SOUTH AFRICA: Hippopotamus Hunt With Pawprint Safaris 2017

Hippo lips grilled on hot fire is also an excellent as a starter.

Pieter new chef from zim. may have some ideas. Pieter has told me he specialize in wild game so sure he has made hippo before.

I don't have hippo high on my list of animals to eat but if it taste like bacon how bad can it be.

So I guess it's like a very big angry pig? Now when there is such a succulent, sumptuous and satisfying meat like bacon how can vegetarians not want some?

Folks.......for those of you who have hunted hippo was there any particular portion of meat that was suggested that you eat? If there was how did it taste?
I ate some hippo steaks sliced thin and fried. Not very good honestly but if on safari and being a sport it will do. Of course anything sliced thin and fried can be good!
Regards,
Philip

Well it s 27 days until I leave for South Africa and Pieter has emailed me a video scouting report taken from the river where we will be hunting. Now once I figure out how to do a screen grab from the video I will puts a picture of a nice bull that's just waiting for me to come get him!

Just like on the elephant hunt Pieter Erasmus likes to tease you with some great pictures in advance of the hunt!

Look forward to your report.

Best of luck. Really looking forward to hearing how this goes!

It's six days to departure folks. So last night I unpacked everything and the re packed all the stuff. S whoever it was that guessed one time wins. Rifle is in the case and ammo packed in the checked pelican case. All I have to do is put the CPAP machine in the carrion bag and I'm ready to go.

Pieter has let me know the the cat critters are still on the menu in the Northwest Provence so hope to see some at night around the bait piles.
Seriously I have always wanted a caracal but will gladly take a honey badger, serval, civet or even one or two of @billc bush pigs.
We are going to find out what this Ruger #1 in 375 H&H can do under different conditions and several kinds of game.
Anybody on Delta flight 200 next Tuesday night the 6th let me know.

Good luck Sir, shoot straight and enjoy

CAustin I am so jealous of you already heading there! Have a great time!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
