Tag and Cabelas safari jackets

Don't let the safari fashion police suck you in. The old Wesley Richards style jackets are out of date (but I still look darn good in mine!). Realistically, look at the modern safari or outdoor hunting clothing for your expected weather range. On my own African hunts, PHs wore Kuiu, Under Amour, Swazi, or some other brand where they had their logos embroided. Although I keep my Wesley Richards at home, I still wear a safari hat because of the brim. You'll burn quickly.

They have great shirts as well.

Love the look of that jacket. Is that the pewter color?

I loved Willis & Geiger clothes. First recommended to me by Alex Kerr owner of famous Kerr’s Sporting Goods

I have been considering the trooper jacket. Is there any unnecessary noise or clanging from all the snaps?

Had good luck with an after season sale at Walmart, all camo, dollar T shirts, five dollar camo pants and ten dollar long sleeve bug resistant shirts. Then, I just leave everything there. They'll fit someone in the camp. In later years, I've seen photos on their websites and the PHs are wearing my old clothes. Having said that, if one plans on impressing their friends, get the high $ stuff and don't forget the Rolex.

I see benefit to wearing comfortable darker khaki, browns, and green colored cotton cargo pants, and long sleeve neutral color shirts, and a wide brim hat etc. However, trying to mimic very early 1900s style hunting clothes to go on a hunt feels odd to me. I have nothing against anyone who does it. If it makes you happy, I think you should do it.

For me, personally, getting all dressed up in less comfortable 1930's era specific clothing and pith helmet/hats to go on a hunt doesn't appeal to me. Some people like it because it makes them feel like Ernest Hemingway, and I am happy for them, and happy it brings them happiness.

I feel like some people going to Africa not knowing what it is like, think this might be the norm for hunters and want to do it so they fit in to some degree, but it really isn't the norm there either. So just wear reasonable neutral colored clothes, or if it brings you happiness, go all out in hemingway inspired attire. As long as you are having a good time and being safe and polite, that's what really matters.

I have a cheap one from Midway USA (and yes you get what you pay for). With saying that it has been used exclusively for a dinner/smoking jacket or house coat and serves the purpose well.

Not to take away from the OP, but here is a few of the finer things in life that will not disappoint.

Agree with many here- you don’t need to look like a silly, narcissistic ad for some overpriced, bespoke safari apparel store. ;)

Drab, solid colors, breathable cotton shirt, cotton cargo pants. Early or late day can be very cold so take something like a medium weight insulated Carhartt jacket just in case. Avoid clothing fabrics types that pick up stickers and debris. Avoid most of the trendy, modern and expensive high tech synthetics. Comfortable, broken in leather boots with thin leather gaiters for walking in hot conditions. Gaiters for keeping junk out of your socks. If you do much walking in dry grass you will thank me for that tip! Hat of choice. I take thin leather nomex flight gloves- find at surplus outlets. Hat of choice. Take some sun screen. Most camps have daily laundry so no need to overpack, KISS works

I use safaris as an opportunity to give a nod to tradition, in line with the classic rifles I carry.

Bottom line: dress as you like, have the image you want to project and, most of all, have fun and be comfortable.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
