Update COVID rules

After 2 yrs+ of no hunting and all the rules and restrictions and unknown's I would think on this forum it would only be proper to the members for a detailed and accurate description of the events that took place. IE: I/we were coming back from Namibia? We all want to get back to hunting wherever and this kind of posts turns everyone's world upside down.
In the future please be more descriptive in your posts. Thankyou.

@BRICKBURN stated: Sadly, when people are having a personal crisis they tend toward being rather short on details. They just scream help! OR @#$%^&*&^%$!! Not much detail, but it gets your attention.

I guess I have lived in a different world as the people I have worked with handle crisis much differently. No matter how you spin it, FWB had the time to post and gave vague and confusing information. I don't think that was his intent, but that is what happened. If anyone would have bothered to question any of my posts, I would have given a straight answer (and you won't hurt my feelings)

I don't see where anyone attacked anyone. Straight questions were asked. No coherent answers were given until Marius sorted it. Maybe AH needs a Human Resource Officer.

Safe travels

Latest update: We now advise you exercise a high degree of caution in Namibia. If you're fully vaccinated, you don't need a COVID-19 (PCR) test before you arrive, but you'll need to present a valid vaccination certificate on arrival in Namibia. If you don't follow COVID-19 regulations, you may be subject to legal process, including fines. Follow the advice of local authorities.

Only the relevant embassies, consulates, and national authorities can provide binding information on which vaccines are accepted for entering a country.

So far Namibians only had a cycle of 2 injections (1st + booster), so this is considered as "fully Vaccinated"

Arrived home in the night after a wonderful trip to Africa. Just a note on Covid Cards, and a summary. Four of us left the USA for a hunt in Namibia on Apr 21. We all had 4 Covid vaccines, two plus two boosters and the CDC authorized card. All websites we checked, including this one, said that was enough. But one day before departure, we decided to get PCR tests just to be sure. All were neg. We arrived in JNB on the 22 and stayed at Afton. Entry was fine. On the 23 we left for WDH and had two great weeks of hunting and photography in the Namibian desert. We returned from WDH to JNB on May 7. While approaching passport control we were all checked, and a booming voice told all of us "we don't want Covid in South Africa." We were sent back, entering line after line, waiting hours standing in hallways, never knowing what was next. Easy for the youngsters, but on elderly, with a long trip from the Namibian wilderness and a plane ride already that day, very fatiguing. Still, it is Africa. No explanations, of course, no one knowing what they are doing. But next was easy....we all paid 250 Rand before anything was done or explained. We were eventually told by a lady from the UK who sought answers, that we needed a Rapid Antigen Test. Of course, since we could not enter RSA, only the airport Medical was available. The staff left at 5 PM, and a new staff arrived promptly at 6:20. We were informed that they had no test kits but would order some. Not knowing where we would spend the night, what happened to our luggage or where our meet-and-greet would go, and having no phone connection in that lower level, we waited and stood and waited more. We eventually were escorted from the airport by a supervisor who took some pity on us. Still with no neg tests. The desk agents, baggage counters, and our ride had long gone. All the supervisor told us as we left: there have been some false CDC cards, and we will not accept them any longer. Of course, by then our PCR's were no longer current. We got our RAT tests printed out by Elize at Afton in the morning of the 8th. My thanks to Wisdom and Cristina for staying very late on the 7th and preparing some wonderful food.
My opinion and recommendations: If you're traveling to South Africa only, get a PCR. That should do it. If you leave for other countries, get a RAT before your flight back to JNB. And before you leave the USA, get a Covid Passport. About 30 States offer them. Find them by "Smart Card" or "AFAR" search on Google. My State does not offer them. Finally, if possible, avoid OR Tambo. And I know, usually not possible. We received 6 of our 8 checked bags that night, by searching, and the two lost ones the morning of our departure. Plan carefully. The airport at JNB is fluid, and changes cannot always be known ahead. They are not governed by rules, procedures, or professionalism. Be prepared. Had a good return flight. And all in all a wonderful trip. Hope this helps someone else. Travel safe.....................have fun...............FWB

The auluminum hats exist because no one is specific on details. Just so the first post did not mention from Nambia. Seem to imply entry to South Africa. Read the post.
this is correct. It is one of the problems here on AH and we’ve seen it manifest itself in this thread. People make a frantic post and leave out details that are critical to the event In question.
For me I leave May 31st for RSA. I have the best travel agent and I am not worried about the entry requirements right now. The week of departure I’ll review everything and speak to my agent and make a plan to navigate the BS.

