SOUTH AFRICA: Hippopotamus Hunt With Pawprint Safaris 2017

CAustin I can't wait to hear how that 375 does on those night critters just to find out if I need to get some special light loads made.

I guess you're getting things packed and re packed now? I'm getting excited and it's still 6 months out for me! :(

@Ridgewalker Pieter says to use solids on the night critters and it will go right through them with little damage to the hide yet do great damage to internal organs.

I need to know what happened with Mr Capwell and the giraffe!
Something like this;)

I've got some Hornady 300gr DGS. That just seems like a lot for a genet. They shoot OK when I do my part.

I understand the thought! Do your part and let the bullet punch the hole!

Thanks Now some anti bunny hugger will think I shot the last sabre tooth giraffe and I will get hate mail. When I saw this pic the first time I laughed so hard. Seeing it again still makes me laugh as it was a funny joke. Some how he was shipped with out the teeth though so no extra permits were needed for my rare sabre tooth giraffe

Went to the range again today and sent a box of Federal Premium 375 H&H Magnum 300 grainers flying down range. I did a good bit of fine tuning as I was initially shooting about three inches high. Several of my targets had shot holes cutting another one's corner. Two of these three are almost touching. Windage was good all day so the elevation was the only real adjustment. The final three are shown below.
I think these spell dead hippo!
What do you think @Pawprint Safaris ??? Are you ready to go hunting?

Nice group, give me a call next time you plan a trip to the range.

Oh yes! You do your part and the skinners are going to earn their pay for sure!

That'll do Charlie !

What distance Charlie?? If that's off sticks good shooting pal

very nice Charlie. That will get it done on the big bull hippo and if you keep doing that Pieter may let you take the man eating giraffe I hunt one day.;)

100 yard range @norfolk shooter .

@billc I have done my part to control the giraffe population in Africa.....paid for two so far! Now those man eaters.......I haven't seen them....but you ran from one so they must be out there somewhere!
Everyone take a backup gunner into the bush with you just in case you stumble on bill's man eating giraffe.

Nice shooting Charlie, now all you need is a cooperative Hippo. I hope to get to KC sometime next month, maybe we can squeeze in a little range time.

That will do Charlie. I'll be hearing back to the range also in a couple of weeks. Just got another shipment of ammo from a Superior.

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
