return flight was first day KLM dropped their mask requirement. Very, very comfortable in business class with an actual meal and great service.

I will add that it is a lot easier to travel internationally if vaccinated.

Now you are just showing off. ;)

The auluminum hats exist because no one is specific on details. Just so the first post did not mention from Nambia. Seem to imply entry to South Africa. Read the post.

It was about entry into RSA and added the specifics of entry from Namibia.

Attacking a post/member with baseless accusations, helped resolve the questions/concerns?
At least your post was merely hesitant....
Seems so inconsistent as to entry….is FWB the real one posting…replies seem very brief with no details…Hmmmmm.
Without details I’m calling troll.
Without any valid details as to "why", I tend to believe someone else is posting for flatwater bill.

Choosing to ignore multiple time zones is a problem that persists on AH. This is an international forum with members in EVERY TIME ZONE.
As an example: It's currently 02:03 in Joburg! I doubt Marius will see my current reply for another 5 hours.

Another 7 Americans denied entry today. From Namibia. Afton Lodge wondering what to do….FWB
Sadly, when people are having a personal crisis they tend toward being rather short on details.
They just scream help! OR @#$%^&*&^%$!!
Not much detail, but it gets your attention.

In less than 22 hours from the post another member, @KMG Hunting Safaris got some information that was useful and confirmed FWB assertions. (Marius has enough sense to search for some facts, not attack another member.)

Did anyone bother to think that tests might be available "all over the airport" on the departures side and NOT the ARRIVALS side. Who the hell needs a test on arrival? Only those who managed to get past the gate controls at the departures end in Namibia.
Can you imagine that, an African airline could let someone on a plane without being tested. Perhaps, @Philip Glass gave the departure staff a bribe and it did not solve everything. :E Rofl:

As @Red Leg just illustrated entry requirements are determined by each country and also change depending on your entry method or route and nationality.

Did @SFRanger7GP manage to ask his contact where his friends hunters arrived from? Anyone attack him for his lack of details?

In the end, I'm rather interested in the communication from Afton denying knowledge of any issues for customers that were just there.

Having traveled internationally and having issues, my only thoughts were to get this done however we can to keep moving forward. It was not to post online with vague details to get others in the midst of planning or getting ready to leave all fired up.
If you have time to post there’s time for a more accurate post.
I’ll take a call out, but there’s plenty to go around. Guess maybe it depends who ya are.

Brickburn, I suspect that is because the right questions were not being asked by the person reaching out to Afton House which I suspect was because of the lack of info that was given to us initially. It might have been asked in such a way like "is anyone from the US having issues gaining entry to South Africa" and the right answer there was basically no they weren't because it was in fact people coming from Namibia. That nexus attaching the two together probably wasn't registering to the person at Afton House. First post was at 3:48am saying denied entry. Next post 2 hours later saying they stood in line for 5 hours. Crisis was obviously over and the posts were taking place after everything happened, and then continued with extremely vague posts even a day later, which is when even I got irritated by the lack of info and I am a pretty level headed guy.

Take a travel kit with tests and use the online proctor. It’s easy and results are within 15-20 minutes. I used it last week simple to do as long as you have internet. Have to have it to at least enter the US within 24hrs. They watch you administer the test over the phone and email results quickly. This and proper vaccines will allow travel to and fro. I used BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card and NAVICA™ app

For what it is worth, I spoke with TWG last Thursday. I was told only the TWO jab vaccine card was needed for entry into RSA AND Doha, as long as you don't leave the airport in Doha as a passenger was considered "in transit" to RSA. But, that was last Thursday, so who knows? The next full moon (Flower Moon- TOTAL lunar eclipse) is May 16, so hold on to your shorts as vaccine/testing requirements may change! LOL

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