Sorry for your troubles. JNB sucks! I am working to avoid it on future flights when possible,

Guys the bottom line here is that if your trip is a month or more away you are wasting your time worrying about entry regs. I think since we are all anticipating our great adventure we just hang on every word said about the current situations with travel. Everything is changing almost weekly as it relates to travel regs.
Since I advise so many hunters I always read every post about anything to do with travel. I am thankful to those who share their experiences both good and bad. What we all need, and this post proves it, is for the trip details to be complete.
regards,
Philip

Frantic posts, frantic reactions and mess can occur. That is the weakness of any forum.

Sharing information and positive inquiry is the strength.

You nailed it! And let’s add sharing COMPLETE information to that.

I don't see where anyone attacked anyone.

Examples of concern:
"Troll"
Inferences: "The account has been hacked!"

In the world of COVID TRAVEL we are all subject to the whims of policy change that we have no control over. It is EVERY hunters worst fear to spend money and time and plan a trip and get at minimum inconvenienced or worst detained, delayed or as some of our members have, to be sent packing home.
As @Philip Glass noted, weaknesses in posting are a contributor to issues and misunderstandings. The only way out is reasonable inquiry and determining the issues.
Now that AH operates on an APP, this makes for easier access but also lends to quick, short posts from people on smart phones moving rapidly through their experience.
It would be nice if everyone sat at their computer and offered up longer well thought out and posts with proper references and links. Sadly, many don't do enough research before they post.

I chose to post in the thread instead of just deleting....

I hope this will provide a great lesson.

I'd prefer if all members acted like quality journalists with their posts, but alas I day dream. It would make my job easier.

When someone does not post compete information; That's where the group strength comes in.
Marius was motivated to share some facts and then it all makes sense. Independent informed sources everyone can reference.

Safe travelling to everyone.

Communication and the use of a good travel agent is the key to managing successfully through unforeseen issues. I have used both Travel Express and Gracy many times. I highly recommend both of them and would not plan a hunt without using one of them.

I highly recommend a detailed conversation with your agent a day or so prior to departure. Things are fluid in the world of travel and they are your best bet to stay ahead of the changes.

Oh, and pay for VIP service on every arrival and departure in Africa. These folks are worth every penny you pay for them. We skated through the diplomatic line at Jo’Burg on one connection when other lines were backed up so badly we would never have made it. I thought I’d seen all the VIP lines but the diplomatic bypass was a new one to me!

I got my medical degree in that line.

You're right, the VIP service is worth it's weight in gold, especially if in Tambo during a holiday period.

Just got word from Gracy that all vaccine cards and tests must have QR codes are you will be tested upon arrival at airport.
Just passing that info along.

Is that for people from the US or are we talking about only people from Namibia like what was said earlier in the thread? For US residents, a QR code isn't going to happen on any vaccine card but there are options like Clear's digital vaccine passport. But not sure if that will work or not because when I scan the code all it does is pulls up a picture of me and a green background, doesn't say anything about my vaccine status. I suspect that will not work. A lot of states passed covid passport laws banning a covid passport so the options for having something that South Africa would accept are slim to none.

I am planning on taking my shot record printout that shows the Seal of the State of Utah on it and some other info and I'm hoping that would work. That's quite a bit more official looking than the hand written vaccine card that anyone can write anything on. Doesn't change the fact that using pdf editor I could still fake it just as easily. A lot of states will have some type of online database that you can tap into to print your vaccine and shot records from.

My understanding is everyone arriving from US will need QR codes.

I agree with Mike B, none of my paper vaccine records have a QR code.

However if I go into a State of Colorado digital record it shows a picture of me along with the statement that I am fully vaccinated and what appears to be a messed up QR code.

What we need from Gracy travel is a link to where they were notified about it from South Africa
